At this stage, it looks like Grapple and Disney Label Prime were separated at birth. :-)

And Kelvin - how many Masterpiece Primes do you have?

Yeah do you like, steal them from children at Christmas time or something? :p

Fair comment.. hehe.. he will have 2 heads. Working on it at the moment. But 1 is like this with the ears. The other will be more like the sunbow cartoon version.

Alright... so regarding these masterpieces, 2 was scored at the Paramatta fair and Target faulty department. As said in previous thread, $25 at Parramatta fair and $50 for the MP-04.

The other one, well, yes, that one is from my old Hasbro 20th Century which was around $70. Since I got the MP-04 version, these were extras.

Anyway, would appreciate contructive feedback if any... :) MP Prime is great to use for MP range and its the most abundant in the market. I wouldnt use an MP-05 or others...

Wow - that was some quick and impressive work with Ratchet. Does he transform? I guess he'd look kind of like the G1 Ratchet toy in vehicle mode without his repair bay.

kelvinchang99
29th March 2009, 10:43 AM
Sky Shadow,

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Ratchet is still early stages. They are going to transform.

Ratchet, 1/2 is using the original transformation. I am thinking of scratch building the repair bay. I think I can do this relatively well but then the question is that should it be only a piece that will snap on in transformed mode or should it be fold back pieces to the leg and back in true transformation style. The latter will probably take 10 times the amount of time but will not compromise. The first solution will probably look the best without too many joint lines.

Grapple will be the same as the G1 transformation once I get the front of the truck on. The crane will attach to the Leg position.

I will try to transform them tonight to give you guys an idea.

Ratchet is coming along very nicely. Are you going to do anymore paint apps on him? as he looks a bit bland to me at the moment and i do like the crosses on his shoulders simple but effective, and i cant wait to see further advancements of Grapple.

kelvinchang99

Hi Loophole..

Thanks for the comments. Yes, that was paint job coat 1 done. There will be other colours added for detailing. I just like to do a first app to see what the outcome will be like.

Well, you asked about Grapple, you're in luck. I found a couple of hours today to do some kitbashing.

Here are some WIP of Grapple. Although he looks more like inferno at the moment. Imagine the orange colour going on. I am working on the doors at the moment.

HOLY CRAP!! Ratchet looks incredable! where did you get his head from?
Seeing Ratchet and Ironhide makes me want to give them a go.

Keep up the awsome work ill be watching this thread :D

kelvinchang99
30th March 2009, 06:37 PM
Thanks rampagesss... Glad you like this. The head I worked with a customiser and got the head molded from a guy called Griffith76 for Ironhide and then did my own customisation to make it Ratchet.

He did a great job on it. I will aim to provide update. I will probably make some progress on Galvy soon.

Here are the early attempts of the Alt mode. Doesnt look like much but gives you guys an idea.

http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg67/kelvinchang99/DSC08028.jpg
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg67/kelvinchang99/DSC08031.jpg

http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg67/kelvinchang99/DSC08027.jpg

There are still alot to do:

Grapple:
Install new wheels for a larger truck and reposition
Install and secure the crane
Install doors and hinges to open in transformed mode
NOTE: The transformed mode sees this truck with Prime legs extended so its longer and depicts a nice crane feel to it.

Ratchet:

This is a lot more work.
- Install casing for the back and cutting to slip on the cab
- Install windows
- Build new panels on side and top of vehicle to replect a van
- May need to install new wheels

I think that should be all that needs to be done.

Here is an update on Ratchet. I changed the back and added a new electrical light. The lights have 4 sounds.

http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg67/kelvinchang99/DSC08060.jpg

I am cutting the pieces to go into position now. Only the lights are visible. The battery unit and the buttons to activate the sound are hidden. This will be in my next update.

That SO is tupperware....
very resourceful Kelvin.
Its certainly faster than scratchbuilding using styrene sheets....

kelvinchang99
7th April 2009, 06:19 PM
Ah hehehe... you guys got me... Found this tupperware and thought I would give it a go. Since I needed the rounded edging. But never fear, I am about to cut it all apart as I am torn from doing just a cap or making it transformable. Also the cab front I am not happy with so will go back to the drawing board. Though it looks good in bot mode, its making the alt mode cumbersome. The light will stay though.. hehe.

This is what I am gunning for now.

Hi guys,

Quick update. Decided to get rid of the tupper and go for a scratch to give it justice.

Here is an update. The progress of course has slowed down due to individual pieces needing to be pieced together. Its turning out better than I expected with the level of details. Dont worry about the bottom of the frontage, a bumper still needs to go on that.

The door, and back hatch to access the lights and mirrors are all articulated to bend and swing out.

That front looks so much better, not as bulky.
I cant wait to see the final product.

bruticus
12th April 2009, 01:12 AM
Great improvement on the front.

hmmm...
This may be really hard to find and definitely not in the right scale either but if you got ur hands on something similar to this:
http://www.spencer1984.com/my_models/ratchet.php
you will be laughing.....(all the way to the bank)

perhaps you can find some scale model vans or model kits similar in style....
It doesnt have to be exactly a Nissan Onebox Cherry Vanette.

kelvinchang99
15th April 2009, 11:45 PM
Hey Bruticus,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tell you what, no copyright issues on that van??? Hell, I am surprised. Its a replica.

Although I see this is 1/24 scale. The MP I am using is 1/16 scale I think,

So, I think that one in the link is used for alternators.

Anyway, that is a great suggestion.

Thanks.

Thanks 1Azrael1 for the comments.

I have an update today and also gave my magnus a make over. For those that followed my other thread before Christmas, I have gone back to the drawing board regarding the legs. So, I decided to paint this up and have this for display. I think it still works well.

Galvatron, I did a paint test tonight.

Also that arm cannon looks like a nice casting. Is it a custom or cast from something?

It's amazing how a slap of paint can make a character feel more...right.

Was not sure on the unpainted version, but purple Galvatron is looking very nice.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments.

Iceburn, the missiles are from G1, not the CC kit. but yes, they are the same :)

Gamblor, thanks. The casting was done by a guy I know from Singapore. I got him to do a prototype and turned out well. So we ended up getting several casted for the head and cannon.

I_amtrunks - thanks. Oh man, I give an update on UM, Galvy and you want an update on Ratchet... hehehehe... That one is coming ;) I have the van almost built. The body is done, just need to sand it down and paint. Do you reckon a white or black bumper??

i_amtrunks
20th April 2009, 10:51 AM
Hey thats what you get for having him in the background, where I can plainly see him being upgraded! :p

I'm a fan of the Marvel comics, which would mean a white/off-white bumper but you're the maestro, and you may need a black bumper to mix his colour scheme up a little.

Hi guys,

Sorry, havent had much update on these. Have been lazy when I ran out of styrene and didnt get any.... Well, I found some extra tonight and started working on Galvy again. I have some more styrene on order so will get these 3 projects a push and a nudge.

Here is tonights update, with an update on the kingly chest that have been reduced dramatically. The sides and below have been incorporated. Have the back and the waist still to do and need to cover up gaps.

But is a work in progress.
