The first volume of the Transformers Animated comic has been released. It adapts the first extra-long episode (or first three depending how you look at it).

It's a small book, shown here in comparison to a recent IDW comic. But it kind of needs to be. The smaller screen captures look nice and sharp but when they are blown up to about half the page size there's a noticeable blurriness that starts to appear.

Some of the talky sequences work really well in this format, but when there's a lot of action going on the narration goes into overdrive to fill in the gaps between the panels as the freeze frames are poor at conveying motion.

It's very accurate to the show. The only thing I noticed missing is the reference to the Autobot's ship not being able to activate it's defense mode because of an energon shortage... but there may be more omissions.

For $12 it's cheaper than three comics would be. I like the animated style and it's nice to flick through. All the primary colours really jump off the glossy pages.

I liked this and will buy the next one when it comes out.

And if you haven't freeze framed the transformation sequences here's Bumblebee's blur.
