everyone remember soundwaves minions [cassettes not guitars] and blasters little soldiers? we need a modern analogue.
perhaps a USB thumb drive or something that can be a standard shape [or series of shapes] and can transform into animals [with the appropriate clip on weapons]. These tf's were/are cool cassettes as an alt mode just dont cut it any more
suggestions? [no musical instruments please]
what would you design as an animal mode?

I would have thought portable media players like iPods or Zens for the minions and larger 'mother' media players like docking stations and mini PCs or jukeboxes for Soundwave and Blaster that the players could dock with.
Device Label is a good concept tho.

The "true" modern equivilant of the tape would be a micro SD card, but yea, way too small. Even a standard SD card would be too small too. On the other hand, a CD/DVD would also fit the bill, (and is probably the most true equivilant to the tape), but yea, too flat.
Damn modernisation. :)
Unless they were made out of scale sized.

I will always remember them as cassettes. Nothing else will come close.

The true modern equivalent would be MP3s! They could exist as pure digital entities with no tangible physical form - like in the Matrix! :D

I've had discussions like this in the past, and the most obvious choice is that Soundwave would be an iPod or MP3 player device, and as MV75 says, the minions would be SD, or some flash-based, storage. But the problem with this paradigm is that a cornerstone of the cassette deck was it's ability to record, something [most] iPods and MP3 players can't really do.

Like the MP3 Soundwave, you could make Lazorbeak into a microphone attachment, and ravage into the SD card.

what i was thinking of was a shape size reminiscent of the cassettes, except maybe slightly thicker. and more complex transformations. and maybe gestalts like squawkbox and slamdance. with tiny flash memory these days [micro sd] they could be actual storage devices [that would push the price up tho] [ala device label[
what did you want to see a cassette turn into but never saw it?

That's because you're Apple locked. My sansa records just fine. :p You'll find that it's a standard feature on anything outside of the white supremacy.

They did a pretty good job on the new universe ravage, and it's the same size as the original tape.

does anyone remember the exact dimensions of the G1 cassettes or the new ravage cassette?

Approximately 33.5 x 50.2 x 8.15 mm. Give or take a fraction of a millimetre. Why?

G1 Ravage's weapons can also fit inside the holes of Henkei/Universe Ravage. :) Although if you look closely Henkei/Universe Ravage already has weapons sculpted on, although they're unpainted so from a distance Henkei/Universe Ravage looks cool w/ G1 Ravage weapons on him. That's how I display mine. ;)

The ones in this photo were from my original 1984 Ravage so they're chrome worn, but I've since replaced these with shiny new ones from my Encore Ravage which fit even better! :)
