Doubt they will rename it, there is a movie coming out called G-Force, with completely nothing to do with the cartoon.
They might add the dog though :p

$10 says he puts Rose McGowan in Predators, maybe as a predator, with BOOBS!. I'm not optimistic it'll be any good.

I so want to talk to someone about Terminator Salvation! Hurry up and come out in Australia so I can! There are moments in it where you could be mistaken for thinking you were watching Revenge of the Fallen. Maybe they are in the trailer? I'm not sure. Best advice though: don't watch the trailers before you see the film.

Yes, and there is a scene where a bunch of soldiers are struggling to restrain basically a robot tail that is very much like the scene in Transformers with Scorponok's tail.

Anyway, I won a double pass to a free preview screening at Knox on Monday night (Aug 10) at 7pm, so if someone wants to come see it with me, let me know.

Edit: It's being shown before the US release of the movie which is cool, but it means no cameras/recording allowed, so maybe leave your phone at home.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on it hoping it's good. The short trailers I saw made it look good but the longer preview had me thinking it might be too politically orientated - segregation and media bias...

I think it's worth seeing. I really enjoyed it and have been thinking about scenes from it a lot. (One scene in particular really got to me)

There's a lot of politically orientated content (not so much media bias) but that's kind of the point. These are illegal aliens who happen to actually be aliens.

The special effects aren't perfect, but this isn't a huge budget movie and they work well enough to tell the story.

It's perhaps a little uneven, each third of the movie seems very different from the rest, but all up it tells a very compelling tale, and is the best original sci-fi film I've seen in a long time.

I would like to see both avatar movies I believe they will both be good. Also the main actor in the 3d version will be the same person who did the terminator in salvation who is an Australian actor.

I must admit I can not wait till they release the new He-Man and the new Voltron movies. Though it is sad to hear that the halo movie will not be based on the story lines of the games how ever it will be based on the "Red Vs Blue" series instead.

The Halo movie got scrapped and turned into District 9, hence why there were all those nutty game guns in Distirct 9.

The Australian Actor in Avatar and the somewhat forgettable Terminator Salvation was Sam Worthington. I wish they had cast him as Duke as was rumoured for a short time for GI Joe, Channing Tatum was a bit to much of a pretty boy for Duke.

Scrapper
20th November 2009, 09:52 PM
I too agree there. Sam response from what I can remember on the 7pm show thing when he was told he would be doing avatar was "yeah I can do it...but I need to change the brakes on my car and help move a mates fridge" James Cameron thought that was hillarious apparently.

I thought the movie was just the right length given Hollywood's tendency toward bloating pics this year. ROTF and 2012 come to mind.

But yeah 2 thumbs up here too, it was in the spirit of the book, and free of shmaltz. Like Watchman It met my excpectations without losing the soul of the source material. Spike Jonze is clearly another one of these directors who does everything his way, but doesn't pander to the Hollywood money making machine so much.

Although I wouldn't say it is a kids movie per-se, but rather a movie about being a kid.

Ghostbuster 3 Spoiler ahead

Sigourney Weaver spilt the beans on this little tid bit in December:

In the December interview, Weaver said: "I know that my little son, Oscar – who was kidnapped from me – I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster," adding, "I might be in it and I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don't think I will have a big part in it. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he might be a ghost."

And now Bill Murray has confirmed said rumour with this:

And in the new interview, Murray says: "I'll come back in Ghostbusters III only if I get to be a ghost. I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film."

I heard Murray using that line back in the late 1990s! So, unless they've decided to turn his joke in to a real concept, I doubt it's true... but you never know I guess!

I think Ms Weaver is just confused, or she's doing a "Bay" (ie, spreading false information).

I don't usually feel this way, but I thought Johnny Depp was grossy mis-cast! He just didn't suit the role at all (I normally enjoy his performances)... he just wasn't, well, "Mad" enough to be the Mad Hatter. Someone like Jim Carrey would have been 1000 times better IMO.

I want to see Clash Of the Titans too, though I fear that they may try to make it into your bog standard good vs evil story. With Hades as your straight bad guy, and Zeus as somewhat benevolant rather than the shades of grey they should be.

Really? I rather thought it tiptoed around such issue for the most part, and just delivered straight forward mythological heroics with very little dialog. not that I'm complaining. I rather enjoyed it too, as like Gi Joe last year it just provided pulp adventure action. And having a movie based on ancient mythology is a good excuse for larger than life action and characters.

Saw Clash of the Titans yesterday and I must say that I was quite satisfied with the remake.

To anyone thinking of going to see it, I would suggest skipping the 3D version and going straight for the 2D version.

A lot of the bad reviews are due to the 3D version of the film as it was 'converted' in post-production (unlike Avatar) and it's actually worse off for it. Just Google 'Clash of the Titans 3D' and you'll see what I am talking about.

We made a point of seeing it in good old 2D which seemed fine, I can only imagine how gaudy the 3D would look.

Though I forgot about it till now, I kinda wish Bubo the owl had been used more. Sure Bubo was seen briefly, and I was kinda hoping that Perserus or someone had smuggled the Owl to show up latter in the film, but no.

Power of the Dark Crystal (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=15012), sequel (obviously) But I can't see how they can do another, so long after the first. The Dark Crystal sequel has been spoken of about for years now, but I've yet to see any evidence that its not in production hell. If they do ever get up and running use proper Henson talent the result should be good, like Where the Wild things are a good mix of pupetry and CGI to create a unique magical look that pure CGI can't quite replicate.

Interestingly I just saw the Dark Crystal last weekend at the Maritime Museum's classic mythic 80's film screenings. It was only a projected DVD, but it was good to see the Dark Crystal on a big screen, it still holds up pretty well I think.

Went to see A Nightmare On Elm Street on Saturday - really impressed with what they have come up with.

Been hearing a lot of negative reviews about it, but if you go in with no expectations or with thoughts of comparing 'old' Freddy to 'new' Freddy, you'll get the most enjoyment out of it.

The acting was first-class and Jackie Earle Haley plays a great version of Freddy - think Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

Rating - B+

There are a few around, but you're right, they're few and far between. A lot of the negative reviews are from people comparing the two films (the original and this one) when that's like comparing apples to oranges. They're both round, but that's where the comparison ends :p

In the comics they didnt even give him an elaborate looking costume, it wouldnt make sense.

Not a new movie but Fox are finally releasing a Blu-ray box set of the Alien films, like the awesome quadrilogy set before it the blu set will have 2 versions of each film and some new features such as Weavers original screen test for Alien, and new deleted scenes.

I've been waiting for this since the inception of HighDef home video. (http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/20th_Century_Fox/Disc_Announcements/Alien_Anthology_Officially_Announced_and_Detailed_ for_Blu-ray/5070)

Brilliant. I haven't read the book, but my dad saw it with me and said it was really close to the book (well, the first and part of the second anyway) but it was a top movie.

Edit: I read up on it, and it is the events of the first book only. So if they continue in this fashion, there will be 7 movies. Doable though if it makes enough money. And I hope it does. I would love to see the others done.

Thank jeebus (or whatever diety you prefer).

The tomorrow series are very well written (glad you read up so quickly!) all they had to do was more or less copy the book exactly and they would have half a dozen brilliant films, and a meh sixth book/movie that would be one very long truck chase...

Hopefully it makes a motza, we need an Aussie film to make lots of money that isn't too depressing or weird for mainstream audiences across the globe.

I read up about it on Wikipedia. My brother has the entire series, so I will have to borrow them and read them.

I await to hear the reaction of those who read the book to how well the movie was adapted. I will read the books when I get them. From the reception of the movie afterwards, I think it was pretty faithful to the book. And I thought I recognised a bit of the scenery, parts of it were filmed up in the Blue Mountains :p

Reminds me of Judge Dredd. It looks like it has a Mega City, it has Lawmaster-like motor cycles, it has a cursed earth with mutants, and it has an exiled main character whom fits the profile of Dredd in at least one of his stories when he goes into self-exile (comics wise).

Hey, I thought this got canned. :( Having read the graphic novels, and enjoyed them thoroughly, this actually looks TERRIBLE. As in TERRIBLY UNRELATED. AARRGH

I mean, it's not very faithful to the source material at all. I'd go into detail, but the list of things that are kept the same is two items long.

Seriously, I'm not sure how they translated a weird western with zombies and mutated fallen angels into cyberpunk with vampire hunters. Maybe it was just too much effort for the screenwriters? That is, too much effort to actually, I don't know, READ the BOOKS?

Yeah, scheduled release 2012 according to IMDB. It looks like it has Casandra Anderson from Psi Division as a main character instead of Hershey this time.

I too also didn't mind the film adaption of Judge Dredd as it could have been much worse.

Ultimately I think there is a plethora of other stories from 2000 AD besides Judge Dredd that could be made into films, such as Button Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499444/) which is also written by John Wagner and was illustrated by my favorite comic book artist Arthur Ranson.
