Hey guys,

Do any of you use spray paints and/or air brush kits indoors?

I usually come home late from work and im really busy on the weekends during the day so that just leaves me only with late nights when im free, but im afraid to use spray paints inside the house (due to the fumes) or invest in an air compressor that will just annoy the heck our of my neighbours at those hours....

I dont have a spacious shed, so i was thinking that my best option so far would be to spray paint in my laundry where there is adequate lighting and an exhaust fan, then wait for it to dry and hand paint it elsewhere.....

What does everybody else do?

I have a separate garage so I open up all the doors and spray in there.
You have to be careful venting fumes with an ordinary exposed fan motor, the stuff is flammable. You can buy mini spray booths at some hobby stores.
As for compressors small hobby size ones are fairly quiet.

Fark, i never thought about the the potential for fumes to ignite upon contact with the exhaust motor....
hmmm... It may be remote, but i wont take that chance now...

Whats a mini spray booth?

I saw one of these (http://www.hobbytools.com.au/prod789.htm) at Hobbyco last time I was there. I think it would be fairly easy to build one if you could source the parts.

Thanks for the link gamblor...
It looks pretty handy and just what i need, but its a bit pricey though...
hmmm... I'll have to look into it more and see ifs its worthwhile getting for the amount of TFs im looking to paint...

um.... living room cause that where the tv is and i would have to say that the windows would be open and probally have the ceiling fan running too, but if its warm outside i will just walk outside and start spraying

I know you want to spray your customs but you could always use Games Workshop paints which are water based...

Thanks for the link. It looks like a nice DIY project but i suspect that sourcing a range hood, piping and other materials may push the cost pretty close to the mini spray booth if not more with todays prices....

I love the guys disclaimer at the bottom...
"...If by following the above recommendations as seen on this web page and you ... 5. injure yourself during the construction of the booth (i.e. hit your thumb with a hammer) or 6. get into a fight with your better half or 7. any accident related to looking at, the existence of, thinking about or dreaming about the spray booth I will not be held responsible or be liable for any damages occurred..."
hahaha.. hilarious...

Yes, i currently do use water based acrylic paints from games workshop and Tamiya etc to do all the details...
However, at the moment I'm just spray painting entire base coats and some large areas (whenever i can use masking tape properly that is :p)
The finish you can achieve is sooo smooth and consistent..... :D

Rainy days lately is making it impossible for me to do any spray painting outdoors so I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a Sparmax mini spray booth.

Hey rampagesss, do you use the stock standard exhaust hose or did you buy a longer one?
Do you know where i can find a similar exhaust hose for the unit? cos i tried bunnings and they didnt have anything that would work (wrong sizes, non compatible reducers/enlargers). Fark, im stunned that they didn't have what i needed...
