View Full Version : What is the most you have spent on a TF ?

Omega Supreme
16th May 2009, 09:12 AM
Hi guys, just wondering what the most you have spent on a Transformer ? And also what it was.

For me it was my second Brave Maximus which set me back $400.

Now in saying this I remember before owning a Brave Maximus, there was one in our local comic shop owned by a friend of mine, I had offered him up to $1000 - Way over value I know, but before getting my own $1000 seemed like a reasonable price for the toy I wanted most. Luckly for me my friend turned me down and I managed to score both last year for well under the $1000 I originally allocated.

Brave Max - $700... well plus post and handling, can remember how much. But Any Max is worth much..... For small items I think $250 for G1 swoop. Thank goodness it was original, as I bought him during the time pre KO days. Swoop costed me much more than my G1 Scorponok who is just $200.

Ive yet to splurge on a G1 bumper (bumblejumper) which I usually see costs AU$100+ plus P & H which could go up to a total of $130-150..... now that would be really pricy!

Off the top of my head, I think it may have been the Predaking reissue, which I bought at the time as a HLJ preorder. I'm guessing it probably cost me between $250 and $300.

G1 metroplex. About $150 I think shipped for the nice complete totally minty best city former ever. :) This was a few years ago now.

Locally, probably the $100 I spent on Cybertron primus. Yea, we can all reminisce about that pricing for supremes when the next wave of movie toys comes out to rape our savings accounts.

About $250 for Masterpiece MP-4 Convoy when it first came out.

There are other transforming toys I collect which cost alot more too tho - so I tend to be very selective.

Brave Max seems to be a common one for people's biggest purchases.

Some of mine, to set the bar until someone posts something even more rediculous. :p

A boxed Fort Max was my most expensive, coming to about AU$1300-1400 with shipping.
Second is a Lucky Draw figure that cost me AU$1100.
Third would probably be Metalhawk, bought when the currency bottomed out at about US50cents, so ended up costing me AU$700. Either that, or my Raiden Boxed set which I think converted to about the same amount, but at a much higher exchange rate (which would make it the higher priced toy in US$ - Metalhawk was US$350, Raiden was US$500).

Okay, so who has Grand Max, and how much did it cost? :D

(yes, I'm a sad sad individual who throws wads of money away for lumps of mere plastic...)

Games of Deception is also my biggest purchase, but that's 5 toys. When I buy box sets or bundles, I distribute the cost of the bundle to the included toys based on the ratio of their size class prices (not their perceived value). So, my top 10 are:

1. $269 Botcon Dreadwind
2. $183 MP Grimlock
3. $179 MP 4 Convoy
4. $161 Botcon Dirge, Thrust, Thundercracker and Bug Bite (each)
8. $147 Crystal Convoy
9. $133 Henkei Wildrider
10.$132 Botcon Alpha Trion

Don't worry SD, it's their importance to you that makes them valuable, even if the $ spent doesn't match it.

My most expensive TF seems to be a common one on this thread with my Brave Max at around $500. The first time I actually saw and touched a Maxi was when I got him!

Coming in next are my MP4 Convoy, Encore G1 Omega Supreme and TFCC Seacons all around the $180 mark (i think??).

My most expensive was E-Hobby Anime Galvatron, but only by accident. By itself it was only $100, but i accidentally transferred the money from the wrong account - doing so cost me $200+ interest at the end of the month!

Other than that, MP Grimlock at around $230.

The amount of cash some of you spend on TFs is admirable, I also envy you at the same time. :) Having been a student for so long means it's a bit tough to justify spending over a hundred bucks on a figure. The most expensive one I ever bought was a reissue God Ginrai from HLJ back in 2003 - can't remember how much it cost now, possibly between $60-$80. Still love it to bits. Will be nice to get a full time job later this year once I'm qualified and hunt down some of the G1, Cybertron and Energon figures that look cool.

I find it amazing that the size of a Transformer does not dictate price. :D

My most spent was on two 'Universe' Swerves for about $80 a piece. Also, probably Alternator Mirage when he first showed up at retail in the US... about $85 on that sucker. Much frustration when I opened him up and found a bad paint defect... Could only get $20 for him a year later. :( Man I miss that figure.:o

Don't say that, it isn't "not much", even with a job now and extra cash, I still consider that amount a pretty big spend. :)

So yea, it is all reletive to size/age of the toy as well, so you are in the "big spenders" club with the rest of us by that definition. :)

I remember paying $600 for a set of Dinobots!! I was very young at the time but they were in very good condition so I am happy. After the bidding had ended I realise I just spent a crap load of money and thought to myself what I was doing?

Hmm... I don't collect G1 so my purchases are nowhere near as expensive as those that do.... I probably spent $450 in one day on a couple of Universe Classic figures but that's about the limit for me.

I think HD or someone who collects MISB G1 would easily double the total of that (multiple figure) purchase with a single Fort Max :p

bought in 2004
$1350

C328 - Victory Saber giftset (was MISB but opened by me)

Hmm, Not the most expensive I have bought by a long shot, but is the one that I think is least worth what I paid for.

Energon Fattimus Prime. $100 full retail.

For what? A vayoger sized fat ugly truck and a box. I thought his trailer at least would make a nice base mode. Nope.

It's sad that the original Lion Voltron toy is a better (same style) combiner than this guy, and Voltron was about 15 years earlier.

I dont know if there is a thread like this before but just wanted to know some crazy prices you've paid for Transformers The reason is because I know when I want something and especially from eBay I find myself not wanting to lose and pay high prices for Transformers.

I remember paying $600 for a set of Dinobots!! I was very young at the time but they were in very good condition so I am happy. After the bidding had ended I realise I just spent a crap load of money and thought to myself what I was doing?

Do you find it hard not to go over budget?? My heart beats a million miles when it gets close to the last minute!!

Whats your crazy story???

I used to like that last minute rush. the feeling of pipping someone at the post.
but that's bad for the bank account (i found), now i just chuck the number in.
if someone beats me, they wanted it more than i did. if not, i get it at a price i'm happy with. (and i'm not always worried about if i'm near a computer at that critical moment) i'm happy with what i've got for now so that probably helps.

All the prices peeps have mentioned here seem pretty-very reasonable:)

For me, the figure that owes me the most is my G1 Scorponok at close to $500 due to 'piece-mealing' - The highest amount I've laid out for a figure/s is MP-04 Optimus Prime at $250. :o

Those two do make one awesome Prime. And come to think of it now, the leg/arm transformation could have inspired City Commander..

It's a lot better than City Commander though. For one thing you don't have half the trailer forming an impractical BFG that the toy can't even hold properly. I prefer God Fire Convoy over Omega Prime though -- nicer colours (God Magnus has the darker grey instead of RiD Magnus' Hasbro Grey) and most importantly, superior quality rubber on the tyres that don't split. Although Hasbro's RiD Optimus Prime has more scratch-resistant chrome.

Interesting how Hasbro was able to produce the version with the better Chrome. I should dig mine out of storage to see if the rubber has split :/

My biggest gripe on these awesome overkill Primes is the serious lack of a nemesis. RiD Galvatron's 7th flying dragon mode can hardly take on Omega Prime/God Fire Convoy's 3kg of crushing plastic.

GoktimusPrime
27th June 2012, 10:09 PM
The tyres on RiD toys is awful. Let me put it this way, I got Super Fire Convoy in 2000 - even now the tyres have never split. I got RiD Optimus Prime in 2002, after a few months, the tyres split. Same thing happened w/ my X-Brawn. So my Takara Fire Convoy, which is 2 years older than my RiD OP, still has better condition rubber tyres. The splitting tyres is a widely reported problem on RiD toys, but I've yet to hear reports of a single Car Robot toy that has split tyres. It seems that in this case, Takara definitely used better quality rubber on their tyres than Hasbro.

Oh, and IMO the voices sound better on God Fire Convoy... a lot louder for one thing, and it actually sounds like the voices from the Car Robot anime... whereas RiD Optimus Prime's voice sounds nothing like Neil Kaplan -- it's just some generic 'action hero' voice. (-_-)

I'm mainly going off the Fort Max prices really.. I thought 2500 was a horrendous price to pay for one, but after looking around, it seems to be the going rate these days:eek: and most of the guys mention they've picked one up heaps cheaper then that:)
my most expensive was Grand Max for 2k or 131000¥ + shipping + spotters fee , Black Zarak for 1k ish 68000¥ + shipping +spotters fee
My cheapest was from my gf's brothers wifes brother. he had some tf's he didn't want (?:p) when he dropped them off, it was Galvatron, Jetfire, Kup, Hotrod and Ultra Magnus all 100% complete MIB. the only bad thing was, he said that there were more with no boxes so he gave them to the Salvos..

Nooooooooo.

Fort Max prices will certainly drop. However as time passes and the reissue becomes more and more scarce, both will gradually rise up in price again and be pretty much what it is now.

Like what happened with Sixshot and Predaking were reissued.

A reissue Fort Max would be unlikely given the last couple city-formers shelf-warmed so badly. Also, he does not conform to today's child safety laws in particular the 'drop test' however this would not be an issue in Asia as it would be marketed towards collectors.

They never denied the rumour at the Cybertroncon in Singapore this year (as it was mentioned on the Takara panel Q&A). Word was that it may come out as a 30th year reissue but apart from that rumour, nothing confirmed from anyone official.

Ahhh.... when I was 14.... around 2004...

I spent $500 (or $400) on a G1 Trypticon, in the box, all parts, instructions, stickers unapplied.... Box in very good condition and Fig was really nice....

My Dad... was sooo annoyed at me when he found out.... (it was my own money) but I really wanted him....

MP-10, Takara version, about $240 shipped. Bought well before the Hasbro version was announced officially. I'm not sure whether I would have waited for the cheaper one had I known it was going to be released. I quite like the darker blue of the Takara version. It's just a beautiful model overall, I don't regret spending the money at all.

GoktimusPrime

The TakaraTOMY colours are nicer IMO, but I don't think it's worth the price -- but if you already have it then you might as well keep it. :) It's not as if had the clairvoyance to predict that a Hasbro version would come out cheaper... if you did then you could retire and live the rest of your life as a trillionaire off lottery winnings. ;)

I think many of us have purchased a more expensive version, then later in the future a cheaper version became available. Last year I purchased a Henkei Wheeljack from a collectable toy store in Taipei for about AU$37... then shortly after returning to Australia I found Generations Wheeljack for $25!! United Wheeljack is a nicer colour, but not worth $7 above RRP. I would have been perfectly happy getting Generations Wheeljack and saving myself $12. Gah. :( Likewise I paid about $50 for freaking Gentei Thundercracker... then last year Generations Thundercracker came out. I got it anyway, because I'm not happy with Gentei Thundercracker (due to mould degradation issues). So yeah, I've also experienced getting a more expensive version of a toy only to find a cheaper version locally later on. ;)

Wow, that's hectic. But spending $400 on a multiple-figure haul is different from spending it just on one toy! $300 is the most I've ever spent on an individual Transformer (MISB Brave Maximus) and I have no intention of breaking that record (unless they happen to release a toy that retails over that price and I think it's worth it... I've yet to see such a toy come out)
