I've been thinking for a while, I want to get a grimlock figure, but seems the Masterpiece Grimlock is cancelled for Australia...TFA Voyager would be next best thing...probably not but its most available to me. I want to know is it worth it...I know it may not be brilliant cause its 'animated'. But is it a good figure otherwise...

average if honestly, but I'm quite partial to grimmy so I'm happy with it.
We will get a MP Grimlock release some how, I guarantee it.

I see you don't have Animated Jazz either...:p
One thing to consider is whether you want the other Dinobots to go with him. I'm missing Swoop (and need to fix one of Sludge's robot legs, and replacement parts/weapons etc etc) and the G1 Dinos are pretty costly these days. If you do want to get the whole set (& let's face it, like most of us you probably will if you don't already) you're better off with Animated Grimlock and co. on a cost/accessibility basis.
That said, if you're patient, willing to save for a while (hard while 13 I realise), and suitably ingratiating:D I'm sure someone from here would be happy to split postage with you somewhere down the track for MP Grimmy even if he doesn't get an AU release, a lot of people here seem to be after him and we all get what we can when we can. You've got a whole lifetime to get one, it's not like you have to stop collecting TFs once you 'grow up'...heh.:o
I've got a treasured beat-up G1 Grimlock from my childhood and the MP is pretty costly so I'm gonna pass, but he does look pretty sweet IMO.

IMO it's one of the worst Grimlock toys ever made*. For what you're looking for I'd recommend getting Classics/Henkei Grimlock over this toy - much better value for your dollar.
---------------------
*Only ones worse would be Action Master Grimlock, Energon Grimlock and Pretender Grimlock... I'd say that Animated Grimlock is relatively on par with Pretender Grimlock (comparing them by 2008 and 1989 standards respectively)

Gok - even by this definition, it would make Animated Grimlock only a middling-to-low quality Grimlock toy:
= Presumably good in Goktimus's book - Original mould, Masterpiece, Titanium, Alternators, Beast Wars, Classics mould.
= In-between - Animated Grimlock.
= Worst - Pretender/Legends ("relatively on par"), Action Masters, Energon.
Personally I think Animated Grimlock is not a bad toy per se, just not worth his price point - some of the plastic is flimsy and the sword doesn't really stow away in beast mode. I would say to hold out unless you can get him on sale or second-hand.

So even optimistically speaking it's an ordinary toy. And as you said, for what you'd pay it's not great value for money. And Ironhide63 said that he wants a Grimlock toy, not necessarily an Animated Grimlock toy - but that he doesn't think he can get Masterpiece Grimlock and is looking for an alternative. So in regards to that, I would recommend Classics/Henkei Grimlock over Animated.

I would not recommend classics Grimlock unless it's purely for dinosaur mode. Save up for a g1... I got the g2 blue version for about $30 shipped from england. There are always better options.

I agree - if you're looking for a representation of Grimlock, that toy is amongst the worst - much worse even than the Animated one. It's a good deluxe toy, just a really bad representation of Grimlock.

Classics is a good secondary option, but the real question to ask yourself is whether the time and sacrifice of saving for an extended period of time would be worth it in the long run.
This news (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/missed-out-on-mp-grimlock-dont-worry-hell-be-released-again/15929/) may be of interest btw, it's still pretty costly but it beats ebay prices. That said, I'd be pretty surprised if we don't get an AU release sometime.

I am a fan of animated grimlock...i just dont think its the greatest grimlock toy...I probably would get MP Grimlock, only i dont really have $149.99. Ill do some more thinking...saving for a while wont hurt.

Personally, I think Voyager Grimlock is great. Okay, yeah, he has a big hole in his dinosaur mode chest which exposes his robot head (and I'm blatantly biased towards him because I love the Dinobots), but otherwise he's a really good toy. I like the other Animated Dinobots better, though, because they look, well, dinosaur-ish, whereas Grimlock looks more robotic.
Classics Grimlock is an alright toy-the dinosaur mode is his best mode. I think the Special Edition Overkill repaint is more suiting for the mold.
There is the Activator version (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:ActivatorGrimlock.jpg)of Grimlock. While it doesn't have the sword, it's significantly cheaper than the Voyager, and VERY significantly cheaper than MP Grimlock.
Thinking of MP Grimlock, it seems to me that he's more of a display piece than a 'toy'. I think you should take that in account (if such things matter to you, obviously) if you're thinking about getting MP Grimlock.

There is the Activator version of Grimlock.
That's a good suggestion! Perhaps you could buy an Activator to satiate your desire for Grimlock until you can afford an MP. :)

and kev owes me for getting him such a good price :P
if you do intend to save up for MP grimlock, you should budget for something around the 200+ AUD mark. When we preorded, we paid 183aud shipped from japan, and that was an amazing price.
oh and my girlfriend looooooooves mp grimlock :)

...AU$180-something might be okay, but if it's gonna cost you more than $200 including shipping then you might as well pay an extra $20-30 and buy it from a local import store. At least you'll have the toy right there in your hand and carry it home from the shop instead of worry about anything happening to it in shipping. Still... a saving of $20-30 could buy you a Scout or Deluxe. <shrug> (^_^)

Keep an eye out on ebay.. if you keep ur eye out, you might find a loose animated or henkei Grimlock for much less than normal. Alternatively, look for an incomplete or partially broken G1 figure - those too are much less than normal. Even, when you older than 13, money is still an issue for the best of us ;)
I have animated grimlock - he is still in his box, and to be honest, hasn't really done much for me. I'd say go with what GoktimusPrime suggested - Henkei. If all else fails - go with your gut! Peace :)

but seems the Masterpiece Grimlock is cancelled for Australia...
I wonder where you got this idea?
He's not cancelled as much as he has not even been announced. Hasbro Australia told someone here that Takara Masterpiece Grimlock would not be available. Let's try to give that a bit of context to avoid further confusion:
1. This is not strange as Takara is supposed to stick to their turf while Hasbro sticks to theirs. Australia is Hasbro's turf.
2. While Hasbro Australia has imported Takara branded Masterpiece toys for release here in the past, if I'm not mistaken they have only been toys that Hasbro themselves do not make, e.g. MP Ultra Magnus, and MP Prime w/Trailer.
3. Even though Takara has already released MP Grimlock and Hasbro has not, it has been alleged that Takara designed Grimlock at the strong behest of Hasbro. If you take this rumor along with the recently translated interview of Takara's designers, the magnitude of gimmicks in MP8 would certainly reinforce this. Thus, it is expected that Hasbro eventually will be releasing their own flavor of Masterpiece Grimlock.
4. Once (if) that announcement happens, asking Hasbro Australia if they'll be releasing it locally would make considerably more sense. However, Hasbro Australia rarely seems to have a handle of what's going on at any given moment, and even if they do, there's no guarantee that their information hasn't changed from underneath them since.
5. Lastly, when and if Hasbro Australia do release a Masterpiece Grimlock, whether it be Hasbro's or Takara's, there's no guarantee it's going to be less than A$200 anyway.
So, all that being said, like many others here, I think Takara MP Grimlock is awesome. I agree with Silver Dragon in that I greatly see him as a display piece, if not the most displayable TF I've ever seen, but all the accessories and gimmicks should hopefully add a bit of play value, although that's not my personal area of enjoyment.
If you were to consider getting MP Grimlock, here are a few options:
1. Robot Kingdom current stock (http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=Category&II=TFTRMP08&lang=us)
They have 2 left at the time of me writing this for US$140. If you were to order that by itself shipped to yourself with today's exchange rate (.77 + 2%), that would be A$227.
2. Robot Kingdom pre-order stock (http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=Category&II=TFTRMP08R&lang=us)
If you can wait until the September restock (but pay before it), you can save US$20, bringing your individually shipped total to $201.
3. eBay
Shingstar1982 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574719522&toolid=10001&campid=5336043815&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com.au%2Fmerchant%2Fsh ingstar1982%3F_nkw%3Dgrimlock%26_sacat%3D0%26_trks id%3Dp3911.m270.l1313%26_odkw%3D%26_osacat%3D0) has plenty of these listed and has even recently reduced prices by about $10. He lists them on various eBays (US/UK/AU) and I find that the ones listed at eBay UK are the best deal, getting it to you shipped for around A$203. While this seller does indeed ship your items to you, his packing effort isn't the best. It might pay to make a specific request if box quality is important to you. There seem to be a few other HK sellers around that price too.
However, if that's still a bit too rich for your blood, I agree that either G1 or Classics/Henkei would be the recommended route.
Henkei Grimlock isn't considered as superior over Hasbro's release as more recent Henkei counterparts are, so definitely take a close look at pics of both Hasbro and Takara so you can decide which one you prefer. You should be able to get Henkei Grimlock shipped to you for less than A$40. I have no idea about Hasbro's, but it should be similar.
But yeah, but try to save up and get the big guy ;)

I loves my Animated Grimlock, but he is far from what i would call a great figure. Being in the same size class as Lugnut does diminish him a bit, since we all know that Animated Lugnut is possibly one of the greatest toys made in recent years.
If it wasn't Grimlock, but another toy who was made to the same standards i'd most likely not be a fan.
Unless you love Animated, and are looking to complete the line, stick with the Activator and keep saving for the MP version, Voyager Grimmy probably wont make you as happy as you hope he will.

Yeah and doesnt turn his head, lights up or changes eye color, but other than that, transformations the same, plus G1 Grimlock is the one that started it all anyways..... dont even start about that tray and apron brrrrr.
Although saving up for it may work out well in the end (MP grimy) as it helps keep you motivated to save, nothing like a good target to keep the inspiration up. I had to wait 22 years to get me MAX ( Brave Max) so it aint so bad, along the way your collection grows and becomes more precious and its so much satisfying to get what you really are after. :D

Animated Voyager Grimlock is a winner for me and I'm delighted with him both in either modes. I'd say a very good looking toy especially for animated lovers and perhaps even for some non-animated fans. :)
But if there'd be only one grimlock in the world that sands can buy, I'll definitely get myself an MP grimlock. Don't just buy toys for any other reasons unless you really really want it. Otherwise, the toy that you utmostly desires might still haunt you in your dreams and that's not healthy. Saving is good! And you'll never know, maybe sometime soon, an MP grimlock *cough hasbro* may pop up in our locals...;)

IMHO:
beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we are all going to like different figures for different reasons. TFA Grimmy may grow on you, or you might get it and hate it. This is the risk of collecting TFs. (I would love to say that I have never bought a figure I coveted, only to be incredibly disappointed it).
Being a huge Dinobot fan, and not a big fan of TFA figures, I will say that I do like my TFA Grimmy and was not at all disappointed. (esp since I got him for $40). Never been fussed on the classics version though.
For my 2 cents - perhaps save a bit and get a good condition (with all accessories etc) G1 Grimlock off ebay. Thats the real original Grimlock. Doesnt get more Grimlock than the G1 one. :o
Cheaper that the MP too.

Not a fan of it. Too loose, too much open space, too flimsy, too ill-thought out.
