Well, it's been 25 years since audiences first saw James Cameron's Masterpiece. There's a new line based on T2 from Neca coming out this year. And of course, this week Terminator Salvation opens in Australia.

So, it's fitting we should have a Terminator thread too for figures, movies, dvds, and not to mention general chit chat for people who (like me) love all things Terminator. :)

~

I saw the first wave of TS figures at Kmart today (both 6" and 3.75"). The T-RIP looks pretty good, as did the Hunter Killer.

I saw some Terminator stores in a Toy Kingdom store in VIC at the start of May.

From what I've seen in the US stores, it looks like either John Connor toys are short packed or highly in demand.

Does the movie start this Thursday? I want to hear other's thoughts on it.

Seen some of the Terminator toys in London at Forbidden Planet. Havent really been interested in them either and I have seen a few John Conner figures at the local shops.

I dont think meh even comes close. the endo's have the most screwed up jaws and most of the john connor figures have his face covered.

I've got a complete collection of Kenner T2 Figures and the blow the burrent ones away. atleast kenner got some sort of likeness.

Evidently Hot Toys (see below) were the only company allowed to produce christian bales likeness which may explain much of the crappy Connor toys

Yeah I even considered getting some and going over them with some some gunmetal and chrome paint but I just couldn't envisage enough of an improvement.

Yeah, the endos look a little basic compared to the ones Neca and McFarlane produced a few years ago (not to mention the new T2 endo coming out in June), but I may grab the T-RIP if I get any at all.

The only item i'll get from the 'movie line' of toys will be the Bio-flesh regeneration set to sit next to my kenner T2 one :D

Otherwise i'm premium collectibles all the way

I may get some endos, but that would be all.

I still weep over the cancelled corpse of Sarah Conner Chronicles. They took what could have easily been a robot of the week setup and made a deep Sci-Fi show with very interesting characters and story arcs.

I have little doubt that Salvation will suck.

Ah that explains those masked toys, and probably why the cross-sells on the toy backs never include the John Connor toys.

I was disappointed that the movie didn't mild spoilers include (as far as I noticed) any reference to Sarah Connor Chronicles. I would have been happy for Kyle to have at least mentioned in passing his younger brother. And since Kyle was accompanied by a cute little kid why not have it be his younger brother?

got it at JB Hifi (no# 459/500) $150. Eyes light up and plays sounds etc. Only had the Skynet Blu-ray (1 disk) in it (unlike the US set that has the Extreme Edition and Ultimate Edition DVD + digital copy) the disk tray has enough room to store the other films if you wish (I may do that). It appears to be a 1:1 scale bust.

just watched it, the super-duper extented cut, need to enter in a "code" (82997, the date of judgement day) to watch it, the future ending is balls, no wonder they cut it :D

The high-def transfer has been DNR'd into oblivion, still craps all over the DVDs though.

I haven't read up much on it to avoid spoilers since it has already been released internationally but I have seen some good and bad word of mouth going about.

I will wait till I see it on Saturday for myself.

I enjoyed it. A little bit monochrome on the eyes, but overall enjoyable 7/10

Saw some of the actions figs in Kmart. Man they look crap. Like the piss-poor Pirates of the Carribean figs from the 1st movie. Articulation? Bah no need! Good paint apps? Well, his jacket os khaki plastic, that'll do. Why does Battle damaged Marcus have a mohawk? THAT didn't happen in the movie!

I pity the Terminator...

Saw the toys in Target - the usual low quality movie blockbuster toy fare - but the H-K isn't too bad though. Not $50 worth of good, but nice none-the-less (bit iffy about the gun metal gray however).

It's disappointing not to have a lil' Bale. I understand about likeness rights, but not even spelling John Connor's name properly?

What kinda hokey licencing deal did Playmates sign?

I saw Terminator Salvation last night ...

Amazingly, I wasn't disappointed! Having said that, it's nowhere near as good as the original 2 (except for the special effects)!

My thoughts...

*SPOILERS*

It was really missing the whole time travel element! It wasn't quite the same without it. I mean, it's such an integral part of the 'Terminator' storyline - being punished for future actions is really what the whole plot is supposed to be about!

Still, I prefer the fact that they went in a different direction (unlike the terrible T3) and just made it a future war movie. That was a better decision - it you can't imitate the best, then just make it different... that was a good choice!

Some of the special effects were amazing - explosions, the endos, the T-600s, and Arnold's appearance. Some scenes were very, how shall I say, "Transformers-inspired"! ;)

I really did enjoy it, but I think they forced a bit too much in, and I know that John Connor's role became much larger once Christian Bale was cast. Also, they changed the whole ending from what it was in the original script - which kinda makes some things (and conversations) which happen earlier redundant. There were also a few inconsistencies with what was stated in the original Terminator film by Kyle Reese - but I guess when you're dealing with time travel, anything can change! :p

Lastly, I think the film suffered from not having a strong, clear villain! I mean, these movies work best when there's a main bad guy, instead of lots of little cannon fodder types. It felt more like a platform game, with a couple of Boss fights to me. It made me really miss Arnold - let's face it, he IS the Terminator! Sarah Connor is so vital too! The last 2 films have only reinforced to me that Arnold + Linda Hamilton + James Cameron = Terminator! I would love to see Cameron come back one day - but I think the chances of that are zilch! :(

Overall, I guess I'd have to say it was a great movie, but just not a great Terminator movie.

I was disappointed. In a nutshell its starts off well, but by the end I felt unsatisfied with a few elements. It was like they were building up to something but fell short... the toys look disappointing also. It's not a terrible movie, just don't expect a classic terminator movie. I think this one suffers from lack of violence and death. If you have seen the new rambo, I could imagine that level of violence in terminator salvation. Except it isn't anywhere close! This one needed more impact. They made it so that a younger audience could watch it, trying to appeal to a broad audience and make more money.

i enjoyed sarah connor chronicles to a certain extent and the salvation just felt like an extended episode. But i think the story has reached its climax unless i am proven wrong in T5

So if only "living tissue" can be sent back in time, how could they send the T1000 and the T-X (*shudder*) back in time? T1000 is made of 'mimetic poly-alloy' and the T-X is an endoskeleton covered in the mimetic poly-alloy. Still for the sake of T2 existing I can live with the oversight!

Robzy

I've thought about that one before too! I always just assumed that the time travel technology improved.
