Today's Sydney Morning Herald had, as usual, the Metro liftout. Surprisingly, it had a small review of RotF in it.
Verdict?
"2 1/2 stars
The second Transformers movie is coarser, louder, dumber, and a teensy bit longer, like most sequels, but also tinged with bitterness and bile."
Waitwhat? Bitterness? Bile? As far as I've seen, it seems to be GIANT ROBOT SMASHFEST WEEEE, not anything particularly bitter. Or bile-y (which is likely not a word).
Since there wasn't a full review during the week, I'm betting that tomorrow's Spectrum will have it, where the reviewer will hopefully explain the bitterness and bile. I am not looking forward to the review in the Sun Herald, since the new reviewer they've employed appears to hate sci-fi on principle (evidence: Star Trek with 4/10).

The Telegraph gave it 2 1/2 stars too. The critique actually balked at a particular idea. Showing that the reviewer didn't do any research while writing the article...

I always disregard those reviews. I much prefer reading/watching reviews from Margaret and David from At The Movies.
I'm actually curious as to what they write about it.

I remember one review about the first movie which actually demonstrated that the reviewer had either not paid attention to the film or just didn't get it. And let's be honest, Transformers is not a movie written at the level of sophistication that anyone over the age of 8 wouldn't "get." It's no Donnie Darko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wqVHjK2bQs) (I think I get that movie?). :p

I hate to be negative, and I'm going to be honest :( I haven't seen the movie yet but from a non-fans perspective I bet 2 and1/2 out of 5 stars is probably right. I mean when you strip away all the robots, special effects and explosions what are we left with, crude humour that is funny the first time but will find it become annoying if its everywhere. I'll enjoy the movie for all the action and destruction :) and a few notable transformers.

I couldn't agree with that more, and hell, I've actually seen the movie.

Me too, 2-2.5 stars is bang-on.
I'll be very interested in what David and Margaret have to say, usually if they like it I dont and vice versa. They didnt mind the first film, and this is a totally different creature from that.

Ah, so you got yourself along to an advance screening last night, eh Trunksie? I look forward to reading what you think in the Review thread.

I wrote a fairly long low in spoilers review, but still did not get around to half of what I wanted to say.
The cheesey writing was so cheesey...

Just i case , what "i" meant to have said was....:o:o:o
It was to 50/50 .... at least give it 2 or a 3 stars for "goodness sakes" as it looks like the reviewer who gave it that score dose not know if he/she likes it or not.:D:D:p

2.5 stars sounds fair for the average Joe blow. Throw on another 1-1.5 stars for TF fans or mindless action fans.

Oh hey I think 2 1/2 stars is dead on. Really haven't seen any movies this year so this is like the big one. The thing I'm also interested in is whether or not the game is any good.
I have the DS versions of the first movie. I've been told the other versions of the first game were horrendous.
