Well thought I may as well start this up since the sneak peek catalogue with NO prices is up. Nothing too special in regards to mainstream Transformers. The Cybertron Optimus and Crumplezone pack may have a decent sale price.

What really interests me is the "Transformers Animated Collection" boxset. It's four discs. That sounds to me like Season 1 only whereas I was hoping for at least 2 seasons. :(

Oh and there's a GIJOE boxset too!

I think we do the no deposit lay by for these sales, on a normal day you have to pay a deposit, but they often drop that for the huge sales. ill try find out for you tomorrow.

I don't think thats really too bad a price.

Especially since Cybertron had a pretty high ratio of great figures.

I talked to management tonight, they say that no deposit laybys will be available during this sale.

we have those cybertron optimus two packs out in our reserve. Only about 4 of them. they will probably be moved out to shelves as space becomes available.

Is this for the opportunistic chance that people may actually pay the $129.95 pricetag before the sale to snap up a set?

If you can wait, have a closer look at Target , the Vulcan may be $20 dearer but it comes with extra ammo and belt. Just when the enemy runs out, you have another belt to whack em with.:D Personally, i'm getting mine later today from Kmart, i can't wait two weeks to torment my cat! :D

i dunno if your saying that in a rude way or not, but no, they arent movie items they wont be put on our shelves for the public until either 1. we are low on movie stock, 2. we are sold out of movie stock or 3. hasbro rep puts it out, or we are instructed to put it out.

Perhaps you dont understand what the reserve is. The reserve is the place stock is put when theres no room for it on the shelves. the public have no access to it. so i dont see how we'd be taking opportunistic chances to sell them =/

Sorry did not mean that in a rude way at all! Just thought like any business you would try to maximise your profit margin so Target may have put them all on the shelves early (which why some are already on the shelves) but I guess there will be some for the big Toy Sale :)

its all good bud, to be honest, target management wouldnt know if their coming or going. its pretty much like this

"just put out the movie stuff"

Target don't price-match, according to the staff at the store I was at today. Every other major chain seems to have some sort of price-matching policy.

It's true, I did the same thing with Target Liverpool yesterday. After trekking around the store for 20 mins, I found the Transformers toys in.... wait for it....Manchester!!??

Anyway, they matched th price, and all I had to do was go upstairs to Big W and get a catalogue.

zed, got plenty out back. good 8 to 10 left. youll have to ask someone to go get you one though because their not out yet. if they bs you saying we dont have any, say you know for a fact we have them.

do we do price match, to be honest i dont know the exact policy because i dont deal with that kinda stuff, but i think its something like: we price match, but only other stores normal prices, not sales prices. It really depends on what managers on, they all have their different interpretations of it.

sanbot
4th July 2009, 03:21 PM
I went to Target Castle Hill today and the bloody manager wont match Big W's price for Jetfire! Even when i told her about Liverpool Target doing this.

She told me that its store policy that they would only price match if the other store is in the same centre and there's no Big W in Castle Hill.

I demanded that they show me this price match policy in writing but she said they do not have this in writing and asked me to refer to head office.

I just took a look on Targets website and there is no mention of price matching policy.

It really gets to me that some stores will do it and some won't. There should be some consistency and they really should have this policy in writing just as Myers, Kmart etc do.

griffin
4th July 2009, 03:35 PM
I really looks like a store-by-store policy with Target, and in the case of one store in Perth, the policy changes according to who you speak to in the store.

The store at Carindale has now changed it's story to only price-matching for toys during their toysale (in 3 weeks), but when I showed them the photo proof of the Liverpool store, they didn't seem too sure what the current policy is. So they told me to talk to the store manager, who is away until Tuesday, because none of the other managers left in charge today were competant enough to give a definite answer on the issue.

Stopping off at Mt Gravatt Target, and being told that they don't price-match, but were under the impression that no Target does, I think I'll have to ring head office, or individual stores to see which ones do and which ones don't.

Thanks for the heads up Fatbot, I advise those going to the Riff at midnight be ready to fight, those people from Penriff know how to barge and assault one another to get what they want.

Although Mt Druitt had little postcard type things of items set for sale in the toy sale that you could take to laybuy and get put away now (larger items like swings and the electronic ride in jeeps) so there would be no need to go to the sale... Clever idea if the idiots who go for those items alone took notice of it.

the target that i work for (in the layby dept) we HAVE to get the customer to pay the $2.50 layby fee as the deposit - as in the past we have had our system go down due to the number of laybys being processed at the same time and because the laybys didnt have any deposit paid, our system deleted them - so yeah, at my store we have to process the layby fee as the deposit.

this has happened with the last two toy sales - you used to be able to "pre order" some of the items (unsure of this year - yet to process any)

if any targets are open later during the week ie til 9pm the night before the sale, they usually have all the SPL's set up and you can get toy sale prices - eventhough they're not loaded into they system as the price is displayed
so anything specific you want/need you should be able to get the night before

any q's let me know :)

Honestly guys, if you're finding so much trouble about getting a price-match, why not just go over to Kmart of Big W, get any leader for $67 / $70 and then go swap it at Target? Saves the hassle of having to talk/argue with some "annoying sales manager who won't budge".

Go Target, grab a Jetfire, pay and meet the other half waiting outside with the other leader and go straight back to service desk to refund. Target's stupidity for not wanting sales is not our problem.

Not sure about Target, but at Kmart, the staff card works on any sale EXCEPT storewide %-off sales. So even section-wide sales (like % off toys) it works, but the scanner just rejects the card on store-wide sales.
I would think Target would be the same on that.

I guess it depends how late the store is open. Big W CBD had the sale prices at 5pm on the day before (with the store closing a few hours later)

I can go to Target at 6pm tonight, but I can't do 12:01 am in Ringwood.

If the store closes around 6 then they will most likely set up prices after the has closed.

Your target is trying to save money by setting during todays selling hours rather than after the store has closed - which FYI isn't overtime or penalty, just usual rates

the prices won't load into the system til 12am which is why stores font open til 12:01am to ensure the system is up properly

if an item is on the shelf with it's toy sale SPL then all you need to do is take it to your preferred POS (reg/lby) and as it scans tell them the price on the shelf - as the sale ha/is being set up, PIS staff should be aware of this and have their RFs loaded for tomorrows prices

the prices won't load into the system til 12am which is why stores font open til 12:01am to ensure the system is up properly

Are you sure this is the case? Kmart's load in at about 10PM, but they always say it's midnight.

I'm tossing up on whether to go or not, but there are Transformers I am after, just Lego and other Spongebob stuff for the missus...

Not sure if it is worth the effort getting half killed by the westie mothers getting wii's, swingsets and bikes. I hope they dont all bring their strollers and hellspawn like they do at the Kmart midnight sales.

Sorry my bad for the confusion. It's actually volumes I meant NOT seasons. Basically the boxset contains the 4 DVDs:

- Transform and Roll Out
- Vol1 Blast from the Past
- Vol2 Lost and Found
- Vol3 Megatron's Rising

4 episodes each, so that makes it 16 episodes in total from the 1st Season?

I just got home from a couple of Targets here in Brisbane and the Transformers shelves were pretty much empty. I've been holding out on buying ROTF waiting for this sale cause I had a couple of gift cards. Man, what a let down, I had to settle for a few figures I didn't really want and there really wasn't a hell of a lot to choose from. It looked like there had been a crazed mob go through the TF stocks.

My girlfriend's son wanted The Fallen - they're all sold where he lives... so she went to Target on Broadway during her lunchbreak, and it was bedlam from all accounts. Screaming kids everywhere, and no TFs in sight. As usual, Rockdale Target has stock longer than the other Sydney Targets - they had two The Fallens when I went about about 6pm. And they were quiet, as usual :)

I pity you getting abused for the 10c bags, nettie!. I personally just don't see the need for a bag most of the time anyway... but it's not like 10c is going to kill people. Australia post is doing the same thing with their plastic bags, soon, by the way.

From the sounds of these posts most if not all TF's were goneski real quick! Castle Hill Target was the complete opposite. There were heaps of TF stock left. I was the only silly person actually running to the TF section as all the mums and dads ran for all those other crappy excuse for what they call toys these days.

I don't get why people are whinging over 10cents for a plastic bag. I think its good that Target are charging. But then again I've never really seen any real need for plastic bags apart from using them as garbage bin bags hehe

Target Browns Plains in 'Brisbane' had a huge section for TFs, but was being raided very quickly. Several Jetfires and Fallens were still there near the end of the night. Aside from Voyger Megatron, Mixmaster, Deluxe Mudflap (both versions) and Ravage, everything else was wave 1 or 2 on just about every size class.

Different Targets have different amounts of Toy stock. The one at Browns Plains had a massive double-sided 10 meter section of shelving allocated to Transformers. It was about a third empty at the end of the first day, but still heaps was left there.

The Target in the CBD (today) though, didn't appear to have much more TFs stock/shelfspace than they usually have, so was a disappointing selection.

If I went to the CBD store first, I'd feel the same way you do. But going to the Browns Plains store, I felt differently because they had 2-3 times the amount of TFs they've ever had at any of their previous peak restocks.

1. Stock is setup at least a week prior to toy sale
- with all stock put on the floor.
meaning it can all be sold at regular price
2. At the end of each toy sale day the store is reblocked
meaning if there was a whole TF aisle and headbin first morning and say half get sold on day1, at the end of day1 they would compact the stock etc
3. Stores get stock based on their size and the likelihood of selling stock - for example, my store gets shit compared to other stores in our district cos we are one of the smaller stores.

sorry but you can't turn up on day2 of toy sale and sook about lack of stock.

If people want stock so bad they would
1. Be there when store opens
2. Buy the stock at any price - cos of they really wanted it, then they'd be happy to simply find it.

The Vic stores made anywhere between $323,000 and $440,000 on day1 - normal day budget is approx $60,000 ?

Bigw managed to have inventory their whole time..... They never have empty shelves. So yes, I can sook all I want because if you advertise items for a period of time, you better have them.

Target is just pathetic. Must only work for the mexicans because chermside, northlakes and strathpine have been crap for the last few years. Not just tfs either, but lego as well. Even on a non-sale day, it's crap, nothing but empty shelves.

Woulda made all that money from clothes, manchester and dvds because they aint got anything else.

Huh, what?!

Within 2 days of their sale, every BigW I went to had empty shelf space where the TFs were supposed to be, and none restocked until after the sale. Carindale was the worse with just Animated, and roleplay/Stompers.
What BigW are you talking about that had such poor sales and actually restocked during the sale?

Both strathpine and northlakes.

The layby line at bigw was still 2-3 hours long when I got there in the afternoon & still had plenty of stuff.

The toy aisles were kept nice and full the entire time, it was the extra space (rest of the store), that they actually filled with toy inventory that got demolished. Target didn't add anything. The only toys they had any real inventory of were the cybertron $90 twin packs.

The big W melbourne people hit toy sale night, restocked once since the first night of toy sale and pretty much everything ROTF sold within the first day.

They only restocked with breakaway wave deluxes and thats all even last night, no more mudflap wave no voyagers no more leaders. Same with others I visited...

It's just the way it is, if you gamble to get something cheap it might sell out and you might have to wait a long time to get it, if at all.

Go shop at Big W then if target isnt doing it for you, or, go write a letter of complaint and mail it to head office, i guarantee you they'll read the first 2 sentences, laugh about it and throw it in the bin. You forget that target isnt the transformers store. we sell plenty of other toy lines than transformers and they too need to be maintained and stocked up. And as Nettie said, if you really wanted the items youd have been there first day of the sale.

I really love hearing these people come in and whine about how the sale sucks coz we dont have what they want, when they leave it 3 or 4 days after the first day of sale.

Our "rural" Big W is pretty good with restocking down here.

Mind you i think im the biggest customer for Transformers in the district and turnover of toys can be quite slow. This can be good at times not so much for me but for the SA city guys that might be struggling to find that last wave of toys that are unavailable in the city.

Lord_Zed
25th July 2009, 11:19 PM
When I used to work at Big W long ago they restocked regularly as long as the stuff was ordered in. it's also very hard for Big W Miranda to restock because the store has no onsite warehouse. (I don't know if Target Hurstville share this problem). So the managers have to asses the what stock is missing and then organise for it to be shipped from the offsite warehouse to the store.

I think the reality is that these stores just get caught off guard by how popular certain types of TF's (read Deluxes) are. And alas they cannot tell the difference between a Deluxe and a FAB it seems.

jacksplatt11
26th July 2009, 05:06 AM
The one thing I noticed about Target when I used to work there was the lack of popular stock... Because we could never order stock (it was only what we got sent, I dunno if it's the same as you city stores, cause I worked in the country) anything that was popular and we sold out of that was it, bad luck, quite annoying but there was nothing we could do about it
