View Full Version : Favourite size class?

(this is referring to the current terms Hasbro uses for size classes. For older terms, see this (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Size_class). Also, I count Scouts and Activators as different because the latter is centered around a specialised gimmick)
I think mine would have to be the Deluxe class. They're complex and poseble, yet aren't stuffed with gimmicks.

Deluxe for me as well. They take up less space on my display. Even though I like the legend class only for the universe ones like brawn, and beachcomber, I actually wish they were scout class. Its disappointing that universe dosn't have a scout class as they seem to go alright for the movie toys. I hope someone at hasbro says hey lets do some universe scouts and with new molds and not repaints of cybertron. Grrr.

Every class has its place. Some characters deserve bigger molds to do them proper justice.

Deluxe seems just right to me.

Voyager. A little bit extra for a lot more gratification.

Voyager! cost a lil bit more than a deluxe - but no electronics, and good transformations typically = GREAT

Fort Max size. If only I had hundreds of Tfs that big!

Deluxes as they are more value for money as quality has a tendency to degrade in larger toys while the price increases considerably. However as of late, smaller toys such as Scouts and even legends have increased in overall quality considerably.

Deluxe. They are the heart and soul of any Transformers line. The wonderful thing about BW was that they tried to cram as much into a figure as possible. Even basic figures were given accessories but had limitations. Deluxe being just that tad bigger allowed for so much more fun, and no spring loaded shell-formers.

deluxe for most characters...overall deluxe is better imo...but some characters need voyagers to do them justice.

I voted Deluxe. Though Basics/Scouts would run a close second. :)

Deluxe - neat size. Of course there's only so much characters that needs to be in the leader class and Voyager as well and lets face it with the heavy gimmick trend Hasbro has , it doesn't do well with transformations of figures bigger than deluxe - they cram to much gimmick it makes the figure go meh.

Deluxe first, but I have a whole lotta love for Legends!!! They rock! Voyager comes a close third!

Thought about this and I went with Voyager. I've always been a fan of the larger toys just for scale and chunk but I've found that while a lot of Deluxes are good, the best tend to be Voyagers for me. They offer more range and presence which Deluxes can't within their size class.
I also really like the Leader size class. Another derivative of my large toy mindset.

Voted Deluxe for the same reasons others have posted, however a close second would have to be Masterpiece.

Deluxe has been the most impressive and value for money size class since Beast Wars, but lately the Scout and Legends classes have been pretty good.
The larger classes are getting worse in terms of quality and value for money in the past few years.

I was going to choose Binaltech/Alternator sized, but they don't really make them anymore. Alternity is more deluxe sized, so I'd prefer them these days, although sometimes the plastics feel like they could break (eg: ROTF Sideways' insect like wings/side windows).
I wish they'd stay around the <$19.95 mark all the time though!

Deluxe is by far the size class with the best ratio of 'hits' over 'misses' - just about all my most memorable and favourite Transformers from the past thirteen years have been Deluxe. (Except Lugnut, of course.)

but he is basically deluxe too! He's so perfect he even attempts to make it into the best size class!

As has been repeated over and over again here Deluxe is THE size. I guess there's not much I can say about what makes them great that hasn't been said already here. Scouts to have there place for me and so do well made Voyagers, but I really haven't liked the larger TF sizes since Beast Wars, If I'm going to get a big TF I'd rather get a Masterpiece or a Binaltech they somehow feel more worthwhile to me.

Depends on the character...for RotF Scouts 'cos they're chock-full of tiny goodness.
Lugnut should have been Leader class dammit.

Scout/Basic. While it's a neglected size, I feel that Hasbro knows how to do that size best. Deluxe is a close second.
Anything larger is loaded with often poor gimmicks and (in Australia, at least), usually overpriced.

I love the deluxe class but I'm fond of bigger toys as I kinda feel good when I have my hands full. :)

I've yet to come across one Leader Class toy that I thought was worth $100, which is the RRP for that price point. I know that most of us wait to get these toys on sale, but who here thinks that they're worth paying full price for?
Scouts and Deluxes on the other hand I'll happily pay full price for.

*puts hands up* i dont care how much as long as i get it rather than fighting for it from the little kiddies and had a hard time looking for it later on the sale. but if i can get it cheaper why not :D:cool:

Same here. This is why I prefer the bigger toys.
I agree with many others that the deluxe's transformations seem more complex, but it just feels so flimsy in my hands.
Alternators and binaltech are the better balanced ones. Not too big or small, highly poseable and complex enough to make transforming satisfying. Although price isn't very attractive.

Yeah, that's why I paid full price for my TF1 movie Megatron, but I still don't think that the toy itself is worth the $100 that I paid, whereas I do feel that I get more value for my dollar with a $30 Deluxe. The problem with hunting is that it consumes time and often money for transportation (commuting or driving around), so sometimes getting something on sale is negated when you think about the time and transportation-cost you used spending extra weeks or months hunting for an elusive toy. Having said that, most Leaders aren't elusive - being big and expensive they will sit around on a shelf for longer. If I see an elusive carded toy and it's a bit more expensive, then I'm more likely to grab it. But there's a limit to this... I grabbed Universe Galvatron when I saw him for $35 - paid an extra $5 because I'd already been hunting for this toy for ages. When I was looking for Animated Swindle, I found him first at Myer for $40 -- passed it. No way I'd pay that for a freakin' Deluxe. Eventually got him for $30 at Target a month or so later.

I guess it depends on how the stars and moons are align sometimes i will and sometimes i wont unless i really have been looking for the toy for ages ages ages ages and found it then i dont care how much. but then again it depends on every toy on how keen i want to get it.

Dude, I'm not asking if you'd be willing to pay it - it seems that you are - what I'm asking if you think paying $100 for a Leader toy is good value for money or not! Whenever you open a Leader Class toy, do you think to yourself, "Yes! This toy is so totally worth $100!" - cos I don't.

He's really a Deluxe, but due to his lankiness he's the same height as a Voyager - a lot like Beast Machines Thrust. But remember that these aren't really size classes, but price points. Having said that, we all do consider them to be size classes too and feel either delighted or ripped off if a toy is above or below the standard size for their price point.
Beast Machines Megatron would have to be the worst rip-off in terms of being undersized for its price point -- he's like a Deluxe (and a fairly ordinary one at that) sold at a Mega price point. Grrr! Then there are toys that are big just for the sake of being big but don't offer much else - like Supreme Cheetor. :(
