It was just on tonight (or morning, now that it is past midnight), and the only thing they criticised more was the movie itself (or it's plot holes).
From their website - http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/
Apparently it was a repeat tonight, with the episode (22) originally screening on the 6th.
Can see the clip online here (http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/episodes/date_2009_Monday6July2009.htm).

Also an interesting article on Cosplay preceeding it, featuring Supanova.

I still gotta get the game, but can't find the PS2 version. Did it not get released in Australia?
If not, I'm gonna have to buy a who new console for it. I'm not a gamer, so don't like having to buy a console each time I want to get a TFs game... :(

Well, at least if you have to buy a PS3 for it you've then got a fantastic blu-ray & wireless media centre as well (unless you already have these things...then maybe not so great for you). I use my my PS3 to stream video's/music from my PC all the time...Couldn't live without it!

I haven't seen the PS2 version come through at work, only the Wii, 360 and PS3 versions. I'll ring the supplier on Monday and check up on it for you.

If you're going to buy a new console for one of the other games though, don't bother with the Wii. The Wii version is fun for a couple of hours (all it takes to finish it really), but the lack of being able to transform is ridicously pointless. It's a game based on Transformers! THEY TRANSFORM! Plus it's linear and not free-roaming like the first movie's game. I can't remember if the Wii and PS2 versions are the same though, so might want to doublecheck.

I'd recommend the PS3 or 360 versions. Eventually when I have the money I'm going PS3. I wants me some high-def Transformers goodness.

I believe the PS2 and Wii games are the same. They are done by the same team and the idea was to have different games to use the strengths/weaknesses of each format.

Hence the different games between the crap PSP and reasonable DS. From what I have seen the Wii version looks a bit cack too....

Just get the PC version, which is exactly the same as the 360/PS3 versions. It can run okay even on an old gaming PC such as mine, so long as you have a half-decent graphics card.

3 out of 10 is way, way waaaaaay too harsh, especially considering other reviews considered it to be better than the first game. I rarely watch this series (not a fan of tv games reviews due to their lack of depth), and I've seen the PC rig they used to review Crysis. Ouch, evidently the ABC couldn't afford a decent system.

And if, as you say, they spent time bagging the movie (which is cool and hip to do now) in a game review, then they're knobs. There, I said it *crosses arms*

Transcript here (http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/stories/s2618069.htm) - From what they say about the game itself it suffers from most if not all the same problems as the first one. Pity.

This review is full of it. The dude spends part of it whinging and whining about the movie.

or escort a convoy – and I don’t’ know why the transformers don’t just pick up the convoy and fly it to their destination, it would be much quicker and less painful. There's only one Autobot flier normally (and he certainly can't lug that giant weapon around), and you can't land a NEST transport plane inside a city. You land things at airports, then you transport them via train or road convoy to your destination.

And he's the one complaining about plot holes in the movie?

Well, while its nowhere near as bad as the first game (that monumental cock-up that they tried to pass as playable material ) it does get a tad repetitive at times. Over all though I am enjoying as it is. I would probably go for 4.5/10.

I would get it if you really are hankering for a TF game. It is better than the first game but it really isn't worth buying it at full price. I'd grab a second hand copy, or get it on sale.

I think the Xbox360 is a better machine purely for gaming. But PS3 is very good as Blu-ray player to watch both Blu-ray and old DVDs (it upscales the DVDs and make them look better).

Can't find the game here to rent at all, so looks like im going to have to put some hard earned credit down to get it in any upcoming sales I see..

May rent the first game to get my TF fix. Played about 10 minutes of it on my PC back in 07 and dont think I managed to get a serious feel for the game.

Might wait a while and get a trade-in with the first one (if my PC can handle it that is, if not then it'll be Lego Star Wars 2).

Few questions if people can be bothered:
Which Decepticons do you get to play as?
Do you get actual transformer enemies to fight in the sandbox map, or is it just in missions like the first one?

Playable cons = Grindor, Long Haul, Mr 'isnipe' Sideways and Starscream. There may be more that become accessible later in the game. I am still in the early stages of both campaigns. Sideways is fun. It's rather satisfying watching the poor sod get some of his own back. :D

You only fight TF's in missions (at least I think you do.) It isn't like the first game though. Each faction has its own mission room, where you can select a level. The levels naturally follow the movie locations and plot pretty closely (some levels are character specific to begin with.) Once thats done your dropped into the selected level - each with its own map- to complete specific objectives. Once you complete the mission you can unlock the free range option for the level, return to the mission room and select your next level, upgrade your factions abilities etc etc.

The in-game cinematic for the Deep-Six level is great, and Devastator looks fantastic.

This is a good game, much better than the first one and looks much better too, does get a bit repetitive though i give it 5.5/10.

I'm slightly biased and I agree that the game could have been more and the sp is like mp with bots and the missions can get repetitive..

but I still really like the game.

8/10 (with Transformers fanyboyism factored in, - 1.5 without)

3/10 is a bit harsh

After playing both the PS3 and the Wii version, I have to say the PS3 is the game to get, the story is fairly close to the movie. (the wii version is not even close!)

Wii version looks pretty terrible handles sluggishly, but shooting is far easier on the Wii, thanks to the wiimote. It reminds me of the Avatar and TMNT games on the PS2 more than anything else. The major downside is that you cannot transform, except when pulling of a super move that is too easy to accidentally trigger.
If you have a Wii, do not pay full price for the RotF game, its more fun than I thought, but not what I would call a good game.

PS3 controls take some getting used to, but once you do, the game is a snap, the only downside in terms of gameplay is the stupid time limits to earn medals, getting the Platinum times for some levels is more or less impossible, even after you have beefed up your characters (Autobots beef up alot easier than the Decepticons). Downside from a fans point is that having characters like Sideswipe and Jolt would have been perfect in this game, but no new RotF Autobots are added (Breakway does not count).

I still gotta get the game, but can't find the PS2 version. Did it not get released in Australia?

Just spoke with All Interactive, our distributor for a lot of video games including RotF. They received a message from Activision in early June stating:

"Unfortuantely Activision will not be releasing 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' on the PS2 format. We apologise for any inconvenience."

My rep does not know if this means it will not released at all or if they might somewhere down the track, but considering the time frame I don't think they'd bother. They were unsure too whether this is just in Australia or worldwide.

I did a bit of research too and Activision have stated they might stop making games for Sony (PS3 and PSP included) as "in 2010 and 2011 Activision "might want to consider if we support the console – and the PSP (PlayStation Portable) too." (http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,25669724-5014239,00.html)

Time for a new console methinks, griffin.

The PS3, XBox360 and PC game are similar and the one reviewed by Good Game. IGN Score: 6
The PS2 and Wii are different and basically dumbed down. IGN Score: 4.2
The PSP version is almost totally different and more of a top down scroller/shooter. IGN Score: 2.8

I have the PC version and thought it was pretty good. There was no difficulty level so it wasn't much of a challenge for me - headshots were easy cos the enemy barely ever moves once they transform :(. Was rather rewarding playing as Sideways and killing off the evil Autobots... Ironhide, Prime, Bumblebee etc. :) I prefer the keyboard but had to use the gamepad for the jets/heli cos the mouse wigged it out otherwise. There was alot of content to unlock which was pretty good. I seemed to enjoy free play as a car over some of the missions tho - great fun jumping off roof ramps and vehicle boost jumping at targets :D.

There arn't really that many bots to play as tho :(. When you get to Prime's and Megatron's stages they are made available to you. You can't unlock The Fallen or any other characters, even the drones like the F-18 could have been some fun to play as. The gameplay from character to character is varied enough and you can chain attacks together, triple punch - transform to car and then jump attack for a advanced takedown (which reminds me of the G1 opening where Jazz jumps at Skywarp - always liked that scene :D).

It is a simple one scene at a time format - the levels arn't very big but they don't need to be. You unlock new levels and scenes as you advance. Hopefully there will be more DLC to add more to the game. It uses the Unreal 3 engine but doesn't support modding - which is a pity cos I have a Binaltech WRC/X and Masterpiece Starscream model that I would have liked to convert for gameplay :(.
