NY Toy Fair pics of Classics 2.0 and Universe

There has been pics released from NY's Toy Fair. They include the Classics 2.0 figures (properly transformed) and 2 Universe repaints.

I am not sure if the Blaster and Quickmix repaints are supposed to be in the Classics Universe but they are not appealing to me. Powerglide looks much better properly transformed but the colors are still a shocker and I prefer to wait a year or so for Takara to release a proper one.

The other figures look very good including Sunstreaker and Prowl. With Onslaught, I am not sure if that Monzo decal is supposed to be there or if its photoshoped but it looks awful and out of place. I plan to remove the SWAT labels from the alt mode but the Mozo one looks to be on painted surface making it very difficult.

I am happy that Prowl didnt get such a cheap paint job and that the missile appear to be painted.

Out of all of them (not counting repaints) the only disappointing Classics is Powerglide.

I still find myself intensely disliking Powerglide, but it's nice to see Sunstreaker's car mode transformed properly.

Won't be going near those repaints.

Yup, Blaster looks really terrible. I mean, Universe Ramjet terrible.

I'm still going to get Powerglide, but I may wait until the inevitable repaint where Hasbro miraculously decides to do what the fans wanted in the first place AFTER they've also all bought the crappy original. :D

Also Classics Galvatron. Very Galvatron robot mode, but they made him a tank instead of a cannon on treads (which is basically what a tank is anyway).

I would've preferred Galvatron as a space cannon/gun similar to his G1 alt modes instead of a tank. I don't really see the need for it considering that his G1 alt mode isn't a realistic gun. :/ Still, it's cool that he's a whole new mould instead of just a repainted Megatron. :)

I like Classics Galvatron's robot mode but I dislike the alt mode chosen. It would have been better if they had added more purple instead of gray and a bit less conventional Tank shape to resemble his space canon more.

I'm fine with Galvatron being a tank but why only a deluxe? It will display very poorly next to voyager Megatron. ''And then Megatron was reformatted into the much mightier, but much titchier, Galvatron.'' Also I hope the final deco has either a lot more purple or none. At the moment it looks like they made a grey toy then decided to slap a few patches of purple on to make it more recognisably Galvatron.

Hmmm the Deluxes look better in these photos.

Not sure about the two big boys, Onslaught has a great robot mode, but I don't dig his gigantic lethal force S.W.A.T team veichle mode, And Powerglides colours are all wrong, mind you I do like his Jet mode, even in Hothouse colours.

Galvatron looks pretty good for a deluxe, although I have to ask why is he a deluxe? So he can fight Rodimus I guess????? I dunno, I can deal with Powerglide being large cause he turns into a big plane, but a Tank is also big, along with Onslaught this is starting to get annoying.

I looked at Blaster, now I'm laughing its a sad laugh though.

And lastly who the hell is Heavy Duty, I don't recall him from G1? In fact I thought he was a G.I. Joe

I like Galvatron, and I don't mind him being a deluxe in itself - but a deluxe Galvatron would look pretty odd next to an ultra Powerglide.

Not that I have any plans to get Powerglide.

Well, Megatron is all wingplates so it wouldn't look that wrong. Both of them overshadowed a (white) Powerglide is just ridiculous.

:)Well I'm happy enough with Powerglide even if no one else seems to be:p, I would have preferred the old style colouring but I like the mold enough to ignore this minor flaw. If I really dislike it I believe i have enough painting skills from doing Warhammer and Warhammer 40K to address this problem but I'll wait and see once he is up close and personel:D.

I would have liked Blaster better if he changed into his G1 alt mode. The plane thing feels a bit weird.

The rest seem pretty good - not sure about the Quickmix one though. I think I like Prowl the best so far.

All the Classics look great. My problems aren't with the molds at thsi point but
a.) The colouring: but I have confidence Takara will easily resolve this.
b.) the issue of scale w/ regard to Galvatron especially. It won't stop me from buying it but it feels wrong to have a Galvatron that will be dwarfed by Voyager Prime or Jetfire and even Megatron. Powergilde being larger and an Ultra I can understand. Optimus wasn't always the tallest bot you've got to remember. But a leader lacking presence is really unforgiveable. Galvatron will probably be my biggest disappointment.

Voyagers... not feeling them. I'm liable to grab the Heavy Bomb but Blaster... if I'm desperate.

Galvatron is lovely, he will look good standing besides Tank Unicron!

The Legends class figures are nice too, I'd love to see a full size Red Alert (made from either the Sideswipe or Cybertron Hot Shot mould).

Both the giants bother me, Onslaughts veichle mode looks like it might be oversized when I see it in reall life, and Powerglide is white. That said I really don't see any reason for Hasbro to make either of these guys giants, except to as you hinted fill them with lame cheap gimmicks and jack up the price. I'll be getting these 2 on the discount shelf, or no at all methinks.

Love the deluxes though, even the imperfect Galvatron.

The deluxes look sweet, although I would have preferred Galvs to be a cannon. (Megs = gun, Galvs = Cannon!) But the tank doesn't look too bad at all.

PG I will wait for Tak Toms colour. The plane looks OK, but the robot mode needs PG'S red colour IMO.

I dig Onslaught. Nice powerful Robot mode. Shame he will be taller than everyone though......

The Cement truck doesn't look as bad, but I didn't like the original sculpting of the toy.

It kind of looks like a hybrid between movie packaging and the original classics box/card art.

I just realized that Octane (Tankor :( ) appears not to have a proper arm and rather a stupid spin gimmick similar to the Classics green Tank Megatron. This is dissapointing as I hate it when a whole limb is replaced with an awkward gimmick such as what they did with Tank Megatron. Before I thought that the weapon was removable.

The above has soured my enjoyment of that figure.

Also something a bit disturbing about this packagings is that they all seem to emphasize on some dumb weapon gimmick similar the movie FABS. Prowl has the "With Acid Blasters!" while Octane has "with Melee blade!"

I dont like these gimmicks at all as Hasbro is notorious for sacrificing toy design and aesthetic in favor of lame gimmicks.

I guess Hasbro wants to highlight what weapon the TF is using... then the kids owning them would go to their mates, "mine comes with a melee blade", "oooooh I'm scared but mine comes with an acid blaster, which mean I can attack you without coming near you!" if you know what I mean :)

Galvatron is a midget! It seems to be a nice mold but you can't have a decepticon leader as a deluxe. Its an outrage.....I had hoped so desperately for a G1 inspired voyager galvatron that i could display against voyager ultra magnus. Now I'll end up with this teensy weensy thing. I'm also a bit put off by the colouring. The toy fair pics show the grey bits to be pretty green (like greenscream) but the official pics (linked by griffin in one of his posts) are a much nicer shade of grey. Oh dear Hasbro - you've stuffed this one up good and proper.

Looks like I may have been right the first time and wrong in my last post.

The Club magazine scans (the mistransformed pics) have Octane without his weapon and displaying both fists. Phew! :)

I hope that the pics we are seeing now only looks like the weapon is built in and not some foul last minute remold.

Since several colored pics of the Universe classics have already been publicly released, is it alright now to post the scans of the magazine?

You can post a link to another website that has the scans, so that it is their butts on the line if they are members. But I would still be making sure we don't reveal too much of the magazine, to maintain the incentive to join.
