I've found out today that Jay Jays are emailing the winners of their website competition, and I wanted to see if anyone here (actual committed fans) won anything in a 'Transformers' competition?
There were four lots of prizes - Camera phones, P3 pack, Toys/movie passes, TF2 console games.

I wonder if the signed posters (like the Gold Optimus at Myer) will actually go to a fan who treasures it, or just end up in the bin (or damaged by some youngen who doesn't know its value to fans).

Can you imagine some uninformed parent throwing their 5 year old monster the Gold Optimus and telling them to 'go play in the backyard'?
Man I gotta enter some of these contests!

I got the email too (to choose the game format I want). Now I have to decide which game, and therefore, which console I will have to buy to go with it.
I was offered to choose between Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, or PC.
Not keen to get a PC version, as my computer isn't good enough for games, and don't want the distraction when I'm supposed to be working on it.
The Wii sounds like fun with all the physical activities/games, but isn't a gamer's console, and from what some are saying about the TFs game, it isn't a 'complete' game compared to the other formats it was released on. If I'm just getting a console for the TFs game (initially), I want to get the game version that has the most to do.
That left the PS3 and the XBox.
And since Microsoft is evil...
I chose the PS3, and it'll allow me to buy the TFs Movies on Blu-ray as well. And it'd be even better if the PS3 can play PS2 games (I vaguely recall someone saying ages ago that it can't).
The most important thing for a very infrequent gamer like me is the longevity of the console. Whichever console company releases a new console last, the longer its current one will be out and have new games released for it.
I read this article (http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/081219Predictions.aspx), which tries to predict when the next generation of consoles will come out for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. It also gives some stats for their past consoles, and the good and bad points for their current consoles.
Nintendo
1985 - NES - 61million
1991 - SNES - 49million
1996 - N64 - 32million
2001 - NGCube - 21million
2006 - Wii - 34million
2010? - Wii2?
Microsoft
2001 - Xbox - 24million
2005 - Xbox360 - 22million
2011? - Xbox720?
Sony
1995 - PS - 102million
2000 - PS2 - 140million
2006 - PS3 - 16million
2012? - PS4?
The Wii is certainly outselling the other two current consoles, so I can't imagine they would be too worried about not being a 'gamer's console', or change direction. Too many families and oldies are buying them for those activities type games.
With so many PS2s out there, I'm thinking they would be releasing games for it for some time - just nothing too complex, like games that only the current consoles can handle.
So now I gotta go PS3 shopping... and a decent sized HD TV to make the most of it and the blu-ray player.
Might have to cut back on TFs for a while to save up for it.

Sony is not any better... :p

Yes, any of the current PS3s you buy from stores now are no longer backward compatible with your PS2 discs. Not that Sony hasn't figured out how to emulate PS2 games on PS3 by software means... They have already figured it out, but will only offer the old games as downloads that you'll have to pay for again. This'll come soon. So you're better off keeping your old PS2, or replace it with the latest slim line model (with the power adaptor built into the console to save space) when it reaches a very low price.
I think as a pure gaming console, Xbox360 is still the better platform. PS3 is more powerful technically, but has more restrictions in terms of programming for it so the Xbox360 ends up having more good games. However, Xbox360 is not a Blu-ray player. So I think the PS3 is a very good choice for a TF fan.

though this isn't a thread about video games, lean towards PS3 if you are going to play online as you have to pay subscriptions to play online on xBox360

If ya want a good Blu-ray player that doubles as a decent games console grab the PS3, if you want a great games console grab the 360, if you want a playskool toy grab the Wii :D
I had buyers remorse for my PS3 (and that only cost me $450, not the $600+ price tag we get slugged here! But I'm warming to it now)

But consider that for for every PS3 online gamer, there is another 100 Xbox gamer online. PS3 online sucks compared to Xbox. Anyway, enjoy:D

just for everyones info, new games on the ps2 are being dried up, the only games that will be coming out on the ps2 are the big name games (ie guitar hero, ea sports games, big movie-related games)
