Hey guys, I had a question on G1 blaster, was the tape door issue a manufacture issue or a common ware issue due from kids. How come this issue never appear in the collection reissue?

It's wear an tear but its actually dead easy to fix. All you need to do is open him up and fix the hinge mechanism-sometimes it just needs readjusting.

When you are ready:

1. Open him up - Remove all screws from his back and his chest should split in half like a Pretender Shell.

Note: open him up with Blaster flat on his belly so that the components don't fall off. Be careful of the springs as they may shoot off.

Second Note: The pin spring on the back lid is just there to push the door open - Ignore it as it falls in place when you close blaster. Just make sure it doesn't fall off or bend but it should be well secured

2. This is the door hinge mechanism - It's a simple spring pushed hinge. Most likely that over time or due to a drop it has become misaligned. Put it back in place as shown and that's it.

Note: There is a second spring under the door opener (Door opener is pushed up to open lid by the sliding blue hinge).

Never had a reissue but my childhood one (that I sold) never did it but I had to do that exact fix to my current one when he arrived. My first one was an earlier version of mold, maybe it was a little different inside too. I really have no idea...

Unless you had the original Microchange version, I think that vintage Blaster is the same as the reissue. Maybe some fall or the toy being knocked about during play leads to the spring and the door mechanism becoming unaligned. It's easy to see how that can happen when you open him up. It may not happen to reissues because as adults we are more careful with it.

Prime is really the only toy that differs considerably on the inside of his arms when it comes to his reissues and even some of his vintage variations.

My current vintage one is the same as the reissue, the other one was slightly different.

It had a compartment in the back (you couldn't open) I have seen something about it, i cant remember.

My guess is it was re-tooled further. I'll see if i can find a pic of one...

Maybe you had a 'closer to Microchange' early release of the Blaster mold.

There is a pic here, it actually could open too  ... Cool!

and says...

'Type 1: removable back, Takara stamping
Type 2: removable back, Hasbro/Tak stamping
Type 3: Solid back, Hasbro/Takara stamping'

so it was one of the first 2.
