View Full Version : What does your username mean?

Just out of curiousity, what are the meanings of your username in Ozformers. Is it made up? a favorite character? you just picked it anywhere and used it as your user name? something sentimental?.... etc the list goes on. Care to share?

So what does "Deceptic Optics" mean? Well, I know what 'optics' means, but what's the meaning behind "Deceptic"?

From 1993-1996 I used the online handle "Gokuu" as at the time I was a big Dragonball fan (not so much now tbh). Then after I started interacting with the online Transformers fandom I changed my handle to "Goktimus Prime" in 1997. So it's a combination of "Son Gokuu" + "Optimus Prime." In Japanese I use the handle "Son Convoy" but most Japanese fans just call me "Son" (similar to how most English speakers just call me "Gok") - although IRL I'm usually called "Goki" by both English and Japanese speaking friends alike. "Goki" was first coined by one of the executives at AniméUNSW; at a screening in 2000 I guess he decided he couldn't be bothered calling me "Goktimus Prime" all the time, so he just shouted, "GOKI!" across the lecture theatre, and ever since then the nick has stuck (as you can hear here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZNHvi0femE)). :)

Its just means 'Eyes of a Decepticon'

Deceptic - short for Decepticon

and

Optics - I got it from Megatron saying to prime, "I'll rip your optics" to my guess he was talking about primes eyes? So Optics = Eyes

Shazam is the name of a singer from some rnb group called H-Town. I first used this nickname back in the days of ICQ and I've been using it in other forums since then coz its easier to remember. But now I'm thinking I should change it to be more TF related.

Zahhak
30th July 2009, 02:02 PM
Zahhak is name from an old persian myth/story, (im from iran you see) Zahhak was a king you was tricked by ahriman(a deamon/god of darkness) and subsequintly had two snakes grow out of his shoulders. He then had to feed the snakes a brain everyday or they would eat his. Oh and if you cut them they grow back yadda yadda yadda.
I use it cause I like the word and recantly I've been wanting to do a repraint of cybertron Scourge to make him into a transformer,

I used to go by Guts, but that was almost always taken on various forums and games, so I renamed myself after the Megaman boss Gutsman, slapped Heavy on the end 'cos I though it sounded cool. Also doubles as physical description of myself!

Ironic then that you've chosen Shockwave in your avatar and sig image - so he'd be Deceptic Optic (singular). That cycloptic fiend! ;)

Yeah that makes sense - Transformers often referred to their eyes as optics or optic sensors. :)

BigPenney

BigPenney was my nickname at highschool. It started off as just Penney and then when my little brother came to the highschool it was changed to Big Penney and he became Little Penney :D. And because I lack imagination and I'm so use to being called BigPenney it's just what I end up using for fourms.

Lint
30th July 2009, 03:45 PM
LINT was the name I used to call all my characters back in the old gameboy games days when they only offered you 4-5 character spaces to write your name. Probably stems a bit from the default LINK from Zelda games and my underlying amusement by pocket lint.

It was back in the nineties, and Beast Wars Sky Shadow was the first Transformer ever bought for me by a girlfriend. She came home one day with a Sky Shadow and it soon became one of my favourite Transformers toys (and he also had one of the best tech-specs profiles of his era.) Before that, I had the sort of Grimlockbunchofnumbers username that was so generic that even I can't remember it anymore, but after that, 'Sky Shadow' just kind of stuck.

(Great topic. And I can't wait to hear the complex stories about how Griffin, Paulbot, Blackie and Robzy got their names... :p;))

Paulbot
30th July 2009, 03:56 PM
Yep, I'm one of the few (as noted at lunch today) with a username related to my actual name.

I'm Paul and I think I'm one of the guy guys hence "bot".

I signed up for Tripod with Paulbot (back in the days where Transformers had names like that and Tripod was the website building place to be) and have stuck with it as a username in many places since then.

hmmm in Filipino Fiction Mythos ( comics superheroes/ villains) this sounds like Zuma, although his origins are more Aztec as he feeds on virgin hearts and he has two boas on his shoulders, he sired two mutant kids who rebelled against him coz Zuma is evil - Galema who has 2 white serpent on her shoulders whose venom can kill Zuma and Dino ( head of serpent, body of man big serpent tail and claws to boot.)

As for me liegeprime

liege - the titular given to the big bossbot for decepticons ( either that or lord)
prime - the titular given to the big bossbot for autobots ( either that or - hey you! :p)

I like decepticons better, I collected Decepticons first in most of the lines before moving to the Autos - even in Gi Joes I prefer Cobras ( thats another toyline though) so I placed liege ahead of prime instead of vice versa.

One back draw is it twists the tongue of some other members at first which I find amusing as they at times refer to me as Liger, or ligier - which is of course from Zoids and Jap mirage respectively. Both of which is WRRROOOOOONG:mad::D! FUSION BLAST to the Cab!

As an English teacher, I like the way that your board name contains an i-before-e word, but in real life, you have an e-before-i name. So SofaMan was born, and over this years has slowly had an increasingly lengthy mythology constructed around him. :D

RagingBull
30th July 2009, 05:49 PM
RagingBull is the name of one of my favorite movies, Raging Bull staring Rob DeNiro and Joe Pesci. it was the name given to de niro's character because he fought like a raging bull when in the boxing ring.

i do alot of drawing and one day i done a drawing of a beast wars maximal in the style of the movie-verse asthetic and the atl mode was a bull, origionally i was going to call him beast wars movie iron hide, but then i thought it wasnt very origional so i figured why not Raging Bull.

so now when ever i sign up to a tf website, the name is RagingBull.

snaketales
30th July 2009, 06:11 PM
Snaketales has a dual origin

At uni while working on the student newspaper I was known as 'snake' for
1. being 'lower than snake's balls' in scamming freebies (I didn't scam them, I just made sure I was first for concert reviews, etc ;))
2. being cold-blooded when it came to subbing/re-writing stories.

After uni I labelled one of my emails to a friend as 'snaketales' i.e tales from snake, and I've used it since then.

SilverDragon
30th July 2009, 06:13 PM
I originally came up with my name back when I was a huge fan of Dragon Booster (not so much now, since it went downhill as it went on). In the show, dragons were all classified by colours-red, green, black, etc, with gold as the most powerful. But there was no silver, and I like silver (half because it was my favourite Pokemon version). So, tadah, SilverDragon.

I'd have made a new name for the TF boards, but I was thinking that silver=metal, and TMII Megatron popped up in my head.

So it fit.

So i picked one of my main character names, which, i tell you now, no one had until last friggin year. I had a unique name but now its blended with everyone else :( the full name is Sparkling Yukitora (yuki/setsu = snow, tora = tiger). that icon is of a different style to what i normally do, but it's close to what the character is. my other name is Tyranidkisses, from wahammer 40k.

Robzy
30th July 2009, 07:03 PM
Eons ago there was a mythical land, or so the tale goes, which was divided into 2 malevolent races of creatures: Humans and Demons. Savaged by war, their world was almost annihilated. One lone warrior, whose name was Yzbor, discovered a mystical and powerful portal... a single point in space that contained each and every other point in the universe. Anyone who gazed into it acquired the ability to view the far reaches of the universe, and every moment in time from every angle simultaneously, without distortion or confusion.

And so it came to pass that this mighty warrior entered in to the portal and became a god! To distinguish Himself from His former life, so as not to confuse His many subjects and His many, many, many stunningly beautiful young wives, He reversed His name to Robzy.

Robzy, the immortal, is here now. Yes, my loyal subjects, I am that man. I am that God! I am the Supreme Ruler of the universe and time.

I AM ROBZY! Kneel before me and worship me!

And by an amazing coincidence ‘Robzy’ also happens to be the nickname of your Leader’s surname!

so then the search was one to find a slightly shorter username and one that would suit
a TF character that i created and one that was "unique" enough. and one night the news was on and the headline was "lawyers find a LOOPHOLE in the system" or something like that and from then on i used the name Loophole which i quite like and can be known to be pretty loopy from time to time as well

klystron
1st August 2009, 12:28 AM
Megatron's 2nd cousin twice removed is named Klystron.

Nah, seriously though a klystron is an RF amplifing device used in radars (see picture below).
My first real job in the navy was a radar tech and my radar system used a klystron. It was pulsed with 90,000V to amplify a tiny 3GHz RF signal into a 1MW output.
At that level of power there needs to be a series of focus coils (basically large electro magnets; not pictured) encircling the body of the klystron to keep the beam of RF 'focused' as it travels up and out of the device. if the beam is off slightly it will burn right thru the top of the klystron, instead of correctly entering the waveguide, and literally slag everything in its path (yes, this did happen).

I thought ending with "tron" and being an actual real world device, as well as one from my past, all fit together as a suitable username.

And I think I'll call it grasshopper.
And I'll put a big green grasshopper out there.
Wanna see my grasshopper momma?

This is going to be a huge shock to all I'm sure - I'm named 'Doubledealer' after the fantastic G1 character of the same name. Not only is he a triple changer, but he can also change from being a Decepticon to an Autobot! I find Punch/Counterpunch fascinating for similar reasons but Doubledealer is on a whole different level of awesome. He can fly, he has a cannon that can level mountains, he's his own boss, he's an incredibly powerful gun for hire...What's not to love? Haphazard
4th October 2010, 01:18 AM
Haphazard is what I go by all over the place and there's not much of a story behind it; I picked it for myself as a more Transformers-y sounding name. XD;;;

But I did give it a bit of thought: I'm often very clumsy and tend to either head-butt things or punch/elbow things (see: objects that are more likely to damage me, than I am to damage it) unintentionally, trip over my own feet/the floor, not see something that most normal people would, and then walk into it (usually head-first). I also tend to get random bruises and scratches without realising how/where/when it happened. I’m also dyslexic and my speech-pattern can be rather haphazard too.

There’s also the ‘hazard’ in Haphazard too which rather accurately describes me in a temper.

...

And if I were to ever be given the title of Prime (somehow, IDK) I would become Hazardous Prime! *insert egotistical laughing* … Well, I found that bit amusing at least. <_<;;

It literally means Violent Dash. Which is like how I drive sometimes.
Safely and responsibly I'm sure. ;)

The Omega Is the last letter of the greek alphabet and in revelations it means the last or the end.

Mine is quite plain and not inspired by our beloved Transformers in anyway, aside from a minor tie-in with TT's homeland. My real name is Jai (pronounced 'Jeye'), and the love I have for Japan (the history, culture, the martial arts, the womenz XD), my friends referred to me as Jai-san through my teen years. So with 'san' being the Japanese name suffix for adults (unless my Jap teacher was wrong, which she probably was, she wasn't even Japanese =oP), I altered it to Jaisun as my common username in games/forums etc, as Jaisan often got me called Jayson. So yeah, very long-winded explanation of a simple name =oP

Is there a history behind the "Towers" limb of the name?

I'm not sure which 'verse it came from but its stuck with me and i'm pretty sure its canon. Mirage hails from a wealthy district of Iacon called the Towers. Only rich, elite and noble bots live there in luxury. Hence, he's from the Towers, and he's a Spy :)

Eruntalon is John in Elvish.

This stumped me for a moment, then I realised that by Elvish you mean Quenya. So you're right... it's just for me usually when I think of Elvish I think of Sindarin, and the Sindarin equivalent of John is Eruviluion (which isn't too different from Eruntalon). :)

How do you say "Till All Are One" in Quenya? (or any other Elvish language)

Unfortunately I really don't know how to say anything Goktimus. I've seen multiple translations of my name also so Eruntalon might not be the most literal translation. It was pointed out to me by a friend back in 2002 and I've used it ever since as an online alias.

There may have been someone registered under that name when you registered, but never posted here to use it (as such would have been deleted after 12 months - which is a policy I have here to free up character names that would otherwise be wasted, if there is a dedicated fan who could use it).

I'll second that! 1997 the year that Beast Wars Season 1 aired for the first time in countries outside North America (and even in the U.S. they were still finishing Season 1 in the earlier half of that year as the series had only begun airing in the latter half of 96). And 1998 was the year when Season 2 aired and Takara gave us Beast Wars Second, which included the second ever theatrical Transformers movie and the first ever toy that had a Matrix (Lio Convoy)! Sure, by today's standards his Matrix isn't terribly fancy, but at the time it was pret-ty cool! :)

1997 was also the year Machine Wars came out in the USA, and 1998 was the year Machine Wars came out in Australia... and shelfwarmed badly for the next few years. :p Back in the day when vehicle-Transformers proved unpopular and animals reigned supreme. ;)

(if I can be permitted to drift off-topic somewhat...)

'97 & '98 are memorable years, for much the opposite reason from your good self. Crows knocked my Doggies off in the prelim both those years. In 1997 had a 30-odd point lead at 3/4 time and then Darren Jarmen went berserk in the last and we lost it by a handful. Shattering.

In '98, Terry Wallace had the genius idea of playing Tony Liberatore at centre-half back and we got spanked.

Tetsuwan Convoy

Wow, I thought I posted here, but I didn't.

Well two words combined into one name = super cool:cool:

Tetsuwan from Astroboy (my fave cartoon as a kid, got me into robots) and Convoy. From a procession of vehicles.:p

I changed from just using my name when we swapped a board sometime in the past.

So, at the time, I was torn between Sonic Convoy (Sonic the hedgehog, plus procession of vehicles) or Tetsuwan. Obviously Tetsuwan won. At the time, Sonic Convoy (from Galaxy force) didn't exist either.

Anyhoo, most people refer to me as Tets now and since most of my friends I met through the board, more people probably call me Tets than my real name... That's a little bit odd...

I've grown rather fond of it now and most of my online ID has been derived from Tetsuwan Convoy on some way or another.

Such an interesting thread.

I used to go by the tag, ddrumr, representing my first initial, my favorite pastime and my last initial, and kind of sounding like "the drummer"

I would use .D. as a sig in games allowing for games that only allowed 3-6 characters. this also reflected that many of my friends did and still do call me either D or big D.

When I signed up here I felt wierd about using a character name directly and couldn't think of a good name that either related to Jazz (the character), or drumming. And didn't think ddrumr was reflective of the primary interest of the board.

Also liking Ultra Magnus and supporting the notion that I might think I'm great at games (I used to play a lot and be good at it) but in general I'm not as good as I'd like to think, or used to be.:o and being one to self deprecate on occasion I like the thought of UltraMarginal. Sings: "One of these kids is doing his own thing (getting back on topic)" :p;)

Ravagecat:
Well Ravage was always my favorite Transformer as a kid, so I have always tried to use it when I can as a username/tag...but it is so popular that it is almost always taken, so I had to add something to it to make it unique.
The one thing that used to bug me as a kid would be when I used to show friends and family my soundwave and ravage etc. and they would always say "hey look it turned into a dog".
I would always be defending him, saying Ravage is not a dog  he is a jaguar, you know a big cat??
I'm a cat person too - so hence the name Ravagecat was born.

Love horror films, the killer in Halloween (Michael Myers) was listed in the credits as "the shape" thought it was bad ass when I was 13 and was too lazy to come up with a new nickname.

Wasn't there a tv show called snake tales?

I posted a long time ago, but when i rejoined i decided to keep the same name.
Sadly now in Anime the name Yuki has become so common, like 'john' or 'smith' that i had to get rid of it in order to be found on art sites. In the beginning, Yuki-tora was a manga OC of mine. It was hardly heard of, even in anime. Its storys based on animal engineering evolution with a bit of resi evil. (so i realised later on). Yuki = snow, tora =tiger (basicly)... comes in sets of 3.

i now use Tyranidkisses. from warhammer 40k.

So with many great members on these boards I have noticed some very interesting names. Mine is in it's second incarnation (I think) I had jetfireinthesky but forgot the password after many years away and no longer had the email. The new one is Jetfire in the sky which is obviously the same with spaces :)

So to the point, I was wondering why did you choose your user name and/or what does it mean?

Jetfire is my all-time favourite toy and his cartoon character Skyfire was much needed air support for the Autobots and thus became one of my favourite characters. Skyfire was first introduced to the cartoon in an episode called Fire in the sky, hence Jetfire in the sky.

I used to do a bit of stencil graffiti art and was going through a bit of a superhero stencil phase when I decided to do a series of transformer stencils. I was searching for an image of Prime when I came across the then just released Masterpiece Prime MP01. I bought one, bought some other TFs, joined this board and forgot all about stencil art and bonsai and decided that customising transformers would be my new hobby. They're all very similar hobbies.... intricate and detailed and I find them all very theraputic.

Stencil art is how I rediscovered transformers and so I wanted to sound like a stencil making machine... hence STENCILATOR!

nofacej
18th February 2013, 08:51 PM
I already explained this in my intro thread, but I guess it doesn't hurt to post it again.

I used to go by Faceless on message boards, but found increasingly that the name was not available.
At the time I was thinking of switching usernames, a girl took to calling me 'j'.
Her name was Adelaide, but she hated it, and insisted on being called 'a' (for some reason it had to be lowercase) and decided to shorten my name (Jake) in the same fashion.
So noface from Faceless and j from a pet name a girl had for me.

It's often assumed it's meant to be a nod to the character from Spirited Away, but it's a total coincidence.
Bizarrely I occasionally find nofacej is unavailable as well.
I guess it doesn't fit so well now that I'm using a drawing of my face as my avatar.

Zommael

It's a long story, so I hope you're sitting comfortably.

I am registered on the Comic Book Resources forums under the name Zombie Uatu, as at the time I registered the Marvel Zombies series had just come out and I liked the idea of a zombie version of the Watcher. I post on those forums very rarely these days because I've found it to be a wretched hive of scum and negativity, but I liked the name.

So then when I was registering on a TF fansite - I think it was TFormers, though I haven't posted there in years - I decided to stick with the zombie theme, and I was Zombie Galvatron. So why aren't I Zombie Galvatron on here?

Well, I've always been a big fan of the Wheel of Time series of novels, and a few years ago, I decided to make my triumphant return to the fan community. Naturally, I had a theme, so I decided to go with it, and I re-registered as Zombie Sammael. Sammael (with two Ms) is the name of a major villain in the series who dies midway through, but is later impersonated by another character in mysterious circumstances, which led some fans to theorise he had come back as a zombie. So the name was apt. Anyway, I managed to build up a bit of a reputation as ZS or Zombie and decided I liked it, but the problem I had with using it in other situations was that "Samael" is a very old name sometimes given to the devil, and I didn't much like the idea that people might see that and think I was some Goth kid who couldn't spell. So I shortened it to Zommael for use as my Twitter handle.

Around this time, me and an Australian lady who also posts in the WOT community were really starting to hit it off, and a few months later we got together. A few months after that I moved to Australia from the UK, and that was around the time I registered on Ozformers. I have now been here for well over a year and me and my girlfriend are getting married later this year. So as you can imagine, I now have some emotional attachment to the name as well.

Thus, Zommael I am and Zommael I will remain. And if anyone wants to follow me on Twitter they may do, though I don't tweet about TFs very often. Also if there are any other WOTers on this board I'd be very glad to know you!

I was playing Madden with a mate and for one Thurman Thomas played for the Dolphins.

As he took one to the house for me, I got excited and mashed his first and last names together.

Handsprime
5th February 2015, 06:11 PM
Handsprime actually started off as Hands Prime, which was my Xbox gamertag, it was a combination of my last name and Ultra Prime, which was a username I was using for a while (where that came from, I just saw it and liked it). For a while I was known as Hands Prime but since I started using it a lot, at times I couldn't put a space between the 2 and ended up using Handsprime a lot, to a point people started calling me that and the nickname stuck, so now I use it for a lot of things, even DJing/Producing!

I have a fetish with sharp pointy objects that can chop body parts off and used to go by Bobbit on IRC and the more user-friendly Switchblade in the BSG community, which seemed to be taken on whichever board I joined for Transformers first, so decided on something just as sharp with a bit of my geography background thrown in for good measure.

I'm a huge Alan Partridge fan.

"Chevron Action Flash" is used by Alan to describe the design on his polo shirt during the 'A Partridge in Paris' segment on 'Knowing Me, Knowing You'

I always thought it would make a good user name. And it does. "Back of the net!!!"

the segment can be seen here:

Yep, I though it meant you were a bi-sexual guy who liked techno music. Bi-doof-dude :p

Funny thing is, techno (and stuff like it) is my least favourite genre of music. I like hard rock/metal kind of stuff (Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, etc). :p

Spiritprime

Well, it's a little complex on what my name means. It's a VERY old name dating back to my immature days. Spiritprime was a dumb combination of my favourite horse from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron when I was little, and then there was my youthful admiration of Optimus Prime. XD

Akky82
9th February 2015, 08:00 AM
I was big into Magic: the Gathering, and after a break I made a comeback winning quite a few FNM's in a row with a mix of decks back when Onslaught was legal, Akroma, Angel of Wrath and Akroma's Vengeance were 2 cards that helped me a lot, so when I started playing World of Warcraft I called my fury warrior Akroma. I got the nickname Akky as a shortened version, and made a bank alt with the name, but main changed to My bank alt when Zul'Aman came out and it stuck as we all branched out to different games like Star Craft, Battlefield, Dawn of War, SW:TOR so I just use it for everything.

(82 is year of birth, habit lately because the name Akky seems to be taken a lot lately).

Necro bumpity bump if anyone wishes to explain their username. :)

Bato

My username is just the eponymous character from Ghost in the Shell.

Back in the days I was watching the (french) dubbed version of the movie, and it clicked they used the same voice actor than the one that does all of Schwarzenegger roles for Bato. Took the username on irc (yeah I know, old) as a joke and it stuck.

Well everyone who knows Ralph Wiggum is. I chose it as I thought back in my online gaming days it would be funny if someone was fragged by Ralph Wiggum. So I've kept it as my online handle and provides an added level of anonymity.

simon_marklar

I used simon_marklar because that's what I have used as a forum name ever since the marklar episode of southpark. its meant to represent that we are all one, yet we are all unique.

If I had not of been on auto pilot when I signed up it would of been megacron (my username on tf:earth wars), which is from TF:Prime beastwars movie where unicron reanimates megatron. I think its smokescreen who says "what is that? megacron? or unitron?"

Heh, don't worry. Before this forum existed, many OzFormers communicated on the austnet channel #transformers. :) That channel was originally owned by some other people who had NO clue what Transformers were and when myself and other OTCAers (and other Transfans) came along to the channel, it freaked them out. After many months of using their channel, we eventually convinced them to surrender ownership of that channel and they politely left.

They were basically just channel name squatting... which happened a lot on IRC. The number of times you'd join a channel under a certain name and the ChanOPs have no clue about the subject, or worse yet, they refuse to talk about that subject and kick/ban you for trying.

Death, destruction and alcohol :D
All of these things are illegal for you! :D (well, the first two are illegal for everyone :p) I'm curious to know the significance of the ._ at the end of your handle.

The best (worst) were networks with no chanserv/nickserv were being there at the right time made you an op and good luck getting rid of you then....

The ._ is due to me using this name on Instagram and Jaxius was taken by some american DJ (who i accidentally tagged once) complete asshole

Edit: In regards to Transfans, my mum calls us Trannys :(
Fun fact: In the 90s-00s there was an annual online 'awards' based on fan surveys run by a US fan known as Rob Jung (also the original keeper of the CTLP*) known as the 'Trannies.' Paulbot does something similar now (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=22291) just among us OTCAers. :) But the original Trannies was something that was available to all fans globally. It wasn't even done through an online survey site - it was just done by copying and pasting the questions and submitting your results and comments via e-mail, and Rob would even quote memorable comments (mine got in a few times ;)). It seems far too laborious to do today, but the online fandom was much smaller in the 90s and it was possible for a lone fan to manually do this.

So yeah, next time your mum says "Trannies," let her know that that's actually the name of a former fan-poll award. Transformer fans are colloquially known as "Transfans," and "Trannies" refers to something completely different within Transfandom. Oh, and something else completely different outside of Transfandom, but who cares about what Mundaners think, right?

Jung called them "Trannies" because as a portmanteau of "Transformers" and "Grammies."

Soviet Fox
4th May 2016, 08:11 PM
Back in the Dial-up days (Or T1 connection at school, handy to be onside with the IT guy) My friend and I used to log onto our friends hotmail accounts (We actually did a really good job of working out the passwords through over the shoulder glancing, the sideways "I'm not looking" look and plain old interest/birthday combo guesses.

We would then send cryptic emails from that account to a group of people in the contacts, then work on the passwords for those.

All of these emails were signed

"The Fox"

Then with the advent of LAN gaming I took up the moniker, then once Xbox Live hit I needed to add the Soviet to secure the name.

Ozgardian as in Asgard as in home of the norse gods. Love norse mythology! Obviously with a hint of aussie flavour being a Canberran (big fan of 'The Wizard of Oz' too).
