So last Thursday I was at my local Big W store looking to grab a Transformers: Hero-Mashers - Soundwave figure, as they're meant to be on deep discount so as to make way for new 2015 stock.

Upon arriving I notice the shelves had been rearranged and the Transformers floor stock area had been SEVERELY reduced (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=464490#post464490) and as a consequence, the figure that I was after that'd been shelfwarming for close to 6+ months had entirely vanished. :(

To say I was disappointed and kinda annoyed is putting it quite lightly; So my attention turned when I caught sight of, out of the corner of my eye, a trio of boxes in amongst the TMNT shelves & pegs that I thought too good to be true! :o

I turned and bee-lined for said shelf and to my astonishment & amazement there lay 3x (2014/15) Reissue '80s TMNT Party Vans!!!! :D

I couldn't believe my luck as these were only available at this particular chain for a limited time leading up to last year's Xmas Toy Sales (Or is that just the Mid-Year? :confused:) in May/June, costing $60 and by the time I got to my local they were flying off the shelves and I missed out. :?
(Had one in my hands but had to put it back owing to space & finances at the time :o)

I was determined to not let history repeat itself as I had wanted one of these toys since about '89/'90 (4 or 5y/o :P) and had never had an opportunity to own one in the 23 years after its initial release, so you can imagine how quickly I grabbed one and hit-up a scanner to see if they too were being discounted (Seeing as though they were likely old stock from storage)...

$30! :D

I'm so amazingly chuffed with this! - Even though the OG Turtles (Not Reissues ;)) are somewhat of a pain to decently position within it, I've gotta admit I got quite a bit childishly happy when they were all in & cruisin' in the Party Van, even more so when they met up with the NickToons Turtles, who jumped in to bust some shell! :D

Does it feel cheaply made or is it nice and sturdy. I ask as i'm sure the plastic composition has changed since 89 and i believe the plastic these days is thinner and less durable.

I saw those reissue TMNT in my local Big W a couple of months ago for $12 each. I was so tempted as I was a huge fan back in the day but I only ever bought Raph. Long story short, I passed on them which I now regret. Nice score Hursti :)

You're right to be sceptical SB, dude, especially with regards to the Reissue stuff as I'll go into a little further in answer to 5FDP's comments. ;):)

Unlike the Reissue Turtles themselves, this feels really quite solid indeed; The build quality seems very much on-par with that of the Accessories/Playsets Playmates was putting out back in the day, right down to the 2 steel rods/axles used - Such a nostalgic bit of engineering in of themselves! :D

I've given it a good going over, everywhere that needs to be thick is thick but sadly there has been no attempt to improve upon the design however - The little latch that holds the fling-out seat (Located in the ceiling of the Van, that passes through the top cross-member just behind the Driver's Seat/B-Pillar) is still thinner than I'd like it and I worry that after heavy use this will crack/stress and cause the seat to always fling out?... :o

The only other parts I'd raise as potentially problematic is the clips on either side of the Blast-guard that folds down over the front windshield; As soon as I popped these over the stalks that hold the Blast-guard in place, the clips immediately grew stress marks - I think these would break long before the above mentioned clip but really, I think it all comes down to how often/heavily you're going to muck around with the thing. ;):)

I better note that there are 4 sticker omissions with the Reissue (1 on the Fling-out door, the 2 Bombs & just at the base of the central laser atop the Blast-guard), along with all stickers being factory applied as opposed to sticking them on yourself as with the original. :o

I'd definitely recommend it however, so much easier than trying to get a good conditioned original with all it's parts; Best of all? - It's brand new and packaged in a near complete replica box! :cool::D
(It's housed in a plastic clamshell too, I assume the original was a foam insert ;))

Raph's Sai is ever so slightly off-colour & Donnie's belt was noticeably tighter too, owing to the downsizing of the Reissue; I also had to use a Yellow Highlighter to get the rich hue back (https://instagram.com/p/vu81FOE1iY/) into his Belt-buckle's "D" initial which worked REALLY well if I say so myself. :D

So you probably dodged a bullet there man, I'd say if you really want a set of the original TMNT figures? - Definitely buy the OG Brothers Green toys, may cost a little more but the quality speaks perfectly to the old adage: "They sure don't make 'em like they used to...". :cool:

Thanks for the insight Hursti. Reading some of that information definitely makes me feel better on missing out on these. I was actually only going to buy Mikey, Leo, and Donny and pair them up with my original Raph. I now know that they would have looked very out-of-place. You're absolutely right in saying they don't make things like they used to.

^^ Oh what I wouldn't give for a Dino-Riders reissue...I had the T-rex as a kid, but of course the armour is long gone. I would buy a reissue T-rex on sight, and I'd be very tempted to collect the whole line (including as many extra Rulon/Valorian figures as needed to man the dinosaurs) if I could afford it.:o

Anyway, I went out TF hunting today, and while it was a bit of a bust on the Transformers count I did manage to score:
A Kaiyodo Mass Production Evangelion (the sans-wings version). 2 more of these guys, and 2-3 more of the winged variety, and I've got a full original-series set.:D
Then I just need space to put them, and to do them justice...
2x Revoltech Patlabors - a Movie Version Ingram 1, and a Type Zero.
A Revoltech Protect Gear "Red Spectacles" figure - a present for one of my best friends back in Oz.

^^ Speaking of dino riders! You'll prob hate me for this, but this just arrived last night, like you I always wanted it as a Kid as well. I only had two of the smaller dinos.

It's not complete, grey guns abit yellowed (missing the brain box and the 3 figures and their accessories) but its boxed and the styrofoam is in very good condition with no chucks taken out of it

and i got it for a steal $50 delivered

anyone got any spare parts for it? :)

Today I picked up another Revoltech Patlabor, a Type 2 this time. I saw it in a local hobby shop 2 days ago but passed on it, but since I've got the other 2 I figured why not? Would have preferred a Movie version, but it's close enough.

Then I noticed the shop had a loose NECA Alien Queen - as in, the ginormous one (http://i.imgur.com/KT0XcQY.jpg) from late last year - in the display case, and it looked huge and amazing so I got that too.
I have so little self-control sometimes...:o

EDIT - found a Fraulein Evangelion Asuka for a friend, as well as a resealed Figma Mikuru Asahina, which is apparently a character from one of the many, many manga/anime franchises I don't know and/or care about. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya if anyone's interested.
What I do know is, she was all of ~$9, and I now have another victim character for my Aliens hive. It's really hard finding affordable figures who can pull off a "vainly attempting to ward off a facehugger" pose who aren't overtly hentai-y.

Not that Aliens is really "family-friendly" when you get down to it either mind you...

I have only just learnt about Zybots tonight after watching a Robot Chicken clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT7K-wY-GgY).

Turns out I had the blue car one as a child. It was incomplete, at least one limb missing I think, and I think some other kid as school gave it to me.

For some reason I'd always assumed it was a Machine Man toy, and possibly part of Puzzler, but now some 30 years later I know it's story!

I might get the Saberstone and Spearhead (the only two normal figures in series three)if I come across them at the right price but I am happy to have a complete S1 and S2. Plus they fit in the Star Wars figure case nicely so I can fill in the remaining cabinet compartments.
Weapons would be nice but I don't know where to get them at a decent price.

Got a Rockasaur in the lot as well but I am only collecting the normal figures so its for sale in my FS thread if anyone is interested.

Batman: The Animated Series Batman (1992 version) 6" figure. Here's hoping the joints aren't as fragile as the reviews say they are.

You should be all good, by the time they got to TAS Batman they'd more or less sorted out the joints issue except possibly on the tiny female joints. All the worst ones have the visible/uncovered joint pegs - maybe the first wave and a half. The biggest issue to watch out for is ability to stand level. They do seem to have a QC problem attaching the legs on these figures at the same height. My TAS Mad Hatter has it slightly and my first New Adventures Batman has one leg dramatically shorter than the other.

Anyway, he's a nice pickup. :) Pretty much the best in the line so far (as he should be), along with TAS Penguin & Joker.

The figure is slightly taller (with the 'ears') than the Black Series 6 inch Biker Scout. In the packaging the right leg seems slightly longer than the left. With a bit of posing it probably won't be as noticeable. Batman is still in the packaging :eek:

The sculptors have managed to capture the style of the animated series extremely well. The paint apps are very tidy. Batman's face/mask is slightly different to the one in the prototype shots. The eyes are smaller on the production figure but it doesn't bother me.

I had been waiting to order the figure from Amazon. Unfortunately it has only been available through secondary vendors to be 'fulfilled by Amazon' and because of that cannot be shipped to Australia. I ended up getting a games/comics/specialty store to order it in. :)

Rather less than I'd like.:( There's room for a reasonable amount of assorted plastic-and/or-metal geekery, but nowhere near all of what I've managed to acquire. I actually could display it if I really, really wanted to, but not in such a way as to do it justice.
That and my current job has a rapidly-approaching time limit :( , so I'm not sure how much longer I'll still be able to live at my current apartment :(:( , so it seems better to keep him(?) nice and safe in his box rather than get him out only to have to pack him up and move him somewhere else in ~4 months time.

One day, though...one day...I shall have my mancave and it will be awesome.:cool:

With one of the photographs of Fortress Maximus in Myer Perth (I think that was Sharky's pic) I noticed Ghostbusters figures on the shelf above and deduced they were the US Walmart exclusive Ghostbusters Classics (re-releases of the Matty Collector 2-packs that were originally going to be sold with the Ecto-1 that never made it to production along with a new BAF (the no ghost logo).

Kindly asked the wife to hit Myer in the morning and she snapped up all four figures. There's only 6 figures to a box (a set of four and two extras) so I was super lucky!

I love the old TMNT toys. Such a fun toy line. The variants had so many cool ones like the Universal Monsters TMNT, that was one of my favourite, but I've never actually seen them.

Speaking of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, my set of four Walmart exclusive TMNT Secret of the Ooze Classic Collection figures arrived!

Besides the lack of stands (a standard with every other Classic Collection release), they're great. A little different in colour from the 1990 TMNT movie figures released as part of the Classic Collection a couple of years ago, but the extra heads (only 1 of the 12 heads has a dodgy eye and it's the head I'm least likely to use) and accessories are neat.

They do (or did - I just went back and a guy bought the last Deadshot @ Innaloo while I was there). I personally saw Harley and Deadshot the other day (as well as SS Batman). Not sure who else was in that wave.

$25 seems to be regular price. They also have some of the BvS 6" Multiverse (Batman, Lex, Bat Creature).

If you're interested, I've got a Killer Croc BAF part if you're looking at collecting the Squad. Let me know, otherwise I'll throw it on eBay.

Captain Power was an attempt to cash in on the interactive television game market, the toys, when firing at the screen, would interact during various segments of the TV program. There were a number of Captain Power episodes released on VHS tape and one was even included with a Powerjet XT-7 Deluxe Set. The Power-On Energizer included a Captain Power figure.

The Resistance Ambush Pod Station, Anti-Personnel Patroller, (http://www.action-figures.ca/captain_power_resistance.htm) T.R.A.C. 5000 (http://www.action-figures.ca/captain_power_trac.htm), Bio Dread Armoured Destroyer (http://www.action-figures.ca/captain_power_destroyer.htm), Skybike ST-300 (http://www.action-figures.ca/captain_power_skybike.htm), Blastpak 1200 and Missile Lock Indicator (http://www.action-figures.ca/captain_power_blast_pack.htm) jet attachment were shown in the 1988 Mattel catalog and were all possibly produced in low numbers in Europe. The Blastpak 1200 and Anti-Personnel Patroller are the only ones however, that have had boxed samples surface, so the others may have been produced as well. That would make these the hardest toys to find from the line.

They only interacted with the closing credits, however you could buy completely interactive training tapes. Essentially there was an optical sensor and a lamp equipped to the bases and vehicles where the optical sensor would read certain colours on the screen, similar to the way lightguns worked on second gen consoles.

I was listening to some old tunes and just experienced the powerful link between our senses and memory. The tune was Made My Day by Tim Finn but it could have been anything. What made it a memory-jogger was it must have been playing in some department store in the 80s when I first came across and was feverishly studying the packaging for the cheap, rather derivative but strangely appealing Other World line of sword-and-sorcery toys (https://www.figurerealm.com/actionfigure?action=seriesitemlist&id=520). That song may as well be the theme tune for these toys as far as my mind is concerned. :)
