Star Convoy (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/next-encore-reissue-star-convoy/16675/)

Sorry. Twas another false alarm.

(Seibertron article was removed) UPDATE at TFW2005: The listing has removed "Encore" from its title. That along with the matching UPC number, confirms this is not a new Star Convoy but old stock of the first reissue.

thought this was reissued a couple of years back. Interesting that they're reissuing it again when the detrimental impact on price from the previous reissue is still haunting the fandom. I see the previous reissue floating around still for around $100 a pop.... very strange choice of reissue

I don't think it's a great choice either but I didn't know it was that haunting?

I hope this is limited, so they can fast forward to the next one. Very underwhelming choice. Maybe they have a few sitting around at the factory from the last reissue and will just stick them in Encore packaging

No. Different figure from a few years after God Ginrai.

Interesting choice for it to be something not from the first few years. A promising sign though for reissues of Headmasters (and Jrs) and Godmasters.

Bummer... it's just a re-release reissue. :(
I guess I'm just getting greedy after they released a number of new reissues recently (Skylynx and Omega Supreme, and some cassettes).

I think it is probably another misleading report. Cassettes 3 and Skids are already announced and the release is already ages away, people seem so jumpy about new encore.

Again?! Star Convoy's a nice toy - especially if you have Micromasters (as he transforms into a playset for them); and of course, he comes with Micromaster Hot Rod - but yeah, he's already _been_ reissued. :/ Meh... so not interested in reissues of reissues. (-_-)

They should make him different from the last reissue. Perhaps do him in original G1 toy-accurate whites instead of the silvers that the last reissue had (although the silver looks better IMO). Still wouldn't make me want this toy though. (>_>)

I don't think it's a great choice either but I didn't know it was that haunting?

example:

... it haunting because while it is good to have it available to fans at a reasonable price, I really hate to see such a classy piece be sold at fire sale prices and be totally disregarded. Like the God Ginrai reissue before it, the Star Convoy reissue for some reason, totally destroyed the back-market and retail market prices for both the vintage release and the reissue release up till today.

The pain emanating from from friends who pain-stakingly sought out and bought the vintage Star Convoy in the region of $800, is another thing that is haunting...

And if the rumours about this are true, they are about perform act two in this already sad tragedy. My, that is scary...

I don't like the re-release but I don't mind if it dilutes prices. It's sad yes but that's virtually true of a lot of G1 toys too I'm sure. Like a Ratbat would have used to cost heaps but will now be fairly cheap b/c they've re-issued the legit one. Dilution of prices is no issue to me personally as ultimately I just want the toy. It doesn't bother me though I think the quantity sitting there doing nothing will as I can see how if you have a favourite nold and then you see it shelf-warm you get a bit sad no one's sharing the love.

Though dilution of prices can be a benefit to a number of collectors (particularly those who collect everything; not just g1), business for a bucketload of people on ebay and independent websites really takes a pounding. I know of a few sellers on the bay that rely on their original g1 sales to pay the bills. Additionally, this affects heaps of 80's g1 purists by reducing the value of their collections - which I'm sure they not only treat as a hobby but as an asset as well.

Ok I'm just rambling bc I don't like encores or reissues lol, but man I hope they stick to re-releasing the japanese g1's for the next million years

I think by 1991 standards he's awesome! :) He's basically a massive Optimus Prime toy that transforms into a truck (which can roll on battery-operated treads) and also transforms into a Micromaster battle station play set which you can attach to other Micromaster playsets (e.g. stations, bases etc.)! It also comes with a Micro Trailer which can be stored inside.

Micromaster Hot Rod is a neat little figure; it's interesting to see how 1991 G1 designers have interpreted a large boxed figure from 1986 and re-engineered it as a Micromaster. Similar to how we now admire the re-engineering of larger toys into Legends, you think, "Wow, it's cool how they did that." Obviously the toy isn't as well made as contemporary legends because the toy is 18 years old now (the transformation scheme is the same as say Swindler or Blackjack) - but within the context of the time it's like comparing a large figure w/ a Legends. :)

Nah, buy a G1 Shockwave. Him and Jetfire will never be remade as encore.

There was some speculation, on fairly reasonable grounds, on the Seibertron boards a couple of years ago that Shockwave may be a potential reissue, but nothing materialised. I wouldnt be too sure that a Shockwave reissue is impossible though because a while ago, I was willing to bet my left kidney that Omega Supreme or SkyLynx would never ever get reissued too...

Ah so you were the lucky fellow that bought the local piranacon from ebay aus! I emailed the seller to let him know he had the shark dudes triple crusher cannon in his g2 devastator auction. The set was missing the claw though, which I find is a serious pain in the ass to find so it sorta killed my interest. You got this set for a bargain though! Especially considering the extras.

I'm trying to complete mine as well, so here's to us hoping they don't encore these fishies anytime soon...or EVER.
