I suggested Rampage start this topic to see if there was any interest. It isn't meant to be an alternative to the regular acquisitions topics - just an option for anyone wanting to show off their latest classic goodies (for the rest of us to drool over, and more easily introduces the newbies to the early era stuff us oldies 'take for granted').

And don't pick on people who include in a group shot, any non-Gen1 toys. As long as at least one in the pic is Gen1, that's fine.

Loving Horri-bull and Fangry. :D I especially like how Fangry has his own built in chin up bar...No excuses for being lazy when there are no Autobots around!

From Jgon...

With the arrival of his robosexual gestalt lover, Raindance, the little tank Grandslam never has to feel alone again.
And after being freed from his stasis prison, Saltman Z is ready to lead the ground forces of my tactical, Jumpstarter drone army.

Also bought heaps of weapons and accessories which completed some of my incomplete, gunless troops:D but didnt bother to shoot a pic of that.

Indeed!

How close are you from completing G1, Liege?

Close ... close hehehe. I think its only about less than 30 figs, but thats mostly micromasters and actionmasters (which Im still undecided if I should include in my definition of completing:p;))... only a few more pretenders , a headmaster Jr., gnaw, Wreckgar, one more deluxe insecticon and Im still not sure if I should get the TM variants for Scourge, Blurr et al or just leave them off which would make it even less

Man if you're thinking of tm scourge, I've seen the price on him rise so damn much in the past few months. transformerland just sold their only instock one for $215US and another for $185US few weeks ago. I'm still seeing occasional fracas-half-bodies on ebay for $70 LOL.

Getting hectic I tells ya, but man how good is the conversion rate for overseas g1 purchases right now? AUD is powering through

Just got wreck gar from the UK for dirt cheap, will have have a spare axe as well if you need that liege.

Congrats on the 30 left till g1 finish mark, you're so close! I don't think I'll get this far in a long time.

Thanks. Hmm with that in mind I might just skip altogether the TM versions of Scourge, Kup, Blurr et al. Ive already got the original non TM versions anyway.... Sigh all the ones left to collect are really either hard to find (complete or otherwise)or too darn expensive :( UK is an untapped proving grounds for me, it seems the most likely place I might find my remaining G1s to collect.

Really? I remember Kup being a serious shelfwarmer back in 1986. I remember that stores were slashing the prices of Kup to get rid of them and my mum bought like half a dozen of them - one for me, one for my brother and the others got given away as gifts for the next year or so!

That Japanese box interests me more than the toy. :p

heheh I know that feeling... good thing I bought mine when it was well about a year and a half before the rumours of KO swoop started cropping about. Bu then, mine was a private sale ( heaps pricy too) from a seller I was regularly buying from. I actually got 3 of my dinobots form the same guy, wheeljack as well as Scorponok...and some of my lesser G1 figures. Lol where did you get Barneybot from lol? The different coloured ones I find funny but I hate the ones who try to pass of the HQ fakes as legit G1

From here. One of the more inactive members were selling some on ebay... since I couldnt afford the original ones before Iopted for em sort of as placers in my collection. They also served as practice bots - since I didnt wanna break the originals when I had them so i practiced first on these to find how they be transfromed efficiently. Unfortunately they're pretty easy to break:D:o except for Grimy and Sludge. But Snarl and Slag well, they didnt last more than a week.

I finally got myself a red-footed G1 Optimus Prime.

I've been after one of these for years. The Trailer is stamped made in France.

This is great. Was it complete? Did it come from the UK?

This was my first transformer ever and it didn't make the journey even nearly as well as yours...

I want that trailer! I only have the reissue of Action Master Prime, which does have much nicer colours than the original, but sadly didn't come with a trailer. Which is annoying because Takara does still have the mould to that trailer as they repainted and reused it for Microman!! Grrr!

I have the trailer - IMO it is the best Action Master vehicle.

Good:
- The truck as you can see is awesome and satisfyingly large.
- The jetmode is great and despite a simple transformation from cab mode it looks satisfyingly different.
- The trailer base mode works more as a defensive barrier than a base but the gun emplacements, size and play value with other AMs is very good.

The bad (this one is actually pretty bad):
- The little round pegs scattered throughout the surface of the toy in every mode are too large for them to fit in standard AM feet holes. It works fine with Prime's but not any of the others.

Yes, it was from the UK. Nearly complete, just missing Roller's hose. Now I just need the Milton Bradley box to put it in !

It's a bit worn, with some chipping and wear on the paint, the stickers aren't the best, but still good overall.

Jap Takara Book re-issue

C'est magnifique! I need to buy a G1 Blaster also as my Autobot cassettes aren't very happy with me about their current sleeping arrangements (they've had to make cardboard box homes from their encore packaging). Might I inquire as to how much said item costs these days? I think I paid around $80 for Encore Soundwave quite a while ago now (from a comic store in Canberra - quite a bit silly in hindsight as you can get the original for similar prices online and at the time I didn't realise the play, rec, ffw etc. buttons were a lot nicer on the G1 toy).

Not really. griffin has already previously stated that as long as the pic includes at least one original G1 toy then it's okay for this thread. :)

And don't pick on people who include in a group shot, any non-Gen1 toys. As long as at least one in the pic is Gen1, that's fine.

Here's some Ye Olde photos of my G1 collection; taken way back in February! They're mostly original G1s but I have reissues and e-Hobbies mixed in there.
(multiple pics here)

Please keep full collection posting to the section that accomodates it (Grapple's section), so that this topic can used to show off recent acquisitions and for the newer collectors to show off their budding Gen1 collections. If they see an entire collection posted, they may well feel, what's the point of showing off theirs? It just spoils the fun of the new generation who should be entitled to the same chance we had at expressing enthusiastically, new Gen1 purchases.

OMG I'd do anything to buy your snaptrap shield! My piranacon looks yuck without his chest, it's like a boggle head thing.

Please refrain from repetedly chasing up people who post pics of their collections, to sell you things you want. These aren't sales topics, so don't harass them.

erm so this thread will now be not just a G1 acquisitions thread is it? We can now also showcase out our G1 shelves collection? Just to clarify...:)

See above. If you have been collecting Gen1 for a while and have a fairly big collection, show it off in the Collections section of the board. Just show off newly purchased stuff here. If you are new to collecting Gen1, then this topic is your opportunity to show off your exciting new 'classic' TFs collection.

As I've mentioned to liegeprime, I recently acquired a number of Targetmasters and Headmasters MIB, with inserts and minty fresh. This is the first of them...

My favourite '87 Decepticon Targetmaster Misfire!

Wow. My jaw literally dropped open and I started drooling. I didn't realise that happened in real life. :D

(Note to self: subconscious wants a MIB Misfire. ;) Very nice purchase HD.)

Thanks Kup. I really like the Decepticon Targetmasters, its a pity, really, that the three of them a such dorks according to their tech specs. It's true also that they are so much more expensive than their Autobot counterparts; Sureshot and Crosshairs seem to be cheap as chips while these guys command a much higher price.

Below is Triggerhappy (obtained from same lot of Misfire). Triggerhappy is actually not sealed to the bubble, but somehow opened so expertly that he still appears sealed. He was not opened by me Sky Shadow, if not I would be posting it in your G1 opening thread!

Glad I got Misfire and the rest of my TM Deceptijets for cheap price way back then:D:D. Of course my Misfire has a loose left hip & knee joint but stands still perfectly, also previous owner broke the TM partner by the hip bend and stuck it together with crazy glue. Imanaged to unglue it but yeah quite broken. No matter, I have bought from broken arrows the TM partners and works just fine and oh so much cheaper... good thing Im not so strict in that factor of my collecting. They all do need a bit of Reprolabel magic hehehe

These are G1 Abominus complete, Headmaster Horribul (no head) this guy reminds me of the dog creatures from ghostbusters!, Headmaster Squeezyplay (no head). And a Seacon, can't remember his name at the moment. Anyway these guys have a theme, they all have monster alt modes.

GoktimusPrime

Dice-based combat games usually work by trying to roll high numbers on dice. So Dinobot was making some kind of defensive or evasive roll and he rolled a 1 which is typically considered to be a "natural fail" and often incurs heavier than usual penalties, like negative modifiers, or in Dinobot's case a kick to the janglies. ;)

A very nice condition Chromedome, HD. I've never owned a full-sized one (just the Junior version, which may be a more appropriate size for the toy's relative lack of complexity, and it has a die-cast chest [but I still think I'd rather have a 'senior' version.]) Also, re: what you say in your blog:

I was, and still is, curious as to why he is called 'Chromedome'. I didn't, and still don't, think that it bears any correlation to his character design, alternate mode, tech specs or his profile. The name seems pretty out of the blue, almost as much as the name 'Highbrow' is out of the blue for Highbrow.

I actually think Highbrow makes way more sense than Chromedome for the character and toy. Highbrow thinks "warfare is barbaric" and "primitive", he talks "endlessly. Uses big words no one else understands. A self-righteous snob". This is what highbrow people do. He thinks he's above everyone else, plus he's a helicopter, so he's metaphorically and literally higher than most of the other Autobots too.

Chromedome - on the other hand - literally has a chrome 'dome' - a metal head. Like most of the 1987 Headmasters it's a 'head' reference/pun (Highbrow, Hardhead, Brainstorm, Mindwipe, Skullcruncher, Apeface, Cerebros et al.)

Yeah, Sideswipe is supposed to be the Yellow Lambo, which ended up as Sunstreaker, and Sunstreaker was supposed to be the red one.

Kind of - they were the right colours, but the wrong moulds. Budiansky was working off the equivalents of these two Diaclone toys, but then Hasbro switched the colours for Transformers, making everything confusing and nonsensical:

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/740/spinoutandsideswipe.jpg

The 'real' Sunstreaker and Sideswipe (Sunstreaker/Spin-Out is the pretty yellow one on the left with the "right shoulder-mounted, laser-guided, ground-to-air missile launcher" and "electron-pulse gun". Sideswipe's the red one on the right with a "rocket backpack", "piledriver" arms, "shoulder-mounted magnesium phosphorous flares" and whose design "is spoiled by the rear-mounted engine in his automobile mode". :))

Anything I get that is vintage I'll take off everything :p Everyone of them are like a 9 other than Minswipe which has more scratches on the plastic but it cleaned up real good :)

I find g1 figures without stickers to be very naked and a little dull, but I guess it comes down to the collector and their own preference :D

hd, I don't think I've ever seen a mib weirdwolf go for the right price on ebay :p

Transformerland regularly have updates with heaps of g1 boxes in pretty good nick, especially the 87 headmaster series. Perhaps buying the complete figure + box separately would be more viable for the leather cash holder.

Though the tfland boxes don't come with the plastic blister insert..

yup I do, I put it there :D. I got the helmet/backpack and the rocket separate at Parramatta fair, since I cant find their corresponding parts ... yet, and they match anyways - peg to hole sizewise, so I ended up with a mishmash backpack droid for tracks instead, now Im just looking for another rocket thingie and it'll be complete, albeit incorrect heheheh.:D

I know what you mean. This dit138 guy seems to have a lot of TF Boxes that I would like, but the price is simply too high.

And one concrete rule I've always stuck by since 2000 and which has done me well is this: I won't buy from so called 'professional sellers'.

(1) they just don't care about you;
(2) they hardly care about what they are selling (and this often translates into lousy packing);
(3) they take forever to respond (as you've experienced); and
(4) the 'complete' figures they sell are usually slapped together with a mish-mash of parts from different toys (but of the same figure) to make it complete.

I would always rather buy from people who are selling their childhood collection. Much friendlier to deal with and faster response- and they do still care.

So I just avoid people like dit138 and even Wheeljackslab (I bought from him many times in 1999), and in doing that, also avoid all their silly rules and quirkiness.

That dealer doesn't respond to any messages, which sucked, because he had a red Slag for ages (and heaps of accessories I need), and I really wanted it. If he at least had responded to say definitely no, I would have asked to get them posted to an American address. But his rudeness at ignoring my messages cost him a heap of sales.

.... on the other hand, paid a more than 'reasonable' sum of AU$63 for this because the seller thought its worth very little due to it having no paper work and being 'incomplete' (I actually found all the weapons stowed away on the underside of the plastic tray; the seller obviously didn't even open to check)

Man, MIB stuff in that condition (box and figure @_@) must cost you a fortune. Especially considering you seem to only buy sets with the bubble inserts. Must say, that snaptrap box looks pretty sharp. My old snaptrap box looked like it'd been up somebody's ass for a prolonged period of time.

Damn man. Looking at your photos hd, makes me wanna start buying the g1 boxes again. Maybe I'll start with the predacons or the gestalt team leaders.

The Snaptrap box is pretty pristine. I myself was surprised at how close to MISB C10 it actually is. The auction pictures definitely didn't do that Seacon set justice and they look a lot better in real life than on the photos...

Yeah, that one is pretty rare (G1 Canadian Slag). I remember trying to get an incomplete one about a year back and the bidding went up to $250+. Hard to justify that to myself for a Slag unless he also comes with Canadian box.

Still, I have a diaclone Slag and could swap the white upper legs over to a G1 Slag. All that remains then would be to paint the head orange and then I'll have a cartoon accurate Slag. That's if I can airbrush/spray paint to save my life.

Maybe I'll start with the predacons or the gestalt team leaders.

I'd vote for getting the Predacons in box! Would probably be the most satisfying. For some reason, the gestalt team leaders in box are notoriously expensive (notably Motormaster) and its also less satisfying to have the team leader in box and not also have the other 4 members MOSC or on card at least. All in all, Predacons would be good since all 5 have their own box.

And I think US boxed Predacons are now relatively cheaper than they used to be because of the Predaking giftset reissue.

I concur, the gestalt team leaders are pretty expensive MIB. I don't see boxed motormasters very often either, but then again I havent really been looking.

Owning the US boxes for the predacons would be awesome on display - but I already have the complete loose set (not to mention all the loose gestalt team leaders). Finding the boxes (on their own) in displayable condition would be a relatively difficult task.

I've been meaning to get my camera out and take some snaps of my tm hotrod for this showcase thread. It's so damn mint. No time though. Keep those photos coming hd

yes! hahaha...

It's my last big push before I slow down on TFs again (which I did last year from around Feb till this year Aug). I gotta be honest and say sifting through eBay on a daily basis is not my idea of a nice way to pass time. It is just horrible and it takes so much time that I'd rather spend doing something else.

Flippin' fantastic, HD! I bet you spent quite a bit in '09 but man, how can you look at all that and not think it's all so very worth it. :D

I see you have the three Autobot monsterbots in the form of Repugnus, Doublecross and Grotusque...Tracking down these fellows is my mission for 2010 (just bought a loose Repugnus off ebay - this is one bot I'm definitely displaying in his hilarious alt mode so wasn't fussed about not having the gun!).

Hmm I can't decide if I should go for these 3.... Repugnus is so freaky odd that if I get him it he taint my collection.... or at least freak out anyone who puts there face upto the windows on my cabniet!

Well, if you're as big a fan of the Decepticon Headmaster juniors as I am you'll need a similar Autobot team for them to go up against! I personally adore the G1 monsterbots so getting these guys was just a matter of time. I think Repugnus' alt mode is brilliant and bursting with character...How can you not love that face and those droopy little claws. He just wants a pat! :D

Repugnus and Grotusque are awesome toys - two of my very favourites from that era. Plus they have two of the best Universe profiles. For some inexplicable reason, complete Repugnuses or (Repugnus guns, at least) are almost impossible to find (and if anyone has one, by the way, I'll pay big bucks!)

I have always been very fond of the Monsterbots and am glad that in Maximum Dinobots, they are finally written 'into continuity' as a team that is even meaner and more outcast than the Dinobots!

Plus, Repugnus has very good articulation for a G1 toy - joints at the hips, knees, waist and reasonable arm articulation.

Yeah, I agree. Some of the prices were good and others were a little to high. 99% of their Transformers are boxed. I saw less than 10 loose pieces in total.
