 :(

Damn, just saw Griffsterooney's banner (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/member.php?u=1). I was hoping to have a very quiet run for the rest of this year but noooo! Now I'm finding I'm going to have to find another 300 figures to buy this year For the year so far I've acquired 493 TFs which I thought was a lot and was hoping to curb it back a bit. Why? Why?????? WHY????

I should add "inspired" my tailpipe! I feel like I'm being coerced into this! But I figured I wanted a nicer sounding title

Nearly every day on this board!

Sometimes a review or photo inspires me to buy a toy I wasn't going to buy.

Sometimes an comment inspires me to make a tech spec (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=1096), or a kitbash (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=3297) or a photo comic (still in progress).

And I blame was inspired by members on this board to buy 600 new toys in the last two years! :D

+1 QFT. Also, griffin has spent 25 years continuously building that collection; it's not the same when you just hop on eBay and match him in only a span of a few months. To me, griffin's collection is a testimony to his long and ongoing loyalty and consistent effort as a collector from 1984-2009. Anyone (with the available funds) can go and buy a similar amount of toys in a short span of time, but it doesn't mean the same if you didn't spend a quarter of a century doing it! :)

So when griffin looks through his collection I imagine that he would have memories of spending 25 years of being an avid fan and dedicated collector, possibly with the "Wonder Years" theme song playing in the background. :D It's not the same if you scan over that number of toys with just memories of going nuts on eBay. So IMHO griffin's collection isn't really about it's size, it's more about what it represents in terms of his devotion to this hobby. That's something money can't buy.

The journey is more important than the destination. (^_^) Just my 2c. :)

Curses, you're right! I blame everyone then! Everyone! Every single one of you munchkins! Why do this to me? Why?

You're missing the point! The point is I like Griffsterooney's idea of 2500 in 25 years. There's a certain feel about it historically (well, geekily) that I can say, hey, in the 25th year I had 2500 TFs (not all transforming, mind you but still). Now, that's what I want. :D

What I gotta figure out now is what figures I want to bring me up to that tally.

STL..i think you also got inspired by me to become partial MISB collector :D

That's partially true too. You probably even remember me not understanding it for a while why u were MISB collecting. Then I started seeing theDamned and Jaydisc's collections and I knew what you were on about.

I like commemorating specific "numbers" in my collection. For example in 2004 as my collection was approaching its 666th Transformer I really wanted to get Energon Megatron as my 666th Transformer. Unfortunately for me the toy couldn't come out soon enough so I settled for second best and got Energon Scorponok instead; so Energon Scorponok is my "devil TF."

My collection count is now on 1310 so I have 27 Transformers to go before I hit my 1337th Transformer, so I'm thinking about which TF I should get as my "1337" ("leet") Transformer. When Animated came out I was thinking about Perceptor, but now that looks unlikely so I'm rethinking. Scalpel perhaps - but not sure if I can wait that long... if I see a Scalpel toy I'll buy it straight away! Unless I refuse to open it until after my 1336th Transformer and count it that way! :p

Sigh. Admittedly when I first saw Griff collection in the past 2006 Toy fair at Wharf 8 - it inspired me to get G1 complete - well to my degree of definition of complete, and why wouldnt I? its pretty impressive for someone who at that time had but 125 figures miles away in Philippines. :D
That's me ogling in the corner of the picture there - very first one to enter the event, came quite early they were still setting things up so I just had brekkie first at a Donut shop til these guys were ready... I still keep that VHS giveaway ( even though it aint playing right) at the door I got :D
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb313/liegeprime/otc2006_04.jpg

it inspired me to try to complete G1 rather than just get the figures I wanted which was how i was collecting then. Some figures I found ugly before all seemed flawless to me after that... e.g pretenders

I was keeping a spreadsheet thinking of semi celebrating my 1000th figure, but much to my dismay as there are days I buy, buy and buy, then forget to update accordingly ASAP. As of now Im 50+ figures above 1000th and so missed which 1 was my thousandth figure:(:(

So far Im influenced more on just G1 though, the other series so far I keep my former ways of collecting what I like and not getting every single figure.:D

A friend on LJ was gushing about how much she wanted the Animated Jet Twins. If it weren't for her general enthusiasm regarding them, I wouldn't have picked them up.

Also, dirge selling Universe Triceradon inspired me to buy it, if that counts. :P

This thread inspired me to fill in the gaps in my TF spreadsheet to work out exactly how many TFs I have.....
And the answer is 999!
I'll hit and pass 1000 in the next few days! :D :D

Looks like we're on a collision course with destiny!

And u know what's worse? Ever since Griffsterooney's banner about 25 years, I've been thinking about all the ways I can try and celebrate the 25th anniversary.

One idea I had was to go and buy 25 toys that are my favourite 25 toys again and then set aside a display for them to call it my 25th Anniversary display.

(And no, I'm not trying to find more excuses to buy duplicates!)

Well, maybe...

The trick is to get one toy from each of the 25 years. (Which was a discussion topic I was thinking about posting at some stage if I could work out what mine would be...)

I hate you.

I really do.

Well, on the bright side, at least now I have an idea how I'm at least gonna make 25 of that gap to 2500.

And start the thread while you're at it, Impulse.

Actually I gotta give a bit of credit to the egomaniac, STL. When I started collecting again in late '07, I only intended to get movie cast, but I saw a Classics Jetfire and thought it was rare so grabbed it thinking someone here would want it. STL convinced me to keep it and open it. I've had a [non-sexual] crush on Classics Jetfire since. :p

I have also been inspired to do things from this board both directly and indirectly but when it comes to being inspired at matching someone else's collection count? Never.

I will never reach the same amount as Griffin's even if I suddently win 50 million dollars. I am not interested in collecting every toy from every line while Griffin collects all. We are different types of collectors with different goals and viewpoints.

Hehehe dunno if it's a good or bad thing.. but to:

- Icy(Bro) for making me a mostly MISB Collector!
- STL for making me buy doubles! Just the extra one to open!
- theDamned for "teaching" me how to stick TFs on the wall! :)
- JayDisc for making me crave Botcon Games of Deception Set and now other Botcon sets as well (or maybe I was just trying to use him as an excuse. :D:o)

i've got to thank to the regular post of acquisitions and especially collection pics of fans that made me buy what i mostly have today especially when i had no urge to even get Star Wars or even Marvel Transformers... followed by other merchandises :D

Got to also thank most Melbourne fans here (jay, STL, Demonac, TheDirtyDigger, Paulbot, JuzMel, lhec, blackie, Golden Phoenix) for being great buddies, not forgetting people from other states like (liegeprime, kup, dirge, griffin and Kyle) too for helping me acquire some of my most precious collections.

Lastly, i was also inspired by my childhood friend (Max) whom i guess have stopped collecting TFs due to a change of hobby and love for his car in Singapore more than anything.

Yeah, some good reminders here.

A tip of my hat (or a wag of my finger :D) to The Damned, Iceburn, Mel and Heroic for giving me my appreciation of packaging.

Also, similar to Mel, I thank Dirge for my motivation to acquire Games of Deception and my future desire to own LioKaiser

And to Tober for revealing to me the Japanese Dino cassettes.
