Fingernail polish on Transformers

What colour is best for a good night on the town?

...seriously, I've used some clear polish to tighten up some of the loose joints on my Micromasters and my son's legends Sunstorm.
It has worked well but before I start on larger (and more expensive items), does anyone know if there are long term effects?
