What's the style of your toy display?

Do you like having one of those overcrowded, messy shelves that are choked full of figures?

What about the toy store style, with MISB display pieces neatly stacked side by side in all their pristine minty goodnes?

Or perhaps, you might be like me, subscribing to the school of the minimalist, opting for an uncluttered ikea glass cabinet with only 3 toys on display.

Personally, I like having 2-3 select pieces on display. Usually they are pretty big pieces (e.g. masterpieces or 1/6 scale figures, polystone statues). The big "play value" I get out of my collection is when I switch out those toys on display and replace them with those that are packed away.

So what's your personal style? Discuss.

To be honest, If had 8 TFs, that's probably what I'd do too; it sounds like you've usually got about 50% of your collection on display, and rotations are easy to manage.

Once you get up to 1000+, that strategy starts to have it's limitations. I'd have like 99.8% of my toys boxed up. In a lot of boxes. :)

Mine's pretty easy seeing as I've only recently started collecting and only have 50 or so... everything's on display in glass cabinets neatly. :D

I get what figures I like, but that happens to be a fair lot of them
As such, I have run out of room. Some figures are officially displayed on the ground in front of the shelves.
On the shelves it is standing room only. They are displayed in a style jaydisc would call "Crowded Elevator"

Mine's a jungle, but it's an organised jungle. I have all my toys on display - I don't like having any toys in storage because I love playing with them. The main reason why I started displaying toys in the first place as a kid is because I wanted my Transformers to be easily accessible for play, rather than having to rummage through a toybox to find them.

I organise them in order of series, which is roughly chronological. It starts from 1984 Autobots and goes year by year until my Animated Decepticon shelf.
Photos here (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=394) (at least, that's what my collection looked like in February :p)

I like that description. :) But I prefer to say "crowded lift." :D

Minimalist

Arranging TF's is an art like Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arranging), I like to make my displays a real visual treat instead of a chaotic family photograph.

Jungle.
Overflowing display cabinet, bookshelves, filing cabinet, bookcase top, ironing board AND built-in wardrobe.
My kids are hanging out for the day I do a clean out.

Jungle. orderly jungle, half of em, well the G1, G2 MPs, Alts, Classic/uni 2.0. Chaotic sock em in till they puke domino effect for the rest - Unicron trilogy, BW, RiD, Animated, Universe 1.0/RM. Still they do look orderly... for me. Prolly would help if i got more shelves or if I didnt allot "special" shelves for some theme's I got. Gok can attest to that "weird" themes i tend to have... fembots shelf, Unicron's horde/minions, All primes, All Megs, All Sscreamers, minicons only, etc. Heck my g1 aint even arranged per date (chronological) If its G1 they just go in the G1 shelves doesnt matter which as long as its in the G1 shelving.:D its hard when they do go beyond 1000...

The MISB Collection is stored away, while the loose collection is an overflowing jungle.

Jungle arrangement in glass cabinets and on top of adjacent filing cabinet. I have boxed transformers sitting right up top of cabinets. All of the shelves have themes. I keep the two factions separate. I intend to have a bigger display by including a bookshelf. I will need this eventually as my collection grows. In my top shelf in wardrobe I keep more boxed transformers - which some are destined to be opened in the future.

I can't call my displays a jungle. Everything has it's place and that place changes quite often. But it's definately a long way from minimalist. One of the only rules I have with collecting toys is that everything has to be displayed. I have real trouble buying a toy to just sit in a storage box.

I used to bunch together by series and faction, arranged all pretty like in neat lines etc. Classics Autos and Cons were facing off against each other weapons drawn and so on.

But now I subscribe to the Botch-the-Crab school of TF arrangement, which can be best discribed as "all mixed up." A G1 figure beside a ROTF figure, beside a TFA, beside a BW. Decpticon beside Maximal. Robot beside an alt-mode, beside a beast mode. Some with weapons, some without.

Much the same as Botch, I find that I now pick them up more and transform them more, rather than being more worried about things like cool poses, facing-off-against-each-other arrangements, or segregation by series that influenced my TF collection before.

Only exception is G1 Dinobots who still have a shelf to themselves. :D

PS- really should post some pics one day...

My style of display has its own name, Realm of Chaos! :D

The very laws of the universe are nulled in the Realm of Chaos and Transformers regularly live in harmony with Joes, Mecha and countless other denziens of the multiverse.

I chose other as I do try to keep my display consistent but space restrictions mess it up.

I keep most of my G1s in one area and try to ashere to 'release zones' as in 1984-86 here and 1987-88 there and so forth but its a rule that I can't be strict about due to space. However I do try to keep Action Masters and and Micromasters in their own displays since those toys are don't particularly display well with others.

When it comes to Beast Wars, I use the same methods as with G1 but I try to keep all the show characters together and the none show characters separate but again not perfect due to space.

The movie figures and Titanium have their own shelves because they don't generally display well with others.

When it comes to Classics and Universe - I have a shelf for Classics Autobots and another for Classics Decepticons. By Classics I mostly mean all the figures that were either released under the Classics banner or new 'Classics 2.0' banner in Universe.

The Universe repaints representing G1 characters or within Neo G1 continuity are placed in a separate shelf.

Euros and Japanese Exclusives have their own shelf but I want to split them as its too overcrowded but I lack space to do it.

I don't have much of a display at the moment... But when I finally have time to set all my toys up, it'll be a mix. I have both Opened and MISB collections. 90% of the toys I've opened still have their original boxes or packaging. Think I'll display the toys and their boxes on separate shelves/displays.

I've voted other, since there's no "crammed into buckets" option.

The rest of the toys display is best described as "most recently purchased toys lying around".

This sums up mine nicely, except I have all my as bots. My room is a work in progress, the shelves I just put up are holding 35 bots, with another identical shelve setup happening soon for future purchases. The shelves I have atm are holding my Masterpieces, Leaders and Binaltechs, so I would get alot more than 35 on the next set of shelves.

I really love the look of MISB displays, and kudos to those who have them, but on my salary, I can only get one of each figure I want, and there's no way in hell I'm having it held prisoner =oP

I would go the jungle. I like to challenge myself and see how many I can fit in a small area. I managed to get about 20 minicons and Super-con (thats deluxe now)Optimus from Armada sitting on top of my subwoofer. I was imressed by that, but it annoyed when loud music knocked the fellas off:mad:

Now I have been experimenting using boxed ones as a background with open in the foreground. Problem is that takes up a LOT of space and I only have 1 shelf above my study desk.

When they're displayed, either crammed shelves or a desk scattering ranging from a single TF to two dozen lounging around the place.

Ideally, I'd have a wall sprouting hundreds of bits of strong plasticised wire like tendrils, and have each one wrapped securely around a TF. About the only issue then would be dusting, and a vacuum cleaner set on reverse every couple of months should take care of that.

I'd probably also have to have a bunch of little transparent cases which could be grasped by the wires and which would be good for holding tiny accessories.

As a bonus point, if the wall was in sections, each section could be moved or transported without having to detach the toys.
