Hey guys. First off, let me start by saying I GOT A JOB!!!!! Now that that's behind us, I'm in the market for a new axe.

Now, I know what brand and style of guitar I'm after. Gibson, SG. I just don't know what model to go for. I'm leaning towards an Angus Young Signature model ( http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/Angus-Young-SG.aspx ), But that's about $5000 AU, and I don't have a problem paying that, I mean... It's Angus.

But there are the cheaper alternatives, like the Gibson SG special ( http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Special-Faded.aspx ) and the SG sanded ( http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Standard.aspx ) But unlike the Angus model, and my current guitar the Epiphone G-400 SG ( http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Epiphone/G-400.aspx ) The special doesn't have the covered pickups or the hex inlays in the fret board. And the standard is really the exact same guitar as the one I already own, just $400 more expensive, but with the exception of being lighter, but not my much and the Gibson name inlay-ed into the headstock.

Congrats man. :)

Are the pick-ups (although uncovered) better quality on the Gibson Special, or Standard, compared to the Epiphone? My friend has one, and it seems to sound different.

I've got a Gibson Les Paul myself and I've customized it a bit over the years, so maybe that's an option for you...? The inlays would be harder to do, but I'm sure you could get pick-up covers. I'd rather pay more money for a great sounding guitar, and then add on/change some features.
