He's going to refund any difference. He is just making sure he lists a high shipping price so he doesn't get caught out. Packing them up nice and safely (and with full insurance and tracking - possibly even private courier) would be a bit hard to calculate until the auction ends.:)

Is this the poor guy who was sucked into paying US$27,000 for these last year from a seller who claimed it was the only set in existence then after he had handed them over said he had more sets of the same (along with Jordan from Toy Hunter also having a couple of the same set too)?

I feel really sorry for him as I don't think these will go anywhere near what he paid.
If anything, the history for this one set should set it aside from the other sets still out there in the future because of its history I guess.

I never ended up finding out what happened in the end with that saga, i'm guessing from the above posts that it has now been proven there are more than one set of these and the deceptive seller didn't refund any money to the guy he sold to.

I have personally purchased from Highprime on the TFW boards in the past and he was a pleasure to deal with. I hated seeing him taken advantage of.

SCAM WARNING!!!

This Chinese ebayer (http://www.ebay.com/sch/lay2110/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=) is selling multiple items for US$10 with free shipping, which sounds like someone has hacked their account and using it to make some quick cash and abandon the account, as it would cost more to post the items than $10, and the user has been on ebay for 10 years but doesn't really have a history of selling.

Most are KOs though, but there look to be a couple of legit items in there... so who ever is running the scam, it has to be too good to be true.
(I guess for most people, $10 isn't much to risk, which would make it a very successful scam, as a lot of people would be willing to risk it, even if they can't get it back from paypal.)

I'm a big fan of the sniping tactic and proud to admit it. One of the main advantages for me is that it will stop me from bidding higher due to the 'need to win' mentality. Yes it sounds stupid that some part of you will keep bidding out a desire to be the 'Winner' but yes that has come over me before in my younger days...

By sniping it means that I will input my max bid I am willing to make and prevents me from bidding any higher as I snipe in the last 5 seconds only. A good way of preventing me from having buyers regret. Sure I miss out on things occasionally but I am much happier missing a few than regretting how much I spent.
Revisiting the sniping topic ....

What I want to know is how a sniper knows to bid only a few cents more than the highest losing bid, especially when there is multiple snipers at play. Is there a sniping tool?

BruiseLee

There are sniping tools but I haven't used them so not sure about the few cents more bit. This may be the max bid of the winner and current lead bidder as if I'm trying to snipe at a $50 max and the current lead bidder has his max at $50.01 then he wins by 1 cent.

I'm also a fan of sniping for the reasons that Raider said.

Basically I use the rule of just putting in my max bid I'm willing to pay and adding .11 or 1.11 to the bid. Most people bid max in round numbers so if someone bids 50.00 and I bid 50.11 I'm going to win when I snipe assuming their max bid is under 50 at the time.

Just be aware that the seller notes that the Metrotitan figure and accessories are "reproduction", which would be code for Knock Off.
Metrotitan KOs were done from the Metroplex KO about 7 years ago (http://news.tfw2005.com/2008/03/11/knock-off-metrotitan-to-use-metroplex-box-164406), and packed in KO Metroplex boxes (so it wasn't even in a repro Metrotitan box, and doesn't come with the Micromaster).
It is worth noting that the Metroplex box in the ebay photos (with the corner promoting a "glow in the dark sticker" bonus) was the one from the KO release. Maybe it was the mintest example of a 1986 Metroplex box that they could find for them to reproduce.

Technically, this is an accurate listing (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-VINTAGE-1994-MY-FIRST-TRANSFORMERS-RALLY-PLAYSKOOL-NEW-SEALED-MISB-/111425398905?hash=item19f178a879:m:muNtWZvO9IIwknv FdWsS9mA) of a "mint in sealed box" item, because the definition refers to the toy being mint and the box being sealed. Even though it implies that the box should also be mint, that "mint" definition is only referring to the object inside the box.

The other amusing thing about this listing is that it is by a Greek ebayer who is selling all three of those "Gen1" Playskool bots, of varying degrees of packaging (one is great (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-VINTAGE-1994-MY-FIRST-TRANSFORMERS-PLAYSKOOL-NEW-SEALED-MISB-/121347504065?hash=item1c40dff7c1:g:BsoAAOxyBPZTfim v), one is sun-faded (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-VINTAGE-1994-MY-FIRST-TRANSFORMERS-TRUCK-PLAYSKOOL-NEW-SEALED-MISB-/111409354224?hash=item19f083d5f0:g:e0gAAOSw0rdTxSW 0), and the other one above is just totally trashed), all for the same price.

And if that isn't amusing already, that Greek seller is selling a Beast Wars Tripredacus set (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-1997-TRANSFORMERS-BEAST-WARS-PREDACON-TRIPREDACUS-TRIPREDATOR-NEW-MISB-/111453715494?hash=item19f328bc26:m:mOQ1VRospfFM1JP Ze9bv1AA) with really bad sun damage, but again, it is listed as MISB... which is probably correct, until the sun damage on the toys starts showing in a couple years time.

The unreleased TF3 movie Wreckers 2-pack (http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRANSFORMERS-DOTM-Autobot-Team-Racers-Topspin-and-Leadfoot-2-Pack-UNRELEASED-New-/262104845797?hash=item3d06aa8de5:g:xXUAAOSwu4BVrDQ e) (Topspin & Leadfoot) is back on ebay, for US$2,600. Judging by that price, I'd have to guess that it is the one that was on ebay a couple years ago, being flipped for a profit knowing that it is a one-of-a-kind.

Topspin looks to be identical to the regular release toy, but Leadfoot has the Target logos on it, which the regular version didn't have on it.

I love cels and have a few Disney ones I collected pre-kids in storage back in Sydney however as much as this probably is authentic I don't think I could throw out that kind of money on eBay. Particularly when there is no proof or evidence of authenticity in either the photos or blurb.
Is the price realistic? I haven't priced cels in several years but it just seems a bit high...

I used to collect cels too in the past (although not for a few years, and I'm currently trying to sell my collection) but to me the price seems unrealistic. I've seen a couple of TF Movie cels go for a few thousand, but nothing this high. In saying that though, the cels I've seen haven't been of such an iconic moment/character. Not to mention this cel having 2 other fan favourite characters (with everyone seen full figured and front on) and appearing to be in good condition.

However a cel like this hasn't really been seen in the TF community in a long long time - if ever. So there isn't a lot of reference of what to start the pricing at.

My 2c :p

There could be a good reason for it...

Insurance fraud? What is PayPal's policy on insurance if the item is lost? If you are in cahoots with the purchaser... "Oh my $100,000 Limited edition super rare Thrust money box which is a one of a kind got lost in transit. PayPal give me an insurance payout." Does it even work remotely like that? or it is a money laundering method.

.

Probably nailed it there Griffin :D

Raider
2nd February 2016, 05:44 PM
I highly doubt it is money laundering. Too public and far too many records of the transactions which can be traced. The whole point of money laundering it to wash funds through a mechanism whereby the money coming back is clean and as untraceable as possible. That's what makes casinos such a great place for such things.

I watched one get passed in for under $500 on ebay last week. When I was last in Japan (2012) he was going for around $350 which to me seems reasonable for *ahem* a transforming toy fridge :D I am heading there in April so fingers crossed I will find one around that price, plus trying to find my holy grail, a grand max ;) Not asking much :p the exchange rate is still the same though

What's up with all these ridiculously priced auctions recently?

From memory there are computer programs using algorithms that set prices on large volumes of items. You will notice the seller has feedback in excess of 200k. It is all done by computer program so no one is really checking it. The parameters for the items are input then the program bases item prices off of a number of different criteria. Occasionally they get caught in a loop. If 2 programs are using each others corresponding item it can drive up the price on both items. I remember this glitch on Amazon once where a $30 book was going for over $1M from 2 sellers :p

Still a rip off, AFA graded or not, but a very nice piece, and yes, a "tad" under the money box :p:D

I saw two of these in Japan a few years ago but they were no where near that price, the VSX/Y/Z sets are so cool, Prime and Megs, Grimlock, Soundwave and Frenzy, and finally Skids, Sunstreaker and Buzzsaw (which I also saw in Japan and wish I had bought now)
I know there is a VSY set in Honkers but it is a ridiculous price and not complete, so not worth the price being asked.

It looks to apply to everything on Ebay by Target (Australia), but the email I got from them promoted toys... and unfortunately, the only Transformers toy I could find on their page was Devastator at $300 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Transformers-Generations-Combiner-Wars-Devastator-Age-8-/181997975767?hash=item2a5fecb8d7:g:ZGIAAOSwFqJWoCv f), which only brings it down to $240 with the discount (which is still $42 more expensive than BigW).

Looking at the recent auctions on eBay.com that looks to be true, however a lot of people seem to be getting around this by photoshopping the orange 'plug' onto their photos. Doesn't make sense that this guy wouldn't go that extra mile, especially considering the asking price. I know that if I'm spending 30k on a Transformer - which for the record I wouldn't, I'd want photos from every angle.

For a toy advertised at 30k I disagree. Sure, you can request extra pictures, but when time is of the essence - especially for a Buy it Now auction, and you're waiting for the seller to contact you, it's not an ideal situation. There are some helpful seller tools and suggestions (http://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/selling-on-ebay/pictures) on eBay as well ;)

This seller is pretty solid but they are purely a dealer, so it makes you wonder how much they got this for, where they got this and are there anymore!

I pretty much collect G1 like this now, but the 90's gold box and G1 box reissues are legit Hasbro items, but as a G1 collector I don't touch them anymore.
Here is a story, I spent a lot of money on a "G1" MIB Wheeljack some time ago, this was before the refund policy now in place on e-bay/paypal. All the pictures looked great and the description was very clear that it is was an original G1.
The biggest tell for the G1 boxes that they are the 90's reissues is the "made in" sentence writing on the lower part of the back of the box, it is much shorter on the Chinese versions than the original ones, this I totally missed in the pictures of this auction because the seller had deliberately made it so the writing was just out of shot, also the stamping on the figure is different which was also omitted so this seller sold very deceptively.
Anyway, I did get a refund but I had to pay for the return shipping costs to Europe. Live and learn. But to me despite it being a legit item, it wasn't legit in my collection.

This is a good place to learn about all this.... http://highendtfs.com/?q=node/15

"hot! transformers G1dinobots set Grimlock Snarl swoop slag sludge Reissue New"

says more than 29 sold and 10 left...doesn't mention KO or anything in the description, would these be legit?100% legit knock offs :p
None of these guys has been reissued, reissues are never in the same box as the original, they always have some kind of markings to distinguish them as reissues/encores.
Also the sheer amount they seem to have would have had to be a warehouse find for them to be legit, and if that was the case the TF news sites would be screaming about this for hours ;)

Shockwave repeatedly referred to as "SHARK WAVE" - did someone just write that down wrong over the phone? :P

well with the stresses some American accents put on a word like "Shock" it could sounds like "Shark"

I can just imagine someone with a Texas drawl, "This 'ere is Shaahkwave"

Doing a bit of searching today for MP's and came across this seller.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Transformers-Masterpiece-MP-10-Optimus-Prime-Convoy-EVA-Mode-Evangellion-MISB-/141924526258?hash=item210b5c68b2:g:ce4AAOSwoudW37N D

Has a lot of sought after items, but zero feedback as a seller. Just some cheap positives as a buyer which has been racked up fairly quickly. Then the seller stresses the time it will take for items to get to buyer, pretty much enough time for everyone to pay and him and then to withdraw his money and close accounts.

I could be wrong and there may be some very lucky winners out there today, but I wouldn't touch this one.

You are most likely right unfortunately. Feedback is a tough gauge as I've been recently burnt by a good feedback seller of many years who also was confirmed as legit in TFW. Reckon he may have sold his account. In this case, all positive buyer feedback within a week and an emphasis of time it takes to ship multiple times raises that red flag to full mast!

Does anyone know how long until you can withdraw the funds? I seem to have 2 weeks in my head for this.

I'm not sure with new users but with my paypal account if someone makes a payment through e-bay it is instant, I can withdraw straight away and it takes max three business days to show up in my bank account.
Even if you were a new user you could still set it all up including verification with a temporary mobile number to paypal if the system didn't take into consideration time with account.

It would be interesting to know how it is set up for new users, but to be honest there would be many out there who know how to get around it, and with this dude who sells 2 - 3K's worth of stuff in a short period you could clean up pretty easily.

Paypal introduced a new measure a little while ago for users with selling feedback under a certain amount (like 20 or something.) It wasn't based on time or amount sold. Only selling feedback. Paypal held the funds for 21 days before releasing it into the users Paypal account. There was a big uproar about it, so not sure If they back-peddled or not.

Following on from this, the person who "won" the MP10 Eva auction is a TCCA member and he apparently got a refund but the strange bit is the seller refunded the money stating that his PayPal had exceeded a limit and they could continue the transaction using another PayPal account. He wisely did not do so. Find this interesting though as this does sound dodgy but does doing a runner from one PayPal account from an eBay transaction differ from doing a runner with another PayPal account not linked to the transaction? eBay and PayPal are now separate entities so maybe easier to pull a dodgy without the eBay transaction? When I had to a claim recently it started off with PayPal but was redirected to eBay to lodge the claim.

Interesting.
In 2005, Wally Burr was selling his handful of copies for $2000, which also included the recording script and model sheets with the storyboard book.
That's a pretty good investment if they can get $16,000 just for one of those three books.
(if I had the money back in 2005 I would have bought them)

That's the person who obtained an ex-Hasbro employee's possessions a few years back (including the G2 Stunticons), so he's still trying to sell off items.

Even though there is no way to really value pre-production toys, I'd still say that AU$1300 for Tripredacus, is a bit much. There just isn't much demand for them to drive up prices... unless you are a dedicated collector of prototype toys, or you are very obsessed about that character/toy to want every version of it, including pre-production versions.

Ah, I should have clicked on the seller's other items. I was vaguely using a valuation of approx. $700 per BW-era prototype, which is actually based off the same guy's previous listings for Waspinator/Dinobot (some time last year). I have a bit of an irrational obsession with BW as it brought my interest back - the first time when I first worked out how to save/budget for the future; and a second time when I first worked out how to buy stuff from overseas on eBay and finding all the Japanese BW variations.
