If it was via auction format. Believe me, it wouldn't even reach 100 USD. I won a yellow AFA 80 Listen n' fun cliffjumper for around 80 bucks a few months back and I thought that was pushing it to be honest. The idiotic seller barely made an effort in packaging, and the whole bloody case got crushed in the post. Red or yellow not much price discrepancy, if any at all, theres a few of these pieces graded based on population reports, more competitively priced ones will show up eventually.

I agree, its hell not worth it. Its not 100% complete and for some reason it has a Takara only release Cerebros sword included with a Hasbro release box. which is a bit suss.

I don't think it's too bad (I think I paid around $90 for mine but that was quite some time ago) considering its size (it's as big as Menasor), it's a triplechanger, has two engine bots (who are damn cool in their own right) and doesn't appear on ebay complete/good nic very often at all.

I'm not an expert in the aesthetics of Dinobot knockoffs in that I've never seen one in the 'flesh', but from the description and timeworn nature it seems like a genuine Slag. That seller does tend to give ridiculously generous gradings, so I wouldn't expect it to be anything like an 'A' grade toy though. 'A' is actually a really bad grade for him, compared to the AA+, AA, M and NM of all his other auctions. 'B' for him would be a junker. He's like the high-marking teacher that all the kids want grading them at school. :p

Not the same. The Piranacon giftset is the rarest US G1 box around. King Poseidon may be the same toy, but it's all about the packaging.

I'd still say $900 is excessive though. That's the sort of price you should be paying for one with the figures inside.

Hmmm... good question. I'll try to explain why from my point of view.

The main players
There are a few main players in Singapore where Transformers are concerned. You will know them from their eBay IDs:
- anglo;
- ksgj830 (or something like that, I can never remeber); and
- transform (ebay store 'Grimlock's Paradise').

Except for Grimlock's Paradise, they each also have their own toy shops. Toy shops like vincent's collectibles, U-toys, Toy n Toys are also transformer powerhouses.

I know and met all the above (I know anglo the best), I also know that they have an almost uncanny ability to source TFs from Singapore itself, HK and Japan. They know where to find and buy things that you would never see surface on eBay until they themselves put it up.

And they have a lot of cash to buy large high quality collections (for example, anglo bought an ENTIRE MISB TF collection from a Japanese collector for a 6-figure sum, and that was just one of the many things he bought on his trip to Japan; by 'entire' I mean from 01 Convoy to the last possible piece of G1 that Takara released in Japan, all in sealed Japanese boxes - basically every toy that has a Japanese release in the Transformers Generations book).

So, why do they still have all these lying around?

(these are my reasons for thinking so, not ruling out that I could be wrong)
What they are releasing on eBay, are actually the pieces that Singaporeans either (1) don't want (because the piece is not good enough in terms of condition or completeness), or (2) its because they know eBay can fetch them a higher price.

When buying locally, Singaporeans can be incredibly picky about the condition and 'completeness' of the toy. 'Completeness' being give its own set of requirements per collector - for example, if a collector buys a G1 boxed 'movie' edition Springer, the collector wants it to be complete but also complete with the original glow in the dark movie poster it came with. If not, the collector may not buy the piece.

If look at my collection (which pales in comparison to so many others in Singapore), you'll get an idea of the level of pickiness.

In other words, a good amount of the nice TFs coming out from Singapore are probably pieces that Singaporeans don't want. Then there are those that they think too expensive and they won't buy. For example a US box Fortress Maximus for AU$720, all nice, white, complete, nice box and everything. And its sitting there cos Singaporeans won't pay for it - its 'too much to pay for a toy'. I know because I have personally seen it and see people trying to haggle it down to like AU$500. List that on eBay for BIN AU$720 and its gone in a flash.

Why has HK seemingly run dry of TFs?

I was told by numerous toy shop owners that the 'new rich' from mainland China comes down in doves and sweep them up, 'whatever the price'. And if you look at the population of China in proportion to the population of toy shops in HK, you will see why HK has since the year 2000 almost run completely dry of TFs, especially Japanese boxed one (the Chinese like these better than the US boxes).

That's a good price for a very rare toy. It's very unusual to see Guard City on eBay at all - and most of them are boxed. It looks legit as far as I can tell.

While it's a good price, it's still a lot to pay for a relatively minor repaint of Defensor.

Jumpstarters are amongst the most bootlegged Transformers (as well as having a wide variety of legally produced licencees.) There is a Diaclone Topspin that came in those colours. His reply was "good luck ever finding one of these cheaper as they will only go up in value" now he may be right in the loooooong run but about a week later i managed to score one for $70 NZD shipped to my door...
