MISB nonetheless, box arrived slightly dented in one corner, but otherwise fine... can't really complain with the price paid though! :D

Assuming that your friend bought his Overlord recently, I kind of don't agree with what you are saying. If £200 is in or around the market price, then I'd say he paid a fair price for it, because he bought it now (not 9 years ago in 2000).

Sure, with the benefit of hindsight and with you having got Overlords so relatively cheaper, you're in a position to say that, but that does not mean he overpaid by buying it at market price.

While Overlords are not as rare as Browning, Go-Shuta, Minelba, Buster or Hydra (just to cite other Masterforce characters), it is also not that common a piece. Based on the fact that it was only ever available in Japan, some Asian countries and Europe in the late 80s, it is certainly less common than other Transformers that were released in the US and (more or less) 'worldwide'.

No, the UK market price now is £180-£200 for a complete one. £250 is over the odds, but he got pulled in with all the "extras".

Also, don't forget Europe is a fairly big place, and Overlord was the "big" Transformer for the region in 1991. There were shelves and shelves of them all over the continent, massive amounts. On average I'd say you see at least 2 a week on eBay UK - I haven't seen any this week, but some weeks this year I've seen 3, 4 or even 5. I see most G2 figures with less frequency than Overlords.

hmmm... then it would depend on the condition, stickers, joints, chrome and all that. Maybe this piece your friend got is C9+ in all aspects. I'm just taking a stab here though.

I guess, what I'm trying to say is that if he values Overlord at 250 pounds, then its worth it (and he didn't pay too much for it, to him). Value as opposed to cost is a pretty subjective thing. Others may value it at less, and then others at more, but to each their own.

It's difficult to transpose our own subjective sensibilities onto the subjective value that others place on things is what I was getting at.

that's a pretty good price! Don't think the missiles are any important, just like Metroplex or Victory Leo missiles, don't actually need them for any of the modes to be honest. Your Overlord is as good as complete!

There were two sets - Goodbye Convoy and Goodbye Megatron, 'commemorating' the departure of the two 'classic' leaders.
Released in Japane in 1986, to coincide with the movie.

GiG Trasformers generally had different names to their US counterparts. With hindsight, some of the names are very interesting - for example Bruticus's name is Multiforce and Headstrong is Rinox (so you can get a boxed G1 rhino with a Beast Warsesque name). For people who like Machine Men, Swindle is Crasher, Onslaught is Destroyer and Wheelie is Scooter (bizarrely Wheelie and Scooter were also respectively voted the most annoying G1 Transformer and GoBot and both were voiced by Frank Welker. Spooky.) Groove is Chips (he resembles the motorbike from that TV show). GiG also liked animal names: Jazz is Tigre, Hoist is Bufalo, Dead End is Cobra, Drag Strip's Iguana and Motormaster is Barracuda. And they even had Ozformer tributes: Wideload is Rollerbot and Hun-Grrr is Grifobot. :p

Some of the other clever and intriguing names included:

Yeah they have been up for weeks. Will probably continue too, they look awful.. especially those discoloured lego blocks on Jetfire for $350 [cough]

I unknowingly bought the Scorponok instruction sheet from one of these chinese sellers years ago. Very high quality reprint, definately a knock off. Looks genuine, but they feel nitty gritty bc of the fresh print ink. For $50US, you're better off getting an original fort max booklet somewhere else.

I managed to snag a new MP04 (prime w/trailer) off ebay this evening which I'm pretty excited about. It's sitting on two potential KO's G1 Devvy giftset + Mirage. I don't think a high quality KO of nightbeat has been released yet. This must be one of the hundreds of MISB ones found in that random warehouse. Could be an official chinese reissue from the early 90's though.

I missed out on Metalhawk by 1.31 Euro (the bidder above me's highest bid was 120 Euro, which I knew, since my bid of 118.69 rounded up to 120 rather than 120.19) I probably should have remembered to bid the extra 1.50 Euro to win him late last night/early this morning, but the feedback on the seller seemed a bit dodgy (eBay warned me twice [in Spanish] on two consecutive screens, asking me to confirm whether I was absolutely sure about bidding on anything by that seller when I tried to bid - I'd never seen that happen before). Also, I wasn't convinced that it was truly a C-9.5 toy and I get crankily disappointed when I buy a toy only to find that it doesn't live up to its blurb.

I missed out on Overlord by 100 Euros, but that was more a well-if-I-get-an-Overlord-for-160-Euros-I'll-be-laughing bid. :)

Yeah, but I wouldn't trust him, especially on such an expensive item.
From my own experiance, buying 5 items that were listed as 'good condition' with no damage listed, 4 had damage (3 had significant damage).
He charges heaps for broken items, that he misleads by not disclosing any damage in the listing (I still have the proof on file).

I just wouldn't risk 2-3 thousand dollars on someone who sells smaller items deceptively.

There's not really anything "apparent" about it. It's what he says it is. Which is, admittedly, somewhat vague. The best description would a mock-up.

FYI, the seller is quite probably the most knowledgeable guy in the UK, if not the world, about G1. I got to see a lot of his collection years ago and it was obscene. Every US G1 MI(S)B? Check. All the later-years Japanese figures MI(S)B? Check. White headmaster heads? Yep. Hardcopy Astrotrain as seen in the 1985 catalogue? Better believe it. Resin G1 prototypes, loads of original Marvel UK/US artwork, animation cels, original proofs of G1 box art, European, Mexican and South American variants, Action Master elite prototypes.. I know a lot of it has been sold over the last few years both privately and on eBay, but he must still have far more. Suffice to say, if he says it's from a Hasbro employee, it's from a Hasbro employee.

Although you can never tell with these things if it's an item of actual significance or it's something an employee slapped together to sell to a collector with a made up story.
