Okay so my wife and I found out that we were having a boy. We are both really happy but we can't agree on a boys name.

So I am asking for suggestions. Serious suggestions please. I get (and have tried) all the TF references and they don't work. So hopefully someone here can come up with a name that we'll both like:)

...and no we will not name him Grant:p

Arvin - meaning friend of all

Yeah something with a passive meaning would be good. Our first son is named Marcus (comes from Mars- God of War) Aidan (meaning- little fiery one). I don't think I've ever met someone more appropriately named:p

Stuart - meaning 'he whose penis is mighty and wrathful'.

Seth - the third child of Adam and Eve. The child born to inherit the Earth.

When we had our baby we had no idea what the sex was so we had both a boy's and girl's name. Turned out to be a girl so we named her Yuki (愉希), but if it had been a boy we would've called him "Hirofumi" (宏文; though we would just call him "Hiro" for short). 'Hiro' means "greatness" and 'fumi' means "literature" or "culture." :)

Stuart - meaning 'he whose penis is mighty and wrathful'.
According to babynames.com it's Scottish for "steward". I can imagine you serving drinks and food and saying, "look no hands!" :D

Great Name.

Paul is Latin for "small." :) reference (http://www.babynames.com/name/PAUL)

That Baby names search seems very innacurate when it comes to name origins. I searched a few names (such as my own) in it and instead of the real origin, you get the place where its most commonly used instead. My name is biblical therefore Hebrew in origin.

Yeah. It also contradicts the meaning and origin of my mundane name too (which I hate and I do wish some people would stop calling me by it IRL)

There's also this site (http://www.behindthename.com/). My wife and I used several different sites when researching names actually. Took us _months_ of searching and debating too. (-_-)

Anyway, according to behindthename:
+ Paul = (Paulus) Latin for small or humble
+ Stuart = Scottish for steward (as in the Steward of Gondor)
+ Bruce = Norman name, no meaning provided. Babynames says that it's English from the place name "Bruis." Thinkbabynames (http://www.thinkbabynames.com) confirms the Norman origin and also as a place and baronial name. I guess the actual meaning has been lost.

There are heaps of web sites (and books) out there about names and their etymology. :)

Show how committed you are and name him Optimus! Lol :D

Nah, personally when I have a boy, I plan on naming him Tyson or Alexander... to me they sound like names that evoke power.

There are some Transformer names that could pass off as boys names.

Alan (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Alan)
Kirk (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Kirk)
Rodney (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rodney)

...and of course a whole bunch of actual human names from Transformers (who wouldn't want to name their boy Spike, Buster or Butch? :p)

My daughter's mundane name is Yuki, but her Transformer name is Yukikaze (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Yukikaze_(G1)). :)

There's also Abel (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Abel) and Jack (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Jack_%28Headmasters%29) (also the name of a Mini-Con (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Jack_%28Cybertron%29)). :)

Go on, call your boy Victory Leo. :p (as opposed to Fail Leo (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Leo_Spitz))

It doesn't really matter what you want as at the end of the day your wife will tell you what name you like:p:D
Optimus's original name was orion and you could just about pull that one off as a name with no TF connections to your missus;):D

Bah, you have no sense of style my friend! Tell me the truth, have you even asked the Mrs if Grant would be acceptable, i know you love the name, how about her?

Grant:
From a Scottish surname which was derived from Norman French grand meaning "great, large" Damn, that sums me up very well doesn't it?

Originally a Scottish surname derived from the French grand, meaning tall or great

Failing that how about Bruce?

Bruce:From a Scottish surname, of Norman origin, which probably originally referred to the town of Brix in France. The surname was borne by Robert the Bruce, a Scottish hero of the 14th century who achieved independence from England and became the king of Scotland. It has been in use as a given name in the English-speaking world since the 19th century.

Failing those two fantastic suggestions, what about Frank, or Peter or even Stan?

I already suggested Kirk before.

The world's most common given name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_(name)) is a boy's name and it means "praiseworthy." :)

I picked both our kids names,My sons name Is Archer and my daughters name is Tabitha...If your having a boy I recommend Archer for a boys name, its a strong name but also a very old name but not old corny.. the best way to pick names is to walk out your back door and yell out of anger and if it sounds good and if it comes out your mouth effortlessly... your on a winner..:p :p:p:p

Good to see the names which me and the missus have thought up for our next child have yet to be mentioned. I want him to be the only person with that name (well, at least uncommon enough so that most people will not know of a person with that name). :D

Black Eyed peas why dont cha:D;)

You wanted a name something sounding peaceful ei? hmm thatll be a tough one... all I can come up is violent ones :(
I wont be suggesting my name - even though it means Champion in Scottish origins coz of how damn well frustrating how people misspell it most of the time (four letter word and most get it wrong, ridiculoushrmph):mad::mad:
Im also trying to think of names your kid wont get teased for in the playground later in his life.... e.g. Gaylord

Well there's

Jiro - var: Jeero - meaning "Second son" - Jap origins

Rayden - derivative from the Japanese god of Thunder then you can nickname him Rai - which means Lightning:D so in effect he is lightning and thunder maybe naming him such turbulent name will work quite the opposite this time and turn out to be a peaceful kid:rolleyes:

Uriel - name of one of the great Archangels - bearer of the flaming sword which barred Adam and Eve from entering Paradise again - means "flame of God" hopefully he turns out to be an angel hehehe- not like your previous god of war kid:D although he is keeping in theme with the flame and fire thing...

Dante - means "Lasting, Enduring" in Spanish

Samuel - requested of God

ooooor you could call him

Bartram;)var. Batrhram meaning Bright Raven from the Norse myth - ravens where consecrated to the Norse god Odin - of course you could call him Odin as well hehehehe

No offence dude, but I would never recommend to a Transformer fan to name their son "Archer." ;)
Reason 1 (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Aaron_Archer)
Reason 2 (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Angry_Archer)
...but that's just me and my TF bias. :p

liegeprime: Heh, I have an ex-student whose name is Jiro. :) I wouldn't recommend the name "Raiden" though (even though my daughter forms his left leg :p) mostly because I think most English speakers would mispronounce it. They would say "Ray-d'n" (incorrect) instead of "righ-dehn" (correct).

Samuel would be alright. It's also the name of a TF character too. Even more-so if you make his middle name James... and make his surname Witwicky. And nickname him "Buster" (not Spike, that's for firstborns :p). Tell him that his great-great grandpappy's name was Archibald. Okay, I'm getting carried away now. d:
