Hey guys =o)

I'm not sure if this would interest anyone, as it is kinda old now, but considering the Armada Transformers game on PS2 a few years back was quite a classic imo, I thought I'd bring this up for those who also enjoy(ed) the game.

I've had this on my computer ever since the game first came out, and after finding it again today, I thought I'd post a link to it for people to download (yes, Atari is still hosting the website/download files of a 6 year old game). Basically (for those who haven't seen this), it's a small little program that displays a 3D textured model of Optimus Prime from the game, with a few options at the bottom to show his animations for walking, running, kicking, fighting, shooting, and ofcourse, transformation. Nothing much, but a nifty little novelty imo, and I wish I had the know-how to make this a screensaver =o)

Anyhoo, here it is for those interested, with screenies for those who haven't a clue what I rambling on about:

And yes, the game is a classic to me as well.

That looks cool.. wish a Wii version was released

Is the game any good?

the game predated the Wii by about 2 years, plus a new publisher owns TF game rights so there is little to no chance of seeing it on Wii

Yes, it was very good. Only real niggle was that it was a bit short. The graphics were very good for the day and it was great fun to play although it got terribly hard later in the game and due to Prime having all the power, Hot Shot got forgotten about in the last 2 or 3 levels. I was playing this the other day. I would have liked an urban level as well, but I still think its a ripper of a game.

It also has one the coolest boss fights of all time against Tidal wave. A nice touch is that the level with TW as the boss has you running around him (and inside) as he is in vehicle mode...

I found this game interesting because it changed quite lot from the initial development to the final product.

Check this video out to see some stuff that was left out. Powerlinking in vehicle mode for example. There is no sound.

I think one of the guys that used to be on TAAU worked on the game as it was done by Melbourne house (in Australia!:p )

Yeah, he also posted details about the Cybertron game Atari canceled very early in development. Unfortunately, since it was posted on TAAU, not many other sites heard about it, so people outside of Australia merely assumed Hasbro ordered the cancellation of the Cybertron game for no apparent reason, perhaps out of spite.

I still need to play this game...I remember playing the demo and it was surprisingly fluid and very fun to play. You'd think Transformers games would be a dime a dozen on modern consoles such is the potential for great gameplay but for some reason they're far and few between - and it seems Melbourne House is the only one who can make a game worth writing home about anyway...I've been harping on about Batman: Arkaham Asylum but can you imagine a Transformers game with those sort of production values on PS3/360? It would be glorious!!

I've only seen gameplay video's of the Bay movie games but that's enough for me, I'm not going to encourage the developer to make more generic crap like that by paying for a copy. Having problems sleeping? Youtube the ROTF games Devastator battle while listening to some Steve Roach music (not that I don't love his music but you get the idea :D).

EDIT: Just snagged a new copy of the Melb House game on ebay. Can finally see what all the fuss is all about! :D

The whole game was a big suprise to me in many aspects, but yes, this moment was a real highlight! =o) That first moment of hearing the distant mortar cannons firing was pretty effing sweet, especially still riding on the buzz of aquiring that Minicon minutes before! I'm not saying what the Minicon does, cause I don't wanna spoil it for Doubledealer =oP As I was out of the Transformer loop at the time (but still a long-term fan from a distance), I had little knowledge of the Armada universe, hence I was unaware that this huge aircraft carrier firing cannons at me, would later transform and whoop me senseless, so I was in total awe! I've never been whooped so hard and still have a grin on my face XD

I can't remember names, but when I was doing a Game Design course back in 2005 (had to withdraw, wife pregnant, needed job), I got to meet some of the people who worked on this game, and they showed us a video of how the very first version looked, and it looked C-R-A-P! They were basically instructed to "make a game to sell the toys", so the game essentially looked like the toys, but moving... it was NOT pretty... IIRC, the initial time allowed for the project was around 12 months, so when they decided to scrap the piece of crap they had and actually make something they would be proud of, they only had around 6 months left. So even though the length of the game is mildly disappointing, considering the time they had to accomplish what they did, I stand amazed and take my hat off to the guys and gals of Melbourne House! And to Atari, CURSE YOU TO HELL FOR CANCELLING THE SEQUEL!!! *very angry fanboy face*

And ty for the video link, very nice! =oD

Yeh, I strongly recommend collecting the Data cons as it also has concept ideas and stuff in there to look at.

This game made me like yellow cars. I hated them (and therefore Hotshot) before this!:D

And some trivia. Regurgitator did a version of the theme for this game.
Thought I would add a linky-link to the atari web page in question.

At the very end, after the Megatron battle. All this talk makes me wanna go finish it again =oP Back in the day I made game saves per difficulty (3 save slots, 3 difficulties) and finished it on each (some Minicons are only obtainable on the Hard setting). Over time I lost my PS2 game save somehow, so about 12 months ago I did the same thing on the PS3 using a virtual memory card... Could it be time to do it again? =oP

Many, many older games bring me back for a quick shot, but few games bring me back to finish again, and this is one of them.

You had to collect most of the Minicons to do it as well, then he was a sort of bonus level type affair.

What mincons were available on the hard setting? I think I got them all on the Rookie setting, maybe about 40 or so. Cant remember exactly.

i know you need to collect certain minicons to get to other minicons

Jaisun
15th September 2009, 02:27 AM
On the recruit level, collecting 30 Minicons will enable the battle with Unicron. For the Veteran level you need 35, and for the Commander level all 40 Minicons are required. It's been a while since I played through, so I can't remember the names/abilities of the Commander mode-only Minicons sorry.

What a great game.....ahhhh the memories. From recall it was kind of open world in level design and replay value was great. Hats off to Atari Melbourne for making a cracker of a game.

Every few months I check to see if its on psn for download but no luck as yet :(

Would if I owned one. My brother owned the PS2 and the game so I just borrowed them off him for a week.

Just bought an old ps2 at the local pawn shop dodgy dealers and a copy of it off EBay

And your not wrong about resolution....damn

But it's playable. And still such an awesome game.

Sure the war and fall for cybertron games are better in terms of storyline, graphics, and in many other areas however freedom of open world still gets me in. The mini con collecting and outfitting of weapons etc is very very cool too

Still a great game. Dare I say...classic? ;)

Yeah I loved this game back in the day. Still got it on a shelf somewhere :)

I remember one of the magazine reviews I read:

"This game doesn't make you question why it is so good, it makes you question why every other Transformer game has been so bad"

Of course, this is pre-WFC/FOC days ;)

One of the few PS2 games I still own. Bought a brand new PS2 before they disappeared from store shelves just so I can play it again one day. For the record, I rate gameplay over graphics any day of the week.
