Hey guy's, with my new job and my large tax return, I have started making a nice basket full of money, but I haven't bought any tfs at all. The last tf i bought would have been over 4 months ago, and it was a Universe/classics 2 Dinobot, for whom the blade and box are missing because of my stupid .... of an ex girlfriend.

Anyway, I want to start collecting again, but I've lost the passion to do so. Wanna give me a hand to remember how to collect and enjoy it again?
When I think about Transformers now, I'm just bored. I've been playing more AC/DC and Iron Maiden dvds then I have G1/BW/BM or any of the movies, my mum thinks I'm sick lol.

Any help would be awesome:) Thanks, TB

I have been very bored too during this period. I don't find the movie toys that fun or exciting and although I have not lost the passion, I do feel a bit bored as everything is now about Movie toys or repaints of Movie toys.

Don't force yourself to collect. If transformers aren't exciting you, and you feel the need, then focus on something else. There are plenty of AC/DC and Iron Maiden collectables.

Just hibernate, ROTF will soon be over and we will see the return of universe/classics and animated and eventually a completely new line of exciting toys for us to explore. Just make sure you check in every once in a while

Thats true, but I already have a big AC?DC collection, Guitar, albums, posters, videos/dvd/blurays, I have a gold record and the new Black Ice record, t shirts, boxer shorts, statues rum glasses, a huge coffee mug.

Iron maiden, I have every album, and dvd out, I have posters, more shirts then jayjays and the Ed Hunter game.

Save your money. There's no point wasting it if you don't feel the inspiration.

You don't have to be actively buying new toys all the time in order to be a passionate TF fan. I cut down heaps on buying TFs during 1993-95 and 2002 was also an annoyingly dry year. But it doesn't mean that I stopped being a TF fan during those years - I would still play with what toys I have, read comics, watch videos etc. Just because there may not be any new products out now that interest you doesn't mean you can't still continue to enjoy all the existing toys that you have now!

While the number of toys I purchase has fluctuated in the past 25 years, my passion has never waned. I personally find the idea of "losing interest" in Transformers is quite alien as it's never happened to me. <shrug> A few years ago I bumped into a girl who was a classmate of mine back in 1992 and she told me that she and all her friends still remember how I loved Transformers. :)

I too am totally bored with ROTF! I was telling the other SA members at our last Meet about how much I resent Michael Bay for making me lose interest in Transformers!

All the excitement of a new movie/toyline were completely sapped during that 2 and a half hour monstrosity, and for a while I started to lose interest in TFs in a big way! In fact I found myself really getting in to DCUC/MOTUC/Super Powers figures and I wasn't buying TFs at all.

But then I decided to pull my finger out and start expanding on my G1 collection, and let me tell you... I am SO much happier now! I've been buying big (mainly 87/88 figures) and I've re-discovered my passion for Transformers!

My advice: Forget ROTF and try collecting figures from another line (either another TF line or a completely unrelated line) which makes you happy and excited. You'll get the passion back after a while... at least, I did anyway! :)

Do you collect anything and everything across all TF'er lines or do you stick with G1/BW/BM toys/characters? Do you like core characters or the more obscure, less known ones? What goes through your head when you decide to buy a Transformer? :p If we could have a bit more background on what you collect and why that might help in forming suggestions to renew interest.

I don't know if you have him already but Henkei or Universe Cyclonus is a pretty insprirational figure which may help to re-spark your interest. ROTF scout class Ransack is another good one I can recommend highly.

It is a bit of a dry spell right now if you're not into RotF.

I took a major break due to my car accident around Christmas last year and then returning to study this year. My expenditure on buying transformers probably went from using around 60-70% of my my total revenue down to around 10-20%.

Collecting for the sake of collecting is certainly not going to re-ignite the passion. Why not take a break and enjoy other interests and pursuits? That way you're saving money and when the new Universe/Henkei lines come out after ROTF, you might get back into it.

I remember going off video games for a while, so I unplugged for quite some time and it made it more fun when I got back into it because I was interested again.

I can relate somewhat. While I'm still into TFs, I don't feel as excited for them as I did last year. I think it's mainly to do with RotF, since that was one big thing rather than an ongoing series. It didn't help that it was one big mediocre thing, and that it's basically going to dominate every piece of news until Universe 3.0 or whatever new series shows up.

Try collecting something else in the meantime, or just save money.

I collect Encores, MP line, Classics, other special stuff from takara, I collected most of the LAM stuff, ROTF I only have one toy thanks to griff, but when all the toys first came out, I wanted all of them, but had no money. But now that I have a good flow of money, I just cant seem to want to buy anything.

I love G1 characters, thats why i like to collect the classics, MP and encores. What goes threw my head. Do I have the money, yes, sold lol. All characters I like really, even if i have only just been introduced to them. Transformers in general I love to bits, but I just cant get any motivation to get anything new.:(

I don't collect animated.:o

That's why I bought a new guitar :p:D

Just because you don't want to buy anything new doesn't mean that you can't continue being a passionate TF fan.

As I said before, my TF toy buying was at all time lows during 1993-1995 and 2002. To this day my G2 collection remains quite small. But that _doesn't_ mean in the slightest that my passion for Transformers ended during those years. During 1993-95 I did read the G2 comics and of course continued to re-read my old G1 comics, watch G1 cartoons and play with all my old toys.

Being a TF fan isn't just about actively buying new toys all the time - it's the love for the franchise.

Yeah I agree, if you have other hobbies or interests attend to them, only collect when you really want to.

And enjoy the dryspell while it lasts for some people like me who were excited by the ROTF line and collected quite a few toys, as well as some from other toy lines that hit this year like GI Joe ROC, couple that with the end of Henkei classic at the start of the year.. and well I'm hoping for a dry spell to slow down. I'm glad there's nothing I'm after till Bludgeon is released cause a break is needed.

And I to find my interest in TF collecting goes up and down from year to year, this year has been busy, but last year was quiet I sold as many TF's as I aquired, though I still attened meets and followed this board. And even If I loose interest in a line I never seem to loose interest in collecting. While I wasn't collecting TF's much last year, I did pick up a lot of 25th Anniversary Joes.

Continuing to be a TF fan doesn't require u to buy stuff. I think it's a time that gives u an opportunity to enjoy the stuff u've already got that doesnt get enough love usually cos ur too buys acquiring.

To me it appears ROTFs that lull for a lot of people. But I think there's a large part of TF fandom that's all about buying (says me :o) but I think a lull is good b/c it could get ppl to focus on more creative endeavours about TFs like customs, fan fiction, art etc.

Enjoy the Dry Spell now. There's a lot of other things you can do which you might find enjoyable, it gives you time to tinker with the stuff you already have and you might be surprised to find a gimmick or two you haven't found before. It's a pleasant breather for you to take time, say, rearranging your display, playing with the figs you already have, as some may have gotten neglected, cleaning up your figs and shelf spaces, taking time to think of what direction you might wanna take your collecting to and as other have said give you a chance to look into the other things/hobbies you do and give these a bit of attention. Everyone goes for a break every now and then, no matter how good a thing is, if its always in your face kinda thing it'll quickly do lose its novelty. Abscence ( only short one sheheh) makes the heart grow fonder.:D

Yeah, the other funny thing is, while getting a cool toy compells one to get more and complete the collection, sometimes it seems the more you get the less special each individual is. Sometimes its good to just stop and enjoy.

Hey!!!! I always looks young because of my chubby babyface, that and I play with toys. :D

I wouldn't say I've had as much passion in buying TFs as much as I did a couple of years back. But my reasons started solely because the move to city and getting a car sort of drained all the funds away.

Maybe dig up some old cartoons, comics and books to bring back all the good memories TFs had brought you. :)
