This isn't the first. There have been many real transforming robots done before...

The (91cm) high creation took part in the Robo-One competition, which aims to drive the creation of humanoid-shaped robots.
This competition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robo_One) has been around for years (since 2002). This is arguably the coolest one made, but it's by no means the first.
