Finally got the Revoltech Assemble Borg Line. They're exclusive to small specialty shops in japan so they can be annoying to import.

I've only had a little play around with them getting all the bits and pieces out and now needing to sort them before i lose them.

1. This is what they look like minty and sealed

So that's the deal with Assemble Borg. I see them advertised in catalogues but never seen them online anywhere. They look a lot like Microman, though bigger and more interchangeable.

Though admitedly I'm even more keen to see the guys in the background, as I said on the other thread, I generaly only have good things to say about Revoltech figures, and I like that they have several liscenses now quite a few of which have previously been confined to modelkits and exspensive high end figures. Much like Hasbro has been doing with their 3, 1/4 actions figures (but better) It's nice to see a company doing reasonably priced posable figures to a decent standard across multiple universes.

Which means crazy crossover action poses!

I only have experience with the TF Revoltech's, and can't say i was all that impressed. I do like the paint quality and generally speaking, they capture the characters quite well

But, i'm not fond of the similar body parts between characters (thighs, forearms are virtually interchangeable). Mostly i don't think they're all that poseable; i don't like how the revolver joints have defined notches - that always seem half-a-click out of where i want them to be! Finally i don't like how the joints are so prominent, Starscream didn't have giant balloons above his thighs in G1!

I'm sure the TF's aren't the greatest in the line, but i'm not sure what else to sample... character wise a lot of them are lost on me, and quality wise i'm not sure which are the most poseable/fun.

I'm open to recommendations, but i've had way more fun with my Super HCM figures - and i'm keen to try The Robot Spirits line too.

Ok, that Alien is the hotness - it'll look awesome with the Revoltech glossy paint, and the joints will probably work great for crawling poses too!

Yeah, prototypes of that Alien have been seen for months now. It's finally comming!

I guess it depends what you are looking for in a figure. They are a slightly different entity to most action figures that are sculpted in a neutral state, and as such many Revoltechs can't quite stand straight they always look a bit like there posed, and they aren't quite as fun for fiddling as some action figures. What they are fun for is coming up with ideas for crazy exaggerated dynamic poses and reposing them. For me they combine a bit of the detail and dynamism you get in busts and statues, with the poseability and affordability of an action figure. It's not quite a perfect blend but I like it.

I don't have any of the Transformers Revoltechs myself so I can't comment there. The Transformers ones don't really appeal to me that much seeing as how regular Transformers are already action figures. The same way HCM Pro is mostly confined to Gundams. The Revoltechs I like best are from the other oldschool Anime series that the only collectable options available are usually not so great quality model kits or extremely exspensive collectors toys. As a casual fan of series like Patlabor, and the various Go Nagia super robots, I just want a nice looking poseable toy that's not to expensive.

I'm not sure I would recommend any one series over another, seeing as how It generaly only grab stuff from series I like, although there have been some exceptions and I have been tempted by some from series I've never seen before, or even just plain dislike.

kurdt_the_goat
27th October 2009, 11:35 PM
I think the regular HCM Pro line is pretty much dead, they're only doing new Super HCM's - but you're right, mostly Gundam's. The Robot Spirits line is a semi-successor i think, and is branching out to more franchises - Macross Frontier and Full Metal Panic recently - but i doubt there'll be an Alien one anytime soon! :p

Lord_Zed
27th October 2009, 11:53 PM
Yeah I've seen some of the Macross Frontier ones, they are nice but a little pricey for me. I only got the Revoltech Valkyries cause they were cheap at the time (except the Glaug, that was must buy regardless).

These days Valkyries are also something that there are quite a few options for when it comes to collecting.

There is a Revoltech full metal Panic toy, I have no idea what it is, but it sure has cool energy hair! :)

I think you're talking about Laevatein? It's getting a rerelease later this year, one of the better Revoltech's from what i've read/seen!

I don't know its name, but the red and white mech was already released earlier this year, I think they are releasing a new version though.

I'm not so keen on Batman myself, he'll probably be pretty good though, but I prefer characters from local brands, Like UFO Grendaizer and even some of those Ninja type guys and gals!

I'll make an exception for that alien figure, and maybe Jack Skelington though. :)

Not so keen on the Valkyries (though at least they are normal price), but loving the look of those Zoids.

As for the sword mistress above, she's gonna get severe back damage, carrying around a heavy sword like that all day. :D

kaiden
3rd November 2009, 12:53 AM
ah i was going to post the new stuff XD

the red/white mech is ARX-8 Laevatein from Full Metal Panic, and yeah they're doing a revision on it.

The girl with the big tits and sword is Cattleya from Queen's Blade.

They're both anime if anyone is interested in watching them.

I really like the Transforming Macross figures it shows how creative they can be with their design while keeping with the joint system. it just means i wont have to buy those $200 ones that look so easy to break.

I quite like revoltechs now. I got the TF ones and were a little disappointed, mainly becasue of the look they used, but have acquired some of the Street fighter ones and a couple of the Queensblade ones. Not bad, they have the look and dynamics of a statue, but can be moved around and re-posed.

I must say I am excited at the Jack Skellington (nightmare b4 xmas) one there. Wooooo more RV goodness! Might look at the Batman one and a Valkyries coz they look alright. A t-rex hey? Zoids as well? They have heap of licenses.... Wowsers

+1 on everything you said, Some of the first Revoltechs I saw were disapointing, but they seem to be improving with every new release.

I just wish they'd make some more Zentradei mecha, or the ninja girl from Queensblade.

Or a Revoltech Escaflowne line, but alas that is highly unlikely. :(

I have recently become interested in the Revoltech Macross Kanzen Henkei figures that are being released in a couple of weeks.

I didn't know much about Revoltech but I have been doing some research and they seem quite good.

I really like the idea of a transforming Revoltech VF-1. Are the previous Valks any good? I would also like to get the Regult to go with the Kanzen Henkei figures. Does anyone have a Regult?

Those Assemble Borg look pretty good. What is the story on those?

Does anyone know what Licenses Kaiyodo have? I like the look of the Alien and would like to see a Predator. And I am interested in that Batman but I would like to see more

Ah yes Revoltech, finding more ways to make me part with my money. The fact that they are having a go at so many liscenses and that they are a known quantity when it comes to quality, means I'm looking forward to these new releases.

I buy mine from HLJ, I've also used Angloz once, price was about the same in the end. Went back to HLJ out of loyalty (they haven't done me wrong yet).

I'm a Zoid fan, though I have stopped collecting now as I have pretty close to every mould I wanted (mainly 00 re-releases of the original 80's ones), also they went from being the best value for money Japanese toys on the market to being quite pricey. Having said that I will make an exception for those revoltech Zoids, I'm glad they are Chaotic Century and not from one of the later lame series. Hope they make Sabretiger and Redhorn.

That Vash looks awesome!!!!!!!!

Wolfwood is good too, but not as obvious improvement over previous Wolfwood figures.

I think I will try to pick one up in person from the Kaiyodo shop while I'm on holiday. :)

While the price of these new Revoltechs has gone up, they definitely seem a lot more ambitious than the toys at the beginning of the line. I picked up a discounted Datte Masamune just recently, and he is all kinds of cool. Despite being founded mostly on mecha action figures, Kaiyodo seem to do best with organics, or figures with dynamic organic shapes.

Nonetheless I'm still anticipating the Zoids release, they were in the last catalouge as coming soon, so i'm guessing July release, but then what's coming out in May?

Can that alien be posed as crawling on all 4 legs or does the neck not allow the head to move so far?

I've become a bit disappointed with the revoltechs i've bought over the past few months. The evangelions especially, their QC has gone down the drain. I'm reluctant to buy revoltechs if there is an alternative available.

Are we speaking if new Revoltechs or old ones? Because I've generally found that all the newer more expensive Revoltechs have been getting better and better. Where as previously I had only picked up a few cheaply and been moderately satisfied, lately I've been actually preordering them.

Also the Revoltech Predator has been confirmed.

Yeah the Alien still has the clicky joints and the on all fours pose is out of the question but the paint is very good and it's quite a bit bigger than a regular Revoltech figure.

I'm talking the newer figures, the eva unit 02 from the new movie, very sloppy paint apps and just overall feels cheap compared to the older revoltechs from back in 06/07. If a figure im after is available as a robot damashii or a chogokin i'll usually go for that, however i'll still get the predators. just because they are predators =]

They do look very nice, fortunately I only have passing familiarity with Full Metal Panic, so I should be able to resist. Love the dynamic hair part on the red one though.

Also I've generally find I prefer more weird shaped or organic looking Revoltech.

I'm sure the Zoids release will suck me in though.

Interesting, the only new Eva Revoltech I have for comparison EVA 03 has no botched paint issues, although I'm sure as with anything it varies from batch to batch.I will say It's still far from my favourite Revoltech. I'm kinda the opposite with purchasing though. Seeing as how I keep on buying Macross and Transformers stuff, Revoltech hits the spot nicely for my Super Robot, and Patlabor fix, as I don't really have the funds to spare to get them in Chogokin form, much as I might like too.

Granted the chogokins are expensive, but die cast parts. thats my weakness. I got their fireball drossel with the light up LED eyes. I look forward to the zoids and predator revoltechs. I just wish that the Figma range would create more of a mech range.

I just bagged a Chogokin Drossel too! Very nice it is. Makes my Gold Lightan look like a lighter in scale comparison though. Although we never saw Drossel in scale with anything we know, so maybe she is HUGE!;)

If your into photography of your figures, give photographing drossel a go with her eyes turned on in a dark room, youll need a tripod though. If you like figmas with guns you should pre order the black rock shooter one due out in july. Also, do you know any sites that have the armored Saber figma? Tekkaman has some really nice designs suited to revotech. I would buy each and every character if they did XD

FMA would be decent with the Elric brothers. Edward would have decent accesories with the transmutated weapons that i vaguely remember from the anime. Alphonse...i have no idea what he would have.

I would like them to make
-Lion Voltron.
-Code Geass mechs
-Sakura Wars mechs
-Break Blade mechs
-Zone of the Enders mechs

He can have a Philosophers stone accessory with him:D as in the 2 versions of the series FMA and FMABr he always gets a stone. Edward can have his bladed hand, his fave transmuted spear. Both of course their stands, prolly add some background scene as, yeah they really dont have much going accessory wise. BUt having the 7 homunculus figures would be great too!

Certain designs are better suited to different lines I think, the ones that make the best Revoltechs are usualy the more exagerated looking characters with flowing capes, unsual shapes, battle damage and crazy poses. These work best for the semi pre-posed Revoltechs in my mind, while more traditional mecha or characters like TF's are probably better suited in other lines with more standardized articulation set up.

Ever since Dangaioh (http://www.hlj.com/product/KYD01097) was released I've longed to see Revoltech Escaflowne mecha, the unusual shapes and capes would work well in a Revoltech format. More Trigun figures would be good too, but I don't excpect them, as the two released next month are probably just because of the new movie.

Oh I don't disagree, it's very Tekkaman, but this and other figures have proven there ability to sculpt unusual mecha as opposed to the more standard rectangular Gundam. The best Escaflowne merchandise I've picked up are the trading figures (the Yamato transformable is ok, and the Bandai kits suck to hell) so If they just added articulation it would make my day.

Obviously though an Escaflowne or Tekkaman line is pretty unlikely given the series age, but they made Dangaioh who is also old so you never know.

well bandai recently released the Chogokin Tekkaman Blade with Pegas and the Armor Plus Tekkaman Blade recently. Armor Plus Tekkaman Evil (his evil brother) is being released in July at 7,875Yen (approx $92AU)

So there seems to be some interest in the series. In a business view, making a cheaper alternate like revoltech which retail just over 2000Yen is a smart move.

Its just whether 'they' know this or not.

Well small though it is it still looks better value than most TF Leader Class toys, but I do agree it is bloody expensive just like those Zoids Model kits, and even regular Zoids. Zoids seem to have gone up in price a lot these past few years.

Back when I started my Zoid Collection I was paying 300-2500 yen on average for most Zoids, and even then the dollar was crap. If I do get this Geno breaker I will have paid more than I paid for Deathsaurer.

depends if you want SAL or EMS

I usually go with SAL unless there's a discount on shipping. (there was 50% off shipping march/april so i got EMS)

Anyway for SAL - normal sized revoltechs (as shown by trigun-vash)
i was quoted shipping -

1 figure : $680Yen = roughtly $9Aus

2 figures : $1180Yen = roughtly $15Aus

they said they might be able to fit 3 into one shipment but that would mean there would be no packing so there might be damage from shipping.

so for blade liger it would be in between those prices by itself.

They do look good, but I wouldn't get your hopes up about them releasing many more, seeing as how the merchandise is likely tied to the new Trigun Movie, and characters from that. I would hope they make the bad guy at least though, or the Insurance girls for that matter.

Yeah the joint system is unusual in some places but they are very dynamic, and its easy to pose them in awesome fighting poses. The paint job is top notch, and some metalic paint is mixed in too, so they really pop. The original release have chromed parts too. I would have liked the head a painted flesh tone too, but hey.....

Not sure what the white ones look like in person, I only have the original two.

I bought a Hokuto の Kenshiro figure yesterday, just because he looked so badass in the shop window. Turns out he is a very cool figure too, very good sculpt and paint aps. While other brands may make better mech action figures, Revoltech are now my solid favourite for human (or super human) action figures. The only other brand I haven`t had a chance to compare them to are the company that makes Jo jos Bizzare addventure and Kinnukman figures, they also look cool but are pricer than both Revoltechs and Figmas.

I played with the Assemble Borg at the Kaiyodo shop like I said the windows are full of cool custom assemble boerg things. While I see the appeal I decided there really not my thing on the Revoltech scene.

I use the pliers sometimes like last week to get a stuck joint out of one of my Hokuto No Ken figures, they sometimes work ok, as you would using conventional pliers you have to apply the force to the very end of the pliers and use the leverage to twist things out, otherwise they are useless.

the pliers are so-so. they grip is iffy sometimes depending on how tight the joints are in and feel like they might break from squeezing the handles together to apply force but they do definately stop your fingers from getting hurt.

wolfwood is awesome. love his weapon and his cigs.

yeah because of the size of the box, they said they had to use a larger shipping box and then they tripled the shipping cost (3k+Yen)

The big box and apparent lack of quality on the Liger is a bit of a turn off. I saw the big box while I was over in Japan, despite it being no bigger than a standard Revoltech.

I was considering picking it up from Amiami after being buoyed by the Revoltechs I bought while over in Japan which were all cool, but now I'm not so sure.

Seems like Kaiyodo are only good at organic shaped figures.

My experience with Figma vs Revoltech has favoured Revoltech. The Figma's I picked up have had pretty simple paint jobs and even then still been plagued by not so great QC, one has chipped paint.

The Robot Damashii series looks pretty good though, although I have no real issue with the quality of the current Revoltech EVA releases given the price difference can be significant. I'm very pleased with The Beast, Eva 05 was ok quality wise but why don't they give you and extra hand piece so it could put down its damn lance???

The Transforming Valkyries didn't look so good, I think they have already hit the bargain bin. Even the old Valkyrie figures were pretty average. I like the YF 19 and 21, but the VF 1 was nothing special.

I havent had so much trouble with my Figmas, but I prefer revoltechs mainly because it feels like you get more bang for your buck. Figmas always seem a little light on accessories.

Having said that, I can't seem to refuse violent schoolgirl figmas for some reason.

Just Got my Nicholas Wolfwood and Rei ayanami today. Rei is lacking accessories, just a heap of hands, glasses, a mobile and some extra faces. One thing I was impressed with was one extra hand is holding a very realistic looking bandage!

Wolfwood is pure awesome! Big guns, twin pistols, lotsa hands, faces and a couple of cigarettes as well. YEH! Love it. Now I need to find some Trigun anime to watch

I'm much the same I have the so called violent school girls too, unfortunately I was unlucky with the one who appears in your sig.

I brought Wolfwood and Vash back from Japan, but I haven't opened them yet, (I brought a lot of figures back Revoltech,Figma and even a Robot Damashi so it's all in good time). The sculpts looks good though, similar to the Sengoku Basara figures which are among my favourites.

The last Revoltech opened was Neo Getter 1, who is quite cool nice glossy paintjob and lots of accessories and an improvement over the older Getter figures, also he's easy to find cheap which helps.

What are the new Fraulein figures like? the early ones seem to be plagued by QC, I have the original Rei but she's very floppy and loose. I would hope they corrected that with the new ones, I almost bought Mari, but I wasn't sure.

The only Fraulein figs I ahve are Yoko from Guren Lagaan and Rei. I think I prefer the Yamaguchi figures, as the joints seem to look a bit better and they have better articulation. Of course, I think the Fraulein figs are meant for 'cute' poses, as opposed to action poses. I am slightly embarassed to admit I have some Queensblade figus and think that the way they are designed is far superior to the Frauleins. I will do some pics later to show what I mena in regards to the joints.

Should be good, each new Getter release is a little bit better than the previous one, Dragon and Shin have panels on the back of the legs that move inward when you bend the leg 90 degrees or more, while Getter Go the newest one to date has this as well as a separate back panel and extra articulation for the head so you can pose him full Superman flight style.

I just wish I had picked up the old Getters. Might have to go hunting for them.

The new Hokuto no Muso Kenshiro looks nice too, although I think one Kenshiro is enough for me.

OOOo! thats good new, after watching the Gurren Lagann anime, I deciede I wanted the figs and they aren't anywhere anymore... that wll amke life easy

I was going to stop at 4 Sengoku Basara guys, but the two new release ones looked so cool when I saw them in the comming soon window in Japan so now I have 6. Mind you most are still in package waiting for some display space. This Yamaguchi guy has gotta be one of my favourite sculptors of all time when it comes to humans and super robots, not sure about his real (gundam like) robots though.

Agreed, especially about the robots thing. Arbalest is pretty awesome though! I have been watching Trigun after getting Wolfwood. Now I have to gte me a Vash the Stampede as well... His character reminds me a lot of Lupin III as well. Now that I think of it, Wolfwood is similar to Jigen as well. they both like cigarettes and they both have snazzy suits...

I got Tokugawa, mainly because of the name more than anything else, I would have preferred it if he was more than a boxer though, but that's capcom's fault.

I was surprised at how good the design is as well. Never thought I would get this much into a line that isn't Tf's, especially after the poor version of Convoy they did. The Street Fighter ones are pretty cool and I dont think they are Yamaguchi's.

Daisuke Jigen mentioned this morning is No. 98 in the series, and will be released in November. No. 99 is yet to be announced, but should be a December release as No. 100 has been confirmed to be out in January 2011.

The special No. 100 will be announced on October 23rd at a special event. Another 2 activities are planned for this campaign:

Twitter Campaign

- 5 person who guess the right answer will be awarded with a figure of Revoltech Yamaguchi No. 100. Winners will be picked via lucky draw. This special activity will end before October 23rd.

Revoltech Yamaguchi 99 Releases Exhibition

Date: October 1st - November.
Venue: Hobby Lobby Tokyo, Akihabara Radio Hall 4F.

Revoltech Yamaguchi No. 1 - 99 will be exhibited. During this period, "Revoltech Yamaguchi Fair" will be held as well.

Revoltech Yamaguchi No. 100 Announcement & Display

Date: October 23rd.
Venue: Hobby Lobby Tokyo, Akihabara Radio Hall 4F.

No. 100 is said to have the greatest range of articulation in the history of the series.

A special limited Revoltech Yamaguchi gift bag will be released at the event as well.

Wow now I really might have to get that Woody, with those eyes he's like the most crazy looking action figure ever. The Basara guys are looking good too, although I have them too. Just waiting for some display space.

Need to get a new camera too it seems.

As for Revoltech 100 I was wondering whether they would make a hoo-hah about that. Sure would like to be in Tokyo for that Revoltech event.

What could be the most articulated Revoltech yet, and who will sulpt it I wonder?

Tetsuwan Convoy

I was thinking about that 100th revol the other night. Possibly with Lupin and Jigen bbeing 97/98 repesctively, could we see the Lupin cast? Goemon as 99 and Zenigata as 100? But I think they rarely release a hole character list like that in a row. Man I would love a Zenigata.

I am curious about the articulation thing as well. It would have to be a skinny figure, unless they count clothes articulation in that as well.

that reminds me, must find a Vash now as well.

My wife laughed lots at the pervey Woody and figma! lol:D

yeah they are good, i used to buy from them when i had no other option but their prices are retail prices. amiami typically sells everything at around 20% off so they have become the cheaper option for me this last year.

shipping rates for both would be the same i think being based in japan.

and from what i remember, the customer service i would rate about the same.

so yeah its a matter of 2,150Yen vs 2,444Yen.

I like painting most miniatures, smaller games makes it less of a chore. And minis like Corvus Bellis Infinity figures are an absolute joy to paint, there so lithe and detailed. 40k and Warmachine minis are comparatively stocky and thick in comparison, though I paint them too they are not as much fun.

My thoughts exactly Lord Zed, Infinity minis look so dynamic compared to what Games Workshop usually produce and is what first drew my eye to them, that and their interpretation of a sci fi future is more to my liking.. anyway sorry everyone else got OT again lol.

So do you know what the deal is with the school uniform BRS like this one (http://www.yesasia.com/us/figma-kuroi-mato-uniform-ver-limited/1023957352-0-0-0-en/info.html)? Are they limited exclusives or something? I couldn't see them for pre-order on HLJ, AmiAmi etc...

I prefer figma to revoltech, figures such as saber from fate stay night and the girls from eva just look better over all, and they come with the cockpit as well.

I currently have the white rock shooter on pre order, my wallet is going try cry at the price, considering the game will probably in japanese and wont be much good to me. I also have black gold saw on pre order which is due at the end of the month.

Where did you see that there are BRS vehicles being released?

Already ordered mine awhile ago which Tets pointed out to me but then I pointed out something else to him now we are both poor in money but yet rich in Figma :D

Yeah that is a special for Winter WonFest which has past not long ago but the online store will be releasing them in June and again I have pre-ordered from another seller in Japan.

Damn you GSC/Max Factory for making me poor and not be able to afford more expensive Takara G1 stuff *shakes fist*

Not sure where everyone buy's their Revoltech's from these days, but i noticed Figures Direct in Perth (http://figuresdirect.com.au/oafRevoltech.html) have now listed a few - the 3 Aliens + Toy Story Woody & Buzz... standard price $49AU.

A fairly decent price based on comparison with BBTS prices at least.

That price is about what you pay after postage I think normally. Not too bad at all. Shame the Aliens aren't all that good from what I hear.

JAck Sparrow has been done as well. Woo.

Yeah can't say the Alien Revoltech was great, looks awesome and the joints are well hidden, but not very poseable.

I've been using a mix of Amiami and HLJ, they periodically seem to overstock and then put figures on sale so you can usually snag them for a cheaper price.

More Queen's Blade/Gate

Nice that they haven't forgotten the line completely, but I wish they would finish of the ordinary Queens Blade series or rather make Claudette and Shizuka.

Tetsuwan Convoy
28th February 2011, 10:18 PM
Yeh, a Shizuka would be ace, but she didn't actually have a book in the series. Claudette would be good to finish the Leina, Elina trio.

That figure above, is from the QB Rebellion series, which was supposed to be after the series 2 of the cartoon with Clausette as Queen. Shee comes with her book, just like ALdra did.

Interesting that they only whip one put every now and then, they seem popular enough.

Just saw some new pre-orders up for revoltech on ami ami. Gt a bit excited, afterall, number 100 had passed, what else are they gonna whip up?

I was hoping for something cool, as 100 was just another Eva figure. Sadly I am left wanting... 102 Eva02, 103 zone of enders, 104 another frikkin eva

COME ON! What the hell is this??????? PSHAAAAW!

Yeah true. Though I must admit I'm strangely tempted by Eva 02's spinamajig stand, just sounds novel.

Anyway at least they released the ZOE figures, that's one new property, hopefully they will aquire some more again.

Seems there is another GITSAC movie again out this year, if only Kaiyodo could get a liscense to produce a Major and Batou figures would be awesome! Wishfull thinking probably but still.

i'm annoyed i missed out on Danboh again -_-
also missed out on 99 and iron man :/
they need more stock.

while i agree they make too many evas... that newest one with the huge missile looks pretty cool.

Really another GitSSAC movie.....excellent :D

There was a new 'Major' figure that AmiAmi has for pre-order but nothing else. I am hoping that GSC/Max Factory will do a 'Major 'figurine in the Figma line.

Yet another Eva announced. The pattern seems to be every second release from 100 is an eva, gotta milk the mold, or parts of it I guess.

http://www.nekomagic.com/coming_soon/201103/coming20110320_01s.jpg

Although I have to say (despite owning its direct predecessor) I think I may have to get this one, always did like the Eva vs Eva battle, and it has four arms yay! I must admit these new Eva's have more interesting option parts than most of the previous lot.

I completely missed out on Vash the Stampede and now I am having trouble tracking one down. I got Wolfwood with no problems but Vash is just out of my reach
