Last night I attended the 2008 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras with my Optimus Prime Voice Changer helmet on. Here are the photos taken from my camera...

Were you going as a gay or as a lesbian Gok?

Looks like it was heaps of fun either way....

Next time I expect you to invite me and we'll cosplay some Thundercracker and Skywarp!

The one night in where someone in an Optimus Prime mask is not the strangest sight one might see. :)

Any Transformer-themed float or group given the movie was out last year?

None that I saw. :p

What TF/s do you think would best represent the GLBTI community (following Paulbot's suggestion of TF-themed floats/costumes)? I don't want to resort to cliches of vain or self-obsessed TFs like Sunstreaker...

While recognising that gay people as a diverse as any other group of people, are there TFs who resonate better with events like Mardi Gras?

BTW, nice pix Gok. :)

A couple of years back my wife's hens night was on mardi gras night. All her friends dressed her up in a tutu, a fluffy halo, glitter, angel wings and all that stuff. Every club they went too, everyone asked her how the mardi gras was.:D

I like Cloudburst as a good representation because his uncomfortable scene with the leader on Femax is something many a gay guy has had to face.

Mega and Giga have quite outlandish costumes that would work on a float. In fact you could easily adapt the outfits of the Headmaster Jrs as well and make that a theme.

Cloudburst's uncomfortable moment with the Femax Queen wasn't so much because he's gay but because he's asexual... although I can see where you're getting at in terms of having a woman coming onto him where he's clearly not interested in her in that way at all. Let's hope most other gay guys don't get decapitated for it like poor Cloudburst did. That scene reminds me of that scene in Futurama where Zap, Kiff and Fry are sentenced to death by Shnoo-Shnoo. ;D

I'd say the most "gayest" Transformers that I would put on a float would be Airazar (no, that's not a typo - I mean Airazar, not Airazor) and Tigatron. Airazar is the Japanese version of Airazor who is male and formed a romantic bond with good ol' Tigatron.

if there was going to be a tf gay float

the tf to represent it would have to be G1.5 Stalker

the mardi Gras tank as my friend once described him

I am not sure if that counts since the Japanese dub forced it to be gay when it was never the original intention of the producers.

The only 'Gay' transformers that I can think of are the following:

Tracks - Gay Personality
Dreadwind & Darkwing - They do have a kind of bond and they do 'combine' :D
Starscream - He is often associated with Metrosexuality but I am not sure if that counts (although fan art has a tendency to make him gay)

Wheelie & Daniel - No explanation needed, they were certainly inseparable and takes the whole traditional human/Transformer romances to a whole new level. :)

And it's worse in Masterforce. From the opening credits I thought Buster was a girl but they insist he is Hyrda's brother.

..and what's worse is that they're siblings. :p

Only to noobs who don't know of the Autobot-Decepticon alliance in late G1.

That's my excuse anyway. :p

+1 on this. Oh for the lesbian ones -- Cybertron Override

GoktimusPrime

By kup's reasoning, Override's femininity doesn't count as the original Galaxy Force character was intended to be male. ;)

Gok's just getting into the Mardi Gras spirit and going both ways. ;)

Watching Masterforce (the horrible star tv dub) last night there was a rather "gay"moment on disc 2. IIRC at the end of the episode Landmine and Waverider (I think) are talking about having coffee at one of their houses (I can't recall who asks who) but one says "Coffee at your place? Whats so special about that?" The other replys "Only special people get to come to my place for coffee" or something along those lines. I know you probably wont count it since it's the star tv dub and thus horribly translated but I still thought it was a moment suitable to this thread:)

Willingly watching the Star TV dubs is a form of sadomasochism. :p

Unfortunately I have a japenese box set that I bought off ebay. As such all the menus ad everything are in japanese so I can't work out how to get it to play in japanese with english subtitles:(

GoktimusPrime
5th March 2008, 05:19 PM
what the... why would a Japanese box set have StarTV English dubs?? (o_O)

Anyway, see if you can post up a screen cap or photo of the menu and I'll what I can do for ya. :)

Bartrim

Yeah thats the wierd thing. Everything is in Japanese (all the menus etc) but if play as is then it plays in English.

Thanks Gok I'll try and get one posted.
