which TF is the hardest for you to transform? why is this? the sheer complexity of the tranformation or the instructions not being clear or other perhaps?

which TF is the easiest to tranform?

do you think there is a certain level of transformation that should be adhered to so it isnt too easy? obviously differes depending on age range

Easiest would be Activator Bumblebee:D just press and it transforms itself heheheh
Hardest would be are the Alts and MP jets - because some of the instructions aint clear at all. While for the jets its more of I have to be carful because Im afraid I would break the plastic:D

I'm not so sure which one is the hardest to transform but movie legends have got to be one of the easiest TFs to transform.

Except for ROTF legends prime. It's a real bit** to transform when limbs pop out easily from your poorly made toy

Hardest: Masterpiece Megatron; he is a royal pain in the <expletive>.
Easiest: Well, any one-step transformation Transformers such as Activators, Bumper Battlers, Cyber Slammers, Flipchangers, Time Warrior etc. Jumpstarters and Battlechargers in theory :p

Easiest? Probably one of the Throttlebots

Agreed, he was a pain, I transformed him once, took me 1 1/2 hours, then back to robot mode. He will stay that way the rest of his life.
MP Grim is hard as well, I haven't even tried. My bro-in-law did, but he will stay robot mode as well.
The Jets are fickle as well, but not as hard IMO.

And for a FAB, Frenzy is a pain to get back into Alt mode.

As for an easy ones, my Battle Chargers are easy, I just have to let got and they transform :D And the Duocons :p

MP Megs is the hardest, especially for the first time because theres a lot of non-intuitive transformation detail. However he fits together very nicely in the end.

MP seekers however, at least my hasbro version, is a bitch to get everything lined up correctly even when you have the hang of it.

Easiest? an RPM :p

I think other than the MPs, I think Tf Movie Ironhide's torso was hard - without instructions though

Easiest - what about Gravity Bots or G1 Jumpstarters :p

GoktimusPrime
10th November 2009, 03:21 PM
As I said, Jumpstarters (and Battlechargers) are easy one-step transformation Transformers in theory. I'd put Gravity Bots in this same category. In reality these Transformers are often trickier because their gimmicks are prone to mucking up or just breaking down. Actually, the Battlechargers' transformation gimmick tends to still work well even after 23 years, but the problem is that their back supports become floppy in robot mode.

Easiest? Probably one of the Throttlebots
You know that the Throttlebots all follow the same transformation pattern, right? ;) Having said that, Wideload would be the easiest to transform since his arms don't clip onto the main motor section; you can lift up the body without having to fold the arms out first. Doesn't really make much of a huge difference, just gives you a slight luxury of folding the arms out later if you want. :p But the Throttlebots aren't one-step Transformers, they're actually four-steps. I can't think of any Transformers that are easier to transform that one-steppers.

Agreed, he was a pain, I transformed him once, took me 1 1/2 hours, then back to robot mode. He will stay that way the rest of his life.
Same! I agree with what Lint said about his transformation being rather counter-intuitive, but I don't find the gun mode worth all that effort. I keep my MP Megatron in robot mode and my e-Hobby Megaplex in gun mode, which is closer to a 1:1 scale anyway. :p

MP Grim is hard as well, I haven't even tried. My bro-in-law did, but he will stay robot mode as well.
MP Grimlock's not that hard*. Half the toy pretty much transforms like 1985 G1 Grimlock but the other half transforms like a Masterpiece.

--------
*I'm not saying he's easy either! Like I said, half of the toy still transforms like an MP, so he's still no walk in the park, but he's relatively less complicated than other MPs.

True, but I am afraid of breaking him, just like Megs, the instructions were pretty difficult to follow, it did not explain that part of Megs (cant remember which) was "pegged in" and had to pull it in a certain way to release it. It may have in the writing but I can't read Japanese :o

Yeah, now that you mention it that I remember gamblor916 initially found his MP Grimlock a bit hard to transform. He'd brought it over to my place and I just started transforming it according to the instructions... it hadn't actually occured to me at the time that the instructions were in a language that most other people (in Australia) can't read. :p Sounds weird, but for me I just saw a toy, saw the instructions, read the instructions, and transformed it accordingly. It wasn't until gamblor pointed it out to me that I became consciously aware that these instructions aren't as easy to follow if you only have to rely on the illustrations alone. :) When I was collecting Binaltech I'd often be talking to dirge about the latest BT and he'd talk about how difficult a certain part of the transformation was, and sometimes I'd say, "I worked it out okay," and he'd point out to me, "That's because you can read Japanese!"

It's because when I read the instructions I'm not consciously thinking to myself, "I'm reading in Japanese!" I just think, "I'm reading instructions." Just as I'm sure you're not consciously thinking to yourself right now, "Wow, I'm reading a post in English!"; it's just something you do but you're not necessarily consciously aware of what language it is you're reading per se.

I find Hasbro's textless instructions for some Deluxe Class Transformers hard enough to understand! In fact, I had so much trouble with ROTF Leader Optimus Prime and Jetfire that I resorted to finding video reviews on YouTube to help me figure out how to transform them properly! :p

He's actually not as fragile as he looks. Certain parts of the transformation WILL give you the heeby jeebies though. It requires applying a lot more force than you're probably accustomed to for a plastic toy. Try watching a youtube video of someone doing it. Watching someone do it gave me my 'brute-faith' :D

Well for an expensive figure, I know he is sturdy, but like you said, I'm used to TFs that are easy to transform that do not require much force :p I'm not fussed about transforming them now anyway, they are on display and there to stay (just have to stop my little ankle biter from stealing one of my low-lying figures and using it as a chew toy :p)

If you apply force and break a Legends Class toy, you just think, "Ah bugger," but if you apply force and break part of an imported Japanese Masterpiece (especially Megatron) you can feel your blood freeze! Happened to me; I broke one of those little plastic tabs... doesn't really effect the toy that much, but yeah, my heart stopped beating for what seemed like an eternity after that! :p

If I break an inexpensive toy, I can go buy another one. I'm not buying another MP Megatron!!

All toys have their time, If I buy an exspensive toy I'd rather Transform it a lot and enjoy it, even it leads to eventual breakage, than not transform it at all.

Although I don't actualy own MP Megatron, so I can't comment.

I often find some of my old G1's are in fact become my hardest TF's to transform, due to age making them old and stiff.

Hardest would be TFTM Concept 'Bee, if only for the fact that his hood automorph got stuck in robot mode and stayed that way for about three months. Aside from him, RotF Sideswipe and Universe Triceradon are also what I think of as hard. Sideswipe because he's got a lot of stuff to pull out and stick in, and Triceradon because the bits of dinosaur go wonky in beast mode if you don't put his robot bits just the right way.

Easiest would be RotF Jetfire, or indeed most of the Legends. During the HSC, I fiddled with them as I revised, managing to transform them without even looking at them for the most part.

Dude, "TFTM" stands for "Transformers The Movie," (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Transformers:_The_Movie) whereas I think you're referring to the Transformers movie (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers_%282007%29). :)

I personally really like TF moofie Deluxe Bumblebee (both 70s and Concept). I think they're both a good balance of being complex enough to provide some challenge, but not too challenging that you end up spending an hour or so transforming them and yelling every swear word known to you (or throwing the toy across the room as I did when I first tried to transform Big Convoy (-_-)). I find them to be nice fun toys. :) My only real gripe with Concept Bumblebee are the shoulder panels which pop off too easily.

I have found, that Universe Nemesis Prime was a complete pain to transform. The instructions were lame no language at all ones, and they started from Beast mode, yet he was boxed in robot mode.... Never successfully got him into beast mode until I just recently acquired a korean Big Convoy with instructions and language (although Korean...). even then, instructions were from beast mode, but robot mode in box, still at least they worked better and I finally did it.

Now I just find that due to mould changes, parts of Nemesis naturally fall off and he just doesn't fit together well, indicating that when I tried TF-ing him , I was pretty close, but poor quality stopped (put off more like it) me from going any further...

Forming Omega Prime (RID) was a bit of a bugger too, i remember spending at least an hour on it and working up quite a sweat in the process, although it was christmas time.:D

Easiest? Battlechargers or Cosmos perhaps?

I find MP Grimbo quite easy, its close enough to the original to give me little tingles, with funkiness happening on the legs. Never found it all that hard once I had a good look at the way the tail folds away.

Big Convoy is a pain in the bum to transform. I got the Japanese version back in 1999 and even with readable instructions it was frustrating. I literally threw that toy across the room in frustration after trying to transform it for the first time. (-_-) If there were ever a Transformers dictionary, I'd swear if you looked up the word "shellformer" you'd find a picture of Big Convoy!

I found Big Convoy easy to transform and I found it intuitive. I don't know what you guys are on about :/ When I bought that toy I had heard all the stuff about how difficult it is to Transform and I actually found Energon Mirage mold (the boat guy) to be a much greater challenge. The BTs are also a much greater challenge.

A hard and frustrating toy to transform is Movie Leader Brawl another is Optimal Optimus.

Does the transformation of Big Convoy require a higher intuitive level than say Magmatron or Omega Prime?

I managed to get transform the latter two based on pictures of their robot modes. I love transformers for their ingenuity, and have been a bit iffy over Big Convoy purely because the YouTube reviews on him contain ball joints popping off.

there's also try before you buy. Check out a friend's Big Convoy (or Universe Nemesis Prime). I'm sure someone would bring their Big Convoy along to the next Sydney fan meet if you ask nicely. :)

I dunno... I guess for me the effort of transforming Big Convoy wasn't worth the result. As for comparing it with Car Robot (RiD) or Binaltech... um... it was 1999. What's Car Robot and Binaltech? ;) I don't find God Fire Convoy terribly difficult to transform but the combined mode is unstable. BT Grimlock and Wheeljack would be comparable to Big Convoy, but I guess that by 2004 I was already exposed to very complex transformations like Masterpiece and previous BTs. But when I got Big Convoy in 1999 I don't think I'd had the experience of ever trying to transform anything that frustrating. It was the first time I'd come across a Transformer where you have to transform every single step correctly in a certain order. You might get to step 10 and realised that you didn't quite do step 3 properly, so you actually need to go back 7 steps and then redo the whole thing all over again!

Having said that, I was totally thrilled with getting Big Convoy at the time. In 1998 I was already quite excited with Lio Convoy because he had a Matrix sculpted in his chest, but I was just ecstatic with Big Convoy as he was the first Transformer to have a proper Matrix accessory that could be stored and removed from his chest cavity and held in his hands! This wouldn't be outdone for another half decade (with Masterpiece Convoy). But for the 90s this was a phenomenonally cool feature! :D

Magmatron is a lot like God Fire Convoy; I don't find him inherently difficult to transform, but the combined robot mode isn't very stable (although it's a lot more stable than GFC!). :) But it's only minor things that keep popping off, like Seasaur's head or Skysaur's legs. The actual main body of the toy does hold together reasonably well.

kup
24th November 2009, 11:37 AM
The toy that I found very hard on the weekend was ROTF Bludgeon (The 'classics' looking one, Tank mode). His legs were really hard to Transform.

About Magmatron - There must be something wrong there as mine is very solid in combined mode, too solid actually as he is very stiff.

GoktimusPrime
24th November 2009, 12:11 PM
The overall toy is solid in combined mode but with mine the peg where Seasaur's head connects onto Magmatron's shoulder is prone to easily popping off. Ditto where Skysaur's feet clip onto Magmatron's chest. It doesn't effect the way that the toy is combined at all, more of a cosmetic thing. :)

Is yours the Hasbro, Takara or Sonokong version? I'm just curious to know if there's any difference in terms of structural integrity between the versions. I have the Takara version and I've handled the Hasbro version, and I didn't notice any structural difference between those two.

While ROTF can be a hard TF to Transform. I find his transformation quite enjoyable as it feels (to me) like he is folding or unfolding just like he does in the movie. The Transformers, I find hardest are those which are not only difficult, but also counter intuitive, or just plain annoying to transform.

(This statement in no way implies ownership) This has been said already, but MP Megs is the hardest for me. Transforms similar to '84 Megs (read first disclaimer) but has a lot of extra 'fiddly' bits.

Easiest for me would have to be the Throttlebots (Goki's favourites), cassette-formers, most of the '84 minibots, and Targetmaster gun partners.

Like some of you, I find it difficult to read some of the instructions - especially the Takara encore releases because mainly I can't read it, so I resort to youtube on occasion. To be honest, I prefer not reading the instructions anyway as for me, working out the transformation is my way of 'getting to know' the toy. Sometimes you actually find an 'alternate mode' which isn't detailed in the instructions ;)

I think I'll grab one of the Big Convoys on eBay.

The Korean version on eBay seems to float around the $AUD50 mark which is incl. postage. From everybody's much appreciated input and from YouTube vids, I think he'll make another masterful statue standing alongside Magmatron (got the Takara version) and Omega Prime (got the RID version). An unsatisfactory transformation is a bummer, but then its quality plastic, which is like quality wine, so the former is forgivable.

Also looking out for BW2 Lio Convoy(Twilight-sparkly one): there's a few going for $AUD75ish at the moment and appears to be a comparatively good price? I've seen some reviews on it with the prime negatives being that the sparkly-plastic is a drop in quality from the original. Anyone verify?

Speaking of BW, just received my MISB BW Cybershark (original mold, not the transmetal rubbish), and looking for a good Japanese BWN Sharpedge ;) I know they're just Delux-ified BW flipbeasts, but they're SHARKS!! If only the BW line produced a few more Deluxe/Mega/Ultra-sized oceananic predators then I could stand them all together and imagined that they would combine to form an articulated BW Piranacon/King Poseidon/God Neptune

Re: ROTF Voyager Bludgeon - won't be an option for me, no matter how hard, its a MUST 0_o  GaHgahGAh*drools*.. [sorry].. YouTube's Peaugh's review had me at the title, and sealed my fate as the sword came out of the cannon barrel.

NB: Goktimus, I've never really considered evaluating my buys based on their chronological release years (and hence available technologies). I've felt strongly for poseable transformers and so I don't buy G1, although I do have a complete G1 Quickswitch (beautifully ugly) from ye 'olde days.

As stated in the board rules (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=111) the Protoform status allows you to begin interacting immediately but the administration will convert you to full Member status depending on your interaction/involvement here. It's just to ensure that you are a fair dinkum Transformer fan and not a dealer or spammer or some other kind of pest which unfortunately we've had in the past. :( But so long as you continue to interact like a real TF fan then I'm sure your member status will be upgraded in no time. :)

There are also public events where we meet up as well such as the Sandown Fair (Melbourne), Nexus Fair (Perth) and Parramatta Collectables Fair (http://www.collectables.zip.com.au/) (Sydney). We had an OzFormers stall at the SMASH! Convention last August 8-9 at UNSW and just last week was the last Parramatta Fair.

I think you meant BWII (pronounced as "Beast Wars Second", not "Beast Wars Two"). By "Twilight sparkly" are you referring to Flash Lio Convoy (http://www.tfu.info/1998/Cybertron/FlashLioConvoy/flashlioconvoy.htm)?

My bads. BWII Flash Lio Convoy, or as eBay will have it, BWII Flashing Lio Convoy or even BWII Fleshing Lio Convoy :p

I found ROTF Optimus was hard to transform from robot to his vehicle mode, the real tricky part was his body his arm and legs weren't to bad

The easiest TF to Transform was Primus himself [Cybertron Series] I found him pretty much easy :)
