Wait... When did Hot Rod become Wolverine? I never noticed that in issue 1..?!

My two cents - this is possibly the worst artwork I have seen in a Transformers publication. I said before that I was looking to track down a copy of the first issue, but if this is the direction they are taking, forget it

Who's the character behind Jazz on the final page? For the life of me I can't place that colour scheme.

I don't mind the artwork. It is interesting and I think it is a nice blend of old and new.
The only thing I don't like is that they changed it without reason. There is no explanation to why they look different. They should at least have very similar appearances.
Prowl is alright. He is pretty much just more detailed.

Hot Rod though.....It looks like he has a completely different alt mode

To me it looks like Transmetal Optimus Primal!?!
Perhaps a more Prime-like Huffer?

Huffer wouldn't be that big would he?

Maybe its just Ultra Magnus with only his chest piece on

It took me a few looks over, but I think its supposed to be Hot Spot (as in from the Protectobots) why he's on Earth though remains unexplained.

It also remains explained why Spike is now suddenly the stereotypical Mr Cool style character, complete with sports car and woman in nothing but underwear and shirt watching from the door as he leaves.

Well they've turned hotrod from the thrill-seeking "look at me" character into a whining woose who wants to give up 3 minutes after Prime leaves.

So when does he get the Prime upgrade?

I thought Magnus originally but the colours just seem so odd.

I agree with Seraphim - it looks most likely to be Hot Spot. No wonder they have to caption the names of characters whenever they appear in this series - the first time they don't, fans have to ask the identity of even the most Geewun characters.

A whining Hotrod/Rodimus? This is getting even more Geewun!

Except for the faces :o

He'll get it when galvatron shows up after taking command of the decepticons

I hope not, it's already geewun enough thanks.

I'd also Like to know why Jazz and Grimlock seem to be sitting back and letting Hotrod call the shots, they are both experienced leaders in the IDW multiverse.

So far grimlock hasnt been seen since the end of maxim dinobots but when he does show up again I have no doubt he'll have something to say about the autobots leadership. As for jazz, jetfire and anyone else likely to step up and fill optimus shoes they might have something to say in this issues remember its only a preview.

But I do think galvatron is going to take over as leader of the cons. Megatron is apparently dead and if they weren't going to use galvatron I dont think they would of given him a story in ahm

I'm simultaneously very interested, yet very scared, to see what would be involved in Maxim Dinobots. :)

Although regarding leaders, the teasers indicate some sort of leadership spill to ccur over a couple of issues which shakes things up a little. The Decepticons (even though very little has been seen of them) seem to be a sort of disparate group without Megatron's strong personality to unify them. The Autobots too seem to be splintering without Optimus there to guide them, leading to a situation similar to how it was in War Within: Age of Wrath.

Seibertron has an interview with Andy Schmidt, which can be seen here (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/seibertron-interviews-idws-transformers-lead-editor-andy-schmidt/17393/), which seems to indicate that the business with Galvatron has big implications much later in the story (ie: two-three arcs away) and so will not be seen in the near future, meaning it's going to be unlikely he'll have a role in the Decepticon leadership spill (which is a good thing when you remember that Galvatron isn't even a Decepticon in the IDW canon).

Since when has what was previously written and established really mattered to new IDW writers?
IDW cannot rewarm and reuse the same old G1 stories unless Galvatron becomes the Decepticon leader...

I hope they can get past the splinter factions, they have kinda done it already with Grimlock and his Dynobots being a law unto themselves, Ultra Magnus wearing an Autobot badge but not really being a typical Autobot, Prowl, Jazz, Hound, Jetfire and numerous other Autobots being leaders of their own units kinds dilutes the need for a Prime to begin with.

Personally I'd like to see the Prowl story from the AHM Coda get more fleshing out in later issues, and I bet Jetfire has been doing some tinkering too...

They also seem to be ignoring the fact that the according to AHM the Decepticons won the war, what happened on Earth suposedly happened all over the galaxy, the Autobots were supposed to be routed, driven into hiding. However it now seems because Prime won on earth and Spike killed Megatron the Autobots won. Apparently those were the hidden victory conditions of the Cybertronian war, and now the Deceps have wandered off, or so it seems.:p

Its just like Star Wars Return of the Jedi, they acchieved the instant win condition, as seen starting from .26 of this clip. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEzcrfJ667E

The Expanded Universe actually has the scenario that the Empire doesn't immediately fall and the remaining Imperial Forces are fittingly refered to as the Imperial remnants.

Of course, no matter how awesome the expanded Universe is with situations and characters - Lucas has disown it because its not "My Star Wars".

They haven't really shown much off-world activity. It has all been on earth so far. Give it a couple of issues before they start showing elsewhere. They still have to set up the current situation

Also, it is said that the Emperor was using force battle meditation to co-ordinate the imperial forces. With his loss they would have been thrown into a mess. Not to mention how demoralizing losing the death star would have been

The Empire looses Death Stars all the time, surely it was more demoralizing having elite troops defeated by teddy bears.:D
