Hi guys,

I am currently planning a real kitbash repaint (with a tiny 'clip' mod on the head) using the ROTF Reverb mold as a basis. To help me out on a succesful character portrayal, I have taught myself to digibash a picture of Reverb to map out the color scheme and therefore be able to get a preview of what the figure will look like before I ruin it with real paint :).

Now in order to Test if I am succesful in portraying the intended character through this repaint, I need to know a couple of things:

- Can you tell what character is being portrayed by the repaint?

- Does the repaint succesfully portray said character within the standards of a Club Exclusive/Botcon repaint? - Please be frank about this.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey - it's Tarantulas! And yes, it's as good or better than most BotCon exclusives.

I'm not really familiar with the Reverb toy and I'm happy with the way this looks at the moment. If you wanted to, perhaps you could attach a black thread and grappling hook to his gun hand - I think that would be cool.

Yep! That's right - it's Tarantulas :)

I needed to make sure that I was making the character recognisable.

He is my attempt at making a Timelines'06 Tarantulas. I have been wanting to do the none toy characters that appeared in the Botcon'06 comic for a couple of years but I could not find a suitable mold for Tarantulas until the Reverb mold appeared.

Here is what I am aiming for:

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/transformers/images/d/d4/Tarantulasdawn.jpg

The Reverb mold is already very Beast Wars like in its robot design and detailing, he even has a molded bug mouth and a Wolfang mask!

I plan to remove the leg plates for a more Cybertronian look to the bike mode and also to have him be able to extend his legs in for a TM2 type bike mode.

In regards to your grappling hook idea, that sounds awesome! I will see if I can find some way to implement it. I guess that its not too hard as long as I find a small hook like weapon from some other toy that's within scale.

Thanks again for your views ! :)

I have made a little update in order to add more traditional Tarantulas colors.

- I have made the mouth yellow instead of green for more comic accuracy. What do you guys think?

- I have given him traditional Tarantulas Orange feet but I think that I may reverse this one as it may contrast too much with the rest of the color scheme although it is growing on me a bit but as always, suggestions/criticism are appreciated.

The new feet are good. I still think he needs some green, though. The green mouth was good, but if you don't want it I think you should put some green elsewhere (on the long lines on his chest perhaps) not only to 'be' Tarantulas, but also to break up the purple with something different.

How is this?

That's pretty cool actually, and I think it works because it makes those lines like the 'reformatted' incarnation of his spider eyes.

that's pretty cool, i instantly recognised it as taratulas and i think your colour choices are pretty good but maybe try putting a little bit more green on him like maybe on his hand and on that little circle on his chest, just an idea though
still really cool looking, i like it

i was going to say Tarantulas. to purple and mayb add some orange in the wheel arm thingies (hubcups?) or on the shoulder on the round bit ONLY but leave the rest green

Thanks! I am planning to add more color to him in order to simulate his 10th Anniversary color scheme by including yellow on his chest circle. Overall I am pretty satisfied with this final color scheme so I will be moving onto doing the bike mode next - Of course tweaking that will also tweak areas of the robot mode including adding color to the back of the claws. I plan to paint the back of it with yellow lines in order to simulate the stripes in the Spider mode abdomen.

You mean its too purple? I am not sure about adding more orange to the wheel arms as that would move it away from the Botcon character model we saw in the comic but I was thinking of adding a bit of washed green on the tyre dent detailing to simulate the green dots in Tarantula's TM2 alt mode.

Again, I'll tweak that when I move onto fine tuning the bike mode color scheme.

Thanks for your help guys, your views have helped a lot in tweaking the character tribute in the robot mode.

Fineshed doing the bike mode colors based on the Last robot mode colors plus some added highlights:

What do you guys think?

Modified Robot mode colors to reflect Bike mode color highlights:

Instantly recognisable as Tarantulas.

Someone else on the boards repainted this exact same toy into Rattrap and it looked quite good. Could probably also do a decent Black Arachnia, Airrazor and Waspinator with Reverb too... :p

Thanks! I am pretty happy with it myself.

Unless somebody has some more sugestions, I think that I will start preparing to make this digibash a reality.

Yeah, the mold is very Beast Wars like!

However I see him more as Tarantulas as he is kind of stocky like this mold while Rattrap and Airrazor are more sleek plus they already have their own cybertronian toys. However a Wolfang blue repaint would be cool as the head is almost identical to his!

Looks great so far!

I still think it looks almost too puprle. If you went a shade darker it might be alright, or possibly add some green or yellow to the forearms and front wheel mudguard. Not quite the Dawn of Futures Past colouring, but would reflect his mandibles/arms from the show.

Yeah that's just the digibash which I am still practicing on color tweaking but its basically just a blueprint and preview for when I go about doing the real thing which at the moment, I am about 40% done. The digibash is basically the plan so that I can get a good view at the basic color scheme and make sure that I am happy with it before I go forth and use real paint on the toy.

So far I have the purple closer to the 10th Anniversary Tarantulas release which is more cartoon accurate. Once I have it completed I will take a photo but there is still much to do.
