2007 is now over (and shortly will be in WA). How did you go collection-wise? How many toys did you manage to get in this last year, a year with a record number of toys released thanks to the Movie.

1 - What was the total number obtained for the year (roughly, if you don't know)?
2 - What was your best acquisition for the year?
3 - What was your worst, or the thing you most regretted buying?
4 - Most difficult item to find?
5 - Item you never found, but still want?
6 - Were the Movie toys in general good or bad?
7 - Were the Real Gear toys in general good or bad?
8 - Were the Classics toys in general good or bad?

1. Total number obtained ~650+ (transforming figures) and ~200+ (non-transforming and mechandises related to Transformers)
2. Best acquisition - BT17 Nemesis Prime, Botcon Box 2007 set, Energon Dark Unicron (at a really cheap price)
3. Worst acquisition - Incomplete Armada Unicron that I can't still get rid off!!
4. Hardest to find would be Cybertron Dark Scorponok and Cybertron Scourge (Red) just to complete my series
5. All the G1 Biggies - complete Metroplex, Scorponok, Trypticon
6. The first few waves of Movie toys were alright but had initially never thought of buying them. The recent releases were abit disappointing with the repainted figures in the same mould
7. Real gears are kind of a cool idea but once again, too many reuse of the same mould
8. Classics toy - absolutely love them, hope to sleep and hug them but its impossible at the moment, cant wait for classics 2.0 to be out
9. Jap toys - never really collect these lot as its sort of foreign language to me but i did buy BT and Movie books for the pictures. i guess in general, they are more "superior" and better valued than hasbro toys???
10. Non-transforming plushes, movie posters, accessories, 3" Titaniums, a couple of books but apparently no comics which I might invest more this year in 2008
11. Same as 10 i guess
12. Yes, the Transforming and the original DVD cases only

13. What I am hoping to achieve/get for this year?

Planning not to get the Animated Series TFs but might once again be tempted; will be focusing on completing Energon and Armada Series if possible and no side tracks besides Movies, Classics and any other SWTF figures. G1 toys is a definite but will be slow moving...

1 - 167 obtained, not including any doubles
2 - Fort Max in sheer landmark terms, but BB08 is the best toy I bought.
3 - Movie Jazz
4 - Dreadwind - I got the BotCon one during the year fairly easily but the G1 version was very hard to secure!
5 - Devcon!
6 - Good, but with the poor toys like Jazz, Iceotron & Starscream which were very disappointing
7 - Good, and a welcome change from cars, planes & beasts
8 - Good, although Hasbro deserve a kick in the janglies for their handling of the Seekers
9 - There wasn't all that difference in the two toylines, but MP05 & MP06 were quality
10 - Yeah, Actionmaster Optimus Prime!
11 - A movie poster, a pack of Robot Heroes
12 - Yes, regular version only
13 - Finishing off G1, only nine to go and - as at 1 January - only three left to locate with the others in the mail or awaiting payment!

1 - probably around 200 i would guess.
2 - Raiden (spur of the moment, but how could I say no).
3 - I try to avoid regretting purchases...that what refunds are for! Although due to inflated RRP most toys represent poor value for money.
4 - Nothing that I found gave me too much trouble, although the poor distribution of toys in the last part of the year was annoying.
5 - Fortress Maximus...yet again
6 - Not bad, although a few toys tried too hard, and failed.
7 - These were pretty sweet.
8 - Yea, out of the original molds, can't recall any duds.
9 - Meh, Not too much difference, although I did get their BBee.
10 - Not for me, but bought the big rig for my nephew
11 - The BBee shopping bag (I was experiencing a major drought!)
12 - It's on the way as I type
13 - Getting those last few G1 toys (2 in the mail, 2 on ebay, 1 being negotiated).

1 - 63
2 - Same as dirge. :p
3 - TRU reissue Soundwave. Ended up selling that set.
4 - F-1 Powerdasher
5 - Dropkick
6 - Good
7 - Good
8 - Good
9 - As others have said, not much difference between the figures released in both markets this year, but overall good.
10 - Just the voice changer helmet. Got 2 movie Robot Heroes as a gift.
11 - Yes. Bought the scrap book, some pens and cards. Got the towel as a gift.
12 - Yes
13 - Classics 2 and TF Animated - and, yeah, getting closer to finishing G1. I got maybe 100 or so left? Getting reissue Sky Lynx will complete my cartoon Seasons 1-3 collection.

2 - A slow to arrive but cheap and in excellent condition Optimal Optimus
3 - Energon Landquake, really not impressed with the figure although everyone else seems to love it
4 - Micromaster Aerialbots... only saw (and got) one set in one store while I was in the US
5 - Got everything I was looking for
6 - In general good, but I don't like Automorph technology
7 - Good, and the best "role play" toys ever IMO
8 - Good, I want more classics toys
9 - Didn't get any of 2007's Japanese toys
10 - Non-transforming? Replicas, some titaniums, all the Robot Heroes (love those)
11 - I got some movie stationery
12 - I got the 2-disc DVD version
13 - Deluxe Animated Bumblebee - loved the character in the first episode

Aside from Fortress Maximus, my other G1 landmarks were F-1 Powerdasher and Camshaft - completing my Omnibot and Powerdasher collections! (now the only G1 mail-away I don't have is, that's right, effing Time Warrior!!) :p

1 - What was the total number (roughly, if you don't know)?

About 700 odd figures. Not counting merchandise. I aim to slow down this year as I plan on moving out as well as do some more travelling later in 08.

2 - What was your best acquisition for the year?

Hrm... tough one. Many to choose from.

Custom Ironhide. A combination of high quality paintwork and bargain price.

3 - What was your worst, or the thing you most regretted buying?

Gak... there were a few... but in most cases it was the price. I would have to say most of the TFM droneheads were immensely disappointing. the toys were just below par.

4 - Most difficult item to find?

2007 Botcon Set.I think I started seeking one out in March, not till September/October did I get them, I think.

5 - Item you never found, but still want?

Optimal Optimus.

6 - Were the Movie toys in general good or bad?

The line was good at the start but as it wore on, the figures became increasingly disappointing and hardly worth the effort it took to find them. The repaints are hurting the line. Heaps.

7 - Were the Real Gear toys in general good or bad?

Very good at first. However, the repaints again have rendered any enthusiasm for the line.

8 - Were the Classics toys in general good or bad?

Could've been better but G1 homages with great articulation would always be awesome even though the toys are only of average quality.

9 - Did you think the Japanese TFs in general this year were good or bad?

Not enough of them imo. I'd like more Beast War re-issues of the HTF ones like Rattrap, Terrorsaur etc; giving them show-accurate paint jobs. More Encores will be great too. What's been good so far is how they've surprised us with Sky Lynx. I hope their are more surprises on the way.

10 - Did you buy any non-transforming toys?

Yes, 3 statues, a bunch of Titaniums and Robot Heroes.

11 - Did you buy any officially licensed (non-toy) merchandise?

Nope. Not really. Actually, I did. I bought a Jazz holographic exercise book.

12 - Did you buy the Movie on DVD?

Aye. Two versions. Against my senses yes but I wanted the tin too.

13 - What are you looking forward to most in 2008?

Classics 2.0 and returning to collecting G1 and hopefully completing it in the course of the year. I have about 30-40 G1 figures I estimate. Most aren't cheap but G1 collecting never was.

The lack of good product on shelf and repaints will make it easier too since I won't be tempted by retail offerngs as much and divert money to the worthy cause of G1.

Hey, grass is always greener elsewhere, isn't it :) I only got 40 or so, but very happy with all of them because they were mostly classics and alts - two kind of transformers I really liked

2 - Best: MP Starscream
3 - Worst: Classics Ramjet for having very loose hips
4 - Most difficult: Alt. Rodimus
5 - Still want: Alt Shockblast
6 - Movie toys: Couldn't afford 'em :(
7 - Real Gear toys: Good. In general.
8 - Classics toys: Deluxe toys and above all great with one or two exceptions but none truly bad!
9 - Japanese TFs: Not sure, but the discontinuation of alts and minimal classics appearing seems a loss?
10 - Non-transforming toys: A viewmaster, so my niece would stop using my original one ;)
11 - Officially licensed merchandise: TF Monopoly and chess
12 - Buy the Movie: No. I rarely buy movies at all though.
13 - In 2008: More new Transformers animated! The first season is off to a decent start...

(O_O) You've acquired 700 Transformers in the last 12 months?!? On average that's nearly 2 (1.92 to be precise) Transformers for every day of the year! :o *speechless*

1. Total Number: 84 that I've kept (a few others were refunded or passed on to others)

2. Best Acquisition: Classics Jetfire as it grew my desires beyond the movie line and I think I have a non-sexual crush on the figure. I'm sure some might argue it was my recent $40 Fort Max.

3. Worst Acquisition: Leader Brawl... which has been returned, so might not count. Voyager Megatron is next.

4. Most difficult item to find: I didn't have too much trouble finding anything I wanted, but finding a fairly priced Classics Starscream was a pain in the ass.

5. Never Found but Want: Botcon 2007 Games of Deception - found it, but just not at an acceptable price relative to the amount of money I had at the time.

6. Movie Toys: good, but deteriorating

7. Real Gear Toys: don't know

8. Classics: good, and hopefully getting better!

9. Japanese Toys: don't know

10. Non-Transforming toys. No.

11. Licensed Merchandise: No, but some was given to me.

12. No

13. Classics 2.0

1. Total Number: ~250 (essentially all that i have bar 6 or so figs)

2. Best Acquisition: Legends Whirl & Evac - best toy mould out there :P

3. Worst Acquisition: probably b/bee unleashed (returned it today) - though not a tf, i also erred in getting a KO mini Menasor, which has now been dutifully mangled by my protege cousin

4. Most difficult item to find: TBH it would have been TRU Soundwave, didnt like me that toy

5. Never Found but Want: Botcon 2007 Games of Deception - found it, but just not at an acceptable price relative to the amount of money I had at the time.

6. Movie Toys: movie cast were great, but there are too many crap extras/repaints now

7. Real Gear Toys: good, but not to the point where repaints are worth buying

8. Classics: awesome, and i will be recollecting these (ty takara releases)!

9. Japanese Toys: no idea

10. Non-Transforming toys: Helmet, all the G1 robot heroes, custom G1 Quintesson prosecutor, all my 3" titaniums, one Attactix pack.

11. Licensed Merchandise: blow up punching bag, complete set of movie trading cards from a toy fair, old 80s catalogue, 86 movie, 86 music cd, 07 movie score, TF Monopoly.

12. Movie on DVD: Yes - transforming case :)

13. Classics 2.0, and knowing that as they dont come out for a long while i will be able to save some money :D

1 - What was the total number obtained for the year (roughly, if you don't know)?
About 20. Not including replacements.

2 - What was your best acquisition for the year?
BT-18 Ligier

3 - What was your worst, or the thing you most regretted buying?
Music Label Soundwave. It's a decent figure but basic MP3 player not worth the extra $80.

4 - Most difficult item to find?
None really. Classics Starscream eluded me for a while at a decent price. Thanks dirge (:

5 - Item you never found, but still want?
None. Maybe MP-1 at a decent price.

6 - Were the Movie toys in general good or bad?
Bad I thought. Only exception is BB08. Thanks Rampage :)

7 - Were the Real Gear toys in general good or bad?
Good. I only have the MP3 player one tho, Booster. If the rest were properly scaled I may have bought more.

8 - Were the Classics toys in general good or bad?
Good, but not really my thing, although I have about half (excluding the Botcon set, as I do)

9 - Did you think the Japanese TFs in general this year were good or bad?
Good. I don't collect G1 (anymore) but MP-5 and MP-6 were brilliant. BT-18 Ligier was cool. ML Soundwave was alright too. BT-17 Black Convoy was an absolute pass tho - even for $120.

10 - Did you buy any non-transforming toys?
No.

11 - Did you buy any officially licensed (non-toy) merchandise?
Some books. The Desk Top 3 piece set.

12 - Did you buy the Movie on DVD?
No. Waiting for the inevitable Blu-ray edition. Or maybe I'll wait for the trilogy set.

13 - What are you looking forward to most in 2008?
Besides the Macross 1/60 or Mospedia and Evangelion Rebirth lines? MP-7 Starscream (hopes) and any new MP releases. Maybe some Classics 2 and Animated figures if they are reasonably priced, if not - no big loss.

1 - What was the total number obtained for the year (roughly, if you don't know)?
A - Most of my collection was obtained during last year so that must be around around 300 toys

2 - What was your best acquisition for the year?
A - Fort Max, of course :)

3 - What was your worst, or the thing you most regretted buying?
A - Movie Leader Brawl, it was very dissapointing.

4 - Most difficult item to find?
A- Botcon 06 Megatron

5 - Item you never found, but still want?
A - G1 Skystalker!

6 - Were the Movie toys in general good or bad?
A - Autobots were very good. Decepticons were barely okay as many of its larger more expensive toys were a bit on the mediocre.

7 - Were the Real Gear toys in general good or bad?
A - I think they are good but I have not bothered to collect them.

8 - Were the Classics toys in general good or bad?
A- They were freaking awesome and as result I collected them all! However I am greatly annoyed as how Hasbro caused the remaining seekers to become Botcon exclusives.

9 - Did you think the Japanese TFs in general this year were good or bad?
A - They Japanese TFs in general were good and higher quality than Hasbro's although they loose points with Mp Greenscream. I apreciate MP Megatron and Skywarp however and look forward to more MPs.

10 - Did you buy any non-transforming toys?
A - I bought all of the released G1 robot heroes and several G1 Action Masters but I think that they qualfy as transforming due to the accessories.

11 - Did you buy any officially licensed (non-toy) merchandise?
A - Non retail but I gor the Club/botcon Exclusive Vector Sigma and Classics Poster thansk to Griffin.

12 - Did you buy the Movie on DVD?
A - Bought the DVD with the Transforming case but I also bought several other DVDs such as the Metrodome Japanese G1 series, the G1 movie and G1 Cartoons box set from Madman.

13 - What are you looking forward to most in 2008?
A - Classics 2.0, more reissues (such as Skylinx) and more Masterpiece figures. I also look forward to expanding my G1 collection particularly from years 87-90

1 - What was the total number obtained for the year (roughly, if you don't know)?
About 367. I started the year with 1475 and ended it with 1842, so the difference doesn't account for replacements or non-transformable items/figurines. I picked up 81 figurines and other items that don't count towards the collection last year, which is almost half of the 208 that I currently have.
2 - What was your best acquisition for the year?
Probably Dezarus (Takara Gen1) from BotCon. It wasn't too cheap, but it's a cult figure. A close second would be Browning (Takara Gen1 Gun), which snuck in before people started getting gun toys confiscated by Customs.
3 - What was your worst, or the thing you most regretted buying?
I'd probably say Leader sized Movie Megatron was the worst value figure. Or the Unleashed Turnarounds.
4 - Most difficult item to find?
Robovison Optimus. I saw it once before BotCon in June, but thought that I could pick it up cheaper while in America. I didn't find it at all anywhere while in America, even at BotCon, but by the time I got back home, I couldn't find it anywhere here either. Fortunately dirge came to the rescue by finding one in a Sydney store and holding onto it for about 3 months until I could get it from him in person.
5 - Item you never found, but still want?
A tie between Masterpiece Starscream and Final Battle Jazz. Never saw either of them in stores near me, and ended up importing MP Starscream about two weeks ago.
6 - Were the Movie toys in general good or bad?
Cast was too small, so too many of each one. The detailing was good, and the automorph was an okay gimmick as long as it didn't spoil the transformation too much by doing most of the work for you (the fun of Transformers for me is working out how to transform it on my own, without the help of instructions or Automorphing).
7 - Were the Real Gear toys in general good or bad?
Good to get more variety in the alt modes, and harks back to the early Gen1 gadget Transformers (like Reflector, Perceptor, Soundwave, cassettes, etc.), but Hasbro wasted the opportunity to use the RGs for Gen1 homages.
8 - Were the Classics toys in general good or bad?
The main figures (not the Minicons or Legends) was probably my favourite TF line behind Gen1, but just a bit ahead of Binaltech/Alternators. If Hasbro had known how popular these would be, I think it would have been a full series, with cartoon and merchandising. It's just a pity that there is an 18 month gap between the first and second series, but I'd be guessing Hasbro will relaunch the line with the first series re-released with the new figures.
9 - Did you think the Japanese TFs in general this year were good or bad?
Not a whole lot happened on the Japanese side of things in 2007, and it can't be blamed on the take-over by Tomy. We did get MP Skywarp and Megatron, Shoes, MP3 Soundwave, reissued Beast Wars and Gen1 figures, and a number of one-off items and recolours. There didn't seem to be much focus by TakaraTomy in 2007, so it could be difficult to reflect on that year in future for any one line or theme. It was a bit disappointing. And despite there being no significant focus this year (aside from the Movie), there were so many rarer one-off items that collectors like myself probably spent more than usual on JP figures last year.
10 - Did you buy any non-transforming toys?
Too many. When the figurines start becoming a major subline, it is difficult to ignore them or not collect them to keep up with the rest of the fandom. 2007 saw a massive surge in non-transforming figures, with Robot Heroes, Titaniums (which had been going for a couple of years now), Stompers, Revoltech and Unleashed. All to cash in on the expected peak in interest of the brand due to the movie. I just about bought everything from Hasbro, which look good on a display shelf, but very little was playable at all.
11 - Did you buy any officially licensed (non-toy) merchandise?
Not a fan of merchandise, but did get my hands on four of those coffee mugs (with the heat activated symbols and the hot chocolate) (awesome), some of the 'hand decorated' chocolates (yum), an advent calendar (yuck), Movie Ink stamp set (nice), Movie 'Secret Writing Set' (best purchase EVER!), Movie Playstation 2 Game (still haven't finished it yet).
12 - Did you buy the Movie on DVD?
Yep, all three AUS packaged versions. Still thinking about getting the HD DVD version, for the eventual purchase of a widescreen HD TV.
13 - What are you looking forward to most in 2008?
Classics 2.0 like most others. Also Animated to a degree. I am hesitant to jump on it too quickly, but I think the cartoon will draw me into the toys more. More JP reissues will be good, with the ones we so far know giving hope for other 'new' reissues (not reissued before).
Other things I'm aiming to do this year - go to BotCon, complete my Gen2 collection, aquire BotCon 94 Breakdown, Shafler, Grand Maximus and Black Zarak, and pass 2000 convertable figures. Plus complete my MOTU collection (100 of the early figures from the 80s), but details on that later... :)
