New Combiner Bruticus? (promo for new packaging)

I found this pic on TFW2005.com, looks to be the combiner Bruticus they intend to release, the one in the bottom right side. It looks like at least one part is a swindle type of transformer, but I guess wait and see when there is bigger pics

Okay so we're still getting Movie TFs, just not under the movie banner - many of whom could easily fit within the Classics line (Lockdown, Bludgeon, Seaspray). Clever idea, but it means fans who keep the different lines in different segments now may need to blurr the lines, or constantly swap them over. Or just buy two...

It's actually a henious plot by Hasbro to get us to by cases of TF's so that they are present in every line in every collection!

I don't know about Lockdown and Seaspray, but I only see Bludgeon as a movie-verse toy. Firstly the aesthetics are very movie-esque and wouldn't pass off as Classics to me. Secondly the packaging clearly identifies it as "Revenge of the Fallen" -- so this toy is gonna be living on my movie Decepticons shelf.

That's how I see it anyway.

I think you and I are probably the only two that sort our collections based on the packaging, and I mostly do it for the chronological archive element, making it easier to just shelve according to packaging.
Since many figures have been re-released in different packagings (from Euro/G2 to Cybertron/Universe, ROTF/Universe (combiners), and the upcoming ROTF/new TFs packaging), it can get messy allocating toys to just one series, based on the packaging. Especially when store exclusives are sometimes in Universe packaging, or a 'one size fits all' policy is used for marketting convenience (as Universe was, or the upcoming 'mid-movie' packaging looks to be).

I disagree with Bludgeon. Although he has movie detailings on his limbs the overall feel of the toy evokes it's G1 charatcer enough for me to place it in my Classics Shelf and to me, it would fit just fine - certainly better than other Universe packaged toys. Also it is not as if G1 Bludgeon fits well with the 1984-85 G1 toys.

Personally, since Hasbro has a tendency to place toys wherever they can fit them or based on a store demand rather than where the toy was originally intended as the designer's initial vision, I rather place them where I feel they fit best as clearly Hasbro does not place much importance in what goes in any particular line, at least not from a 'Transformers' point of view as their motivations are more marketing motivated.

A good example of 'Universe' releases that ended up as Movie were the Crankcase, Fracture (Crasher) and Big Daddy releases. It was said that the redecos were conceived for the Universe line as representations of their G1 characters (Gobots on one) but Walmart or some other store demanded more Movie toys so they were instead packaged as such.

Given that the decision of assigning a toy to a line is more motivated by marketing or store demands rather than proper thought on where the figure best fits from a design intention and character point of view - The package that Hasbro assigns it means very little to me, specially in the last couple of years. Another example on odd line assignations and why it would be hard to be strict about where hasbro places a figure are the Animated legends which were released in Universe Packaging while the Animated line was still on the shelf. It would be very hard for a strict 'package based' collector to assign them as Universe on the shelf instead of Animated as they would look very odd with Universe.

I personally prefer to make an educated guess in where the designer of the toy intended it to bellong when it's design/color scheme was conceived and assign it as such.

Bludgeon appears to be a design originally intended for Classics or at least as a direct representation or 'update' of the original character - There is some art work that does suggest this. It seems that only before a hard copy was due to be made, did they decide to put it in the movie verse and added certain detailing and somewhat peripheral movie features (such as mech alive) on his limbs to make it fit better.

Aside from Bludgeon's limbs and very 'added on' mech alive features - It is a very clunkly, square and blocky toy which does go against the mouch rounder and slim organic movie designs.

That's my 2c anyway.
