Behold! (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/animated-8/transformers-wonderfest-2010-display-images---japanese-animated-packaging-169128/)
The packaging for Animated doesn't really fit the overall theme, I think. It's too OMG SERIOUS.

I know what you mean . This is one time I prefer Hasbro's Packaging imagery over Takara's. Especially when you can stack the Hasbros pack on its side and still know who's there coz of the side image for each character. Only advantage of Takara's packaging ( as always) is its more compact and less space wasted.

I still like the packaging, its very Henkei in style, but looks quite nice.

I'm really liking the Animated toys, as stand alone toys, without trying to relate them to the cartoon or Hasbro's Animated toys.
Starscream with blue wings looks interesting.
Is it my imagination, or is it just the Autobots that have the shiny colours? If so, I may only need to buy them, and any Decepticons with varied colours (like Starscream).
They also have pics of the Gen1 coloured EZ/Legends Devastator in packaging, so we'll probably see that released by Hasbro (now that Takara have done all the work with the deco and packaging).
The Crystal Burning Fallen is getting more tempting - kinda wishing I didn't get the Hasbro version already.

I too noticed that and thought it was my eyes. Not that I will buy them, but they certainly look very interesting, and IMO, better than the Hasbro versions.

There seems to be an attempt at a promotional level to make Animated seem less kiddy. It's possible that they are trying to grab the older market along with the young.

I'm satisfied enough with the Hasbro releases that I won't be buying any of these. Their packaging (Hasbro) reflects the nature of the show nicely.

No Japanese Animated for me based on these pictures.
For once I dont like the added chrome finish, and the packaging doesn't look that great either.
I am also sad that Green Legends Devy comes in a box rather than the cards. As it means that I won't be getting him on release, waiting to find a loose complete version in the future.

Japanese Animated Cybertron Megatron looks great!
I'm a bit disappointed to see that there's no individual package art, just photos of the toys in alt mode instead. But as usual Takara's boxes aren't air-filled wastes of space like Hasbro's, which is always a good thing. :)

Just for those playing at home, that street scene was also used for the ROTF toys at the toy fare last year.
I notice hey are calling Optimus Prime "Optimus Prime" as opposed to the usual "Convoy"

Hasbro ones are more screen accurate, but ignoring that the TakaraTomy ones look so much better as stand alone toys... :( So shiny...

Noticed that too. Wouldn't mind having something like that at home... :D

The packagings seem to have a little more English on them than usual. They even state Deluxe Class, Voyager Class etc and have safety warning label in English... O_o

That's because all the movie Transformers are referred by their Anglophone names in Japan.
e.g.:
Optimus Prime = オプティマスプライム(not Convoy)
Bumblebee = バンブルビー(not Bumble)
Jazz = ジャズ(not Meister)
Scorponok = スコルポノック(not Mega Zarak or Scorpos)
Devastator = デバステイター (not Devastar)
Ravage = ラヴィッジ (not Jaguar)
Autobots = オートーボット (not Cybertrons)
Decepticons = ディセプティコン (not Destrons)
...et al.

I suspect that this was done to make the live action films easier to dub, because everytime someone says "Optimus Prime" their lips would be moving for four syllables instead of two for "Convoy" -- and I find that live action is harder to dub than animation. Movie Prime would also be harder to dub because he actually has lips! I remember Neil Kaplan saying that it was relatively a lot easier to dub Fire Convoy as Optimus Prime in RiD because he has no lips. :)

Yes, maybe I should have mentioned that I was referring to the Animated toys with my Prime vs Convoy comment.

Oh right. Yes, I was surprised too. Methinks TakaraTOMY wants Animated to ride on the coattails of the movie franchise's success. You'll notice that they've used the movie font for the Transformers Animated titles on the packaging.
