So it's my friend's son's 7th birthday soon and I've decided it's high time he got into Lego. I know a few of you are into Lego, so what's the best place to buy from?

This is the set I'm looking at getting: http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7248&cn=223&d=9

Ideally I'd like to buy it from somewhere in Australia and have it mailed to them. Tried Bricklink and eBay but had no luck.

I haven't even seen that in the stores. I'll check thursday when I go shopping. He wouldn't happen to be in Melb, would he? I wouldn't mind running the errand

Yeah, he's in Melbourne. Just off of High Street in Thornbury. Cheapest way I've found to do it so far would be about $32.50 shipped.

That's a cool set.
$32.50 seems pretty reasonable for it. My daughter who is eight has just made her first sets...some houses in the Creator line and a police chopper.
Creator ones are good because they give you three sets of instructions so you get some good practice in before making your own customs.

If he likes Star Wars as well there are some good sets and I've been seeing the Y-Wing around on special at $40.
I also have some listed on ebay and some more ready to list after Easter.

Unfortunately that's a set that seems to have been discontinued at the retail shops.

Have you thought about getting him two smaller sets instead?

What about:
http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7991&cn=356&d=9

and:
http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7741&cn=153&d=9

I think K-Mart has a sale tomorrow, and it's 40% off the second item from what I can recall. Not sure if it means you can get the cheaper of two different sets at 40% off, but might be worth trying.

Curious! I'm staying in the UK at the moment (hence not being around here much) and it still seems to be around.. I've found one on an online store for a hair over $20 (Aus) with free shipping to me, I think that'll be the best deal. It shouldn't cost too much to send on to Oz.

Another strange thing is Lego seems to be more expensive in Australia than Europe, yet Thomas The Tank Engine toys are over a third less.

Just got to make sure I can resist the urge to keep it myself. It's the Christmas 2006 Classics Astrotrain scenario all over again..

I would reccomend that Police Helicopter but theres 1 problem it cant fit 2 people in it unless you change 1 or 2 pieces so......
