Probably a US fan who has joined up and posted this advertisement at various TFs forums. (Registration procedure makes it impossible for a spambot to register and spam us)
Since it is TFs related news, above is a copy of the post in this news section.
It may well not be relavant for the majority here, but as jaydisc mentioned in another posting, it may interest someone - news doesn't have to interest the majority for it to be posted here.
(that said, the person who posted it, probably should have checked first if it was okay to post their advertisment here, as it could still be seen as spam, even if it is TFs related)

I apologize. I did not realize this would be considered spam. I am an American and I did post it. I figured it would be news. I am also the guy who am creating the convention and I wanted the whole world to know about it. I once again say sorry for this posting if it is against your rules.

Hi,

Sorry I apologize. The promotional nature of your first post through me off. Thanks for letting us know about Slag-A-Con

Slag a con? LOL!

Yes, IN. is Indiana, United States. I liked the name and it has a double meaning. Slag is a dinobot(G1)-A-Con (Convention). My actual meaning behind it was Slag as in destroy, A, Con as in Decepticon.

I am glad you guys are no longer mad at me. I was worried about it. I actually like getting on TF Fan sites from around the world to see the differences in toys and such. Thanks for accepting me to your site.

Chad

I don't think anyone was mad at you.

Slag is also a profanity for Transformers, so it can also mean "&$%# a 'Con!" ;D :p

As I was told today by someone in the UK, it means something else that I will not repeat.

I thought it meant ugly old woman.

40-50 dealers is quite impressive.

I thought it meant ugly old woman.

That, but only because its also used to describe women of loose morals and ladies of the night...

I thought the word "hag" referred to an ugly old woman (or "cosmetically challenged lady of advanced age" :p)

The word "slag" is a human term for women of dubious morals, but I was saying that in _Transformers_ language it's an expletive, used in a similar manner as the four lettered S-word for excrement or F-word for copulation.

e.g.:
"Aw, slag!"
"You sickening piece of slag!"
"You got to be slagging me."
"Slagging computer!"

The use of the word "slag" as an expletive by Transformers originated in G1 ("The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2"). (Reference (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Slag_%28slang%29))

It's also a derogative term towards females as well.

I have not posted here in a couple of days. I have been very busy with details about the convention. Stuff is starting to come together nicely. I have got a long way to go but I am happy with the way it is going.

Just curious. How did you work out the licensing from Hasbro?

transjazz
5th March 2010, 02:23 PM
I have not used anything of theirs. It stated on my website that it is unofficial. I have contacted them via-email and phone to which I have had no response. I am sending them a certified letter this time to ask for permission to use their product names.

I don't know how Hasbro USA works, but in my experience with Hasbro Australia you may be required to pay licensing fees. Hasbro's licensing fees are designed for businesses (e.g.: Jayjays) and are therefore incredibly expensive for an individual. For example, the cost for a licence to print a Transformers comic book is $10,000.

This is just based on my experience with Hasbro Australia -- Hasbro USA might work differently. Good luck either way. :)

They can also just give 'free' permission, if the event isn't intending to generate profit. They gave us permission a few times for our events without charging a fee.
The problem for an American convention though is the locallised existance of the official collector club, so Hasbro US may be less likely to authorise a 'Transformers' convention.
Perhaps contact the organisors of other TFs conventions in America to see if they had any problems with Hasbro.

The other thing - perhaps replace the name 'Transformers' with something more generic, as the usage of the actual brand name in your title could have Hasbro or the Official TFs Club (who paid a license to 'own' the TFs convention concept) jump on you. The other non-BotCon conventions appear to omit the TFs name (to not upset Hasbro or the Official Club), but still market themselves effectively as a Transformers convention.

Thank You Griffin,

I did send off an email to my web guy to actually get rid of the title banner as well as add a statement about Hasbro being the owner of all the trademarks and copyrights of names, figures and such. I hope this keeps the lawyers from beating down my doors.

I appreciate all the insight. It has helped me make changes where they were needed.

I am working on a deal with a local radio station to be a major sponser and have one of their DJs host and judge the karaoke contest.

GoktimusPrime
13th March 2010, 09:24 AM
Strictly Transformers Karaoke right? I'd be totally down for that. I sing TF songs in my car while driving. :D

transjazz
15th March 2010, 01:16 PM
Yes, strictly TF songs. TF show theme songs, 86' TF Movie Music, Live action Movie and ROTF Movie songs. I can not wait to see everyone that does this contest. I think it will be lots of fun!

There are lots and lots of TF songs from Japan. e.g. all the opening and ending themes for every series (and some series like Beast Wars II, BW Neo, BW Metals, Micron Legend, Galaxy Force etc. had a later variant opening/ending themes) as well as the Beast Wars (II) movie (e.g. "Get My Future").

transjazz
16th March 2010, 04:46 AM
I did not even think of those shows as sources for music.

GoktimusPrime
16th March 2010, 12:49 PM
Yeah, Japan has a wider range of vocal songs for Transformers. The Anglophone Beast Wars and Beast Machines themes were instrumental (the BM theme wasn't even written for Transfomers but taken off a Leftfield album) and virtually every other Anglophone TF theme is just some version of the G1 "More Than Meets The Eye" theme. So if you're gonna run a comp where a lot of people are gonna be singing say G1 MTMTE, RiD MTMTE, Armada MTMTE, Animated MTMTE etc. then it'd get pretty bland fast. Whereas the Japanese themes are all unique and distinct from each other. I know there's the language barrier thing, but honestly whenever I go to anime conventions - the majority of people singing Japanese anime themes don't speak Japanese but they're able to sing the theme songs.

Otherwise the judge(s) might be stuck listening to people's renditions of MTMTE and Linkin Park all day long! :D

Although thanks to movie Bumblebee there's a host of other songs that have appeared in Transformers...

transjazz

Dairycon, Botcon, Cybcon, Slagacon it is one of the US conventions. Seriously though I wish I knew more about the other exclusive figures but I have only been to Botcon. I have been to it five times so I am not the best to ask about any exclusives.
