View Full Version : Tell me what to add to my collection!

Guys, I need some advice. I feel like adding a new 'bot to my ranks, but I'm not sure what.
Think I am fancying something from G1 (or BW?).
I like figures that are a little bit... different, are based on interesting characters and designs, and I'm a bit of a fan of articulation (strictly for posing, not for playing with! :D) Examples like:
Snapdragon & Apeface (triple changing headmasters -- wow!)
Magmatron (3 beasts, 1 robot -- awesome)
Season 1 Optimus Primal (how much articulation and weapons can one 'bot have?)
G1 Bruticus (all time fav gesalt)
...have previous quenched my appetite, but now am feeling a little uninspired.

Some of the ones I have been thinking about are:
reissue G1 Skywarp/thundercracker 2 pack (on sale ATM)
G1 Quickswitch
Sixshot (probably too expensive though & bit of a brick in 'bot mode)
Abominus (a little bit over collecting gesalts though; too many peices & too expensive)
Predaking (see above)
G1 Sunstreaker
Octopunch
Doubledealer ('bot mode brick?)
G1 Whirl

Any suggestions?
Should also mention that my budget is NOT unlimited.
All thoughts and comments greatly appreciated.

:confused:Maybe Lioconvoy from the Japanese BW line as it's a very nice figure:)

If you like figures a little bit different, I'd go for a G1 Sunstreaker as he's never been reissued and not likely to be either. Second-hand prices are somewhere between US$80 - US$140 for a complete one and based on condition (I use US dollars as I do most of my buying from Ebay).

Sixshot is much better than Quickswitch. The possible forthcoming reissue of Sixshot may be worth waiting for. Doubledealer is a great toy too IMHO but yes a brick.

Some extra suggestions:
RID Megatron (10 modes at least! )
JRX/Rail Racer from RID (you can get the JRX set for not too much)

If you want different then you should get Injector :)

Though Sunstreaker is a good choice, you have to be careful because he has been KO, and a pretty convincing one at that.

Predaking would satisfy your beastly desires but yeah, is pretty expensive even if your considering the reissue but obviously complete, there's one on eBay is aus for 450 now but that's some pricey plastic

But that's a biased opinion, he's my favourite gestalt and in the top 5 fav tfs of all time. I have 2 :D One set of MIB Takara foamy goodness and a loose one I just recently repro'd

Thanks for the suggestions.
LioConvoy - bit of a fan of this one, but he's a bit pricey.
Sunstreaker - will keep sniffing around ebay for a bargin.
RID Megatron, RailRacer, Fort Max - don't like.
Injector & Optimal Optimus - already have both.
TM2 Megatron - have wanted this since first saw tv show, but now not sure...
Predaking - thought about collecting seperately, but now not sure either.

Having said all that and after wasting most of my spare time of the past couple of days, I have decided that I must have both SIXSHOT and Quickswitch.

Unfortunately, as a species, we humans seem to have run out of Sixshot figures. And what few can be found either have no guns (whats the point?) or are priced into the hundreds of USD. At least it will be a challenge to acquire one.
There are a few Quickswitch figures on the 'bay though.

Paulbot - where did you hear of this "possible forthcoming reissue" of Sixhsot?

Anyone want to sell me either of their's? :D:D

The news (or rather rumour) of Sixshot and Predaking were reported here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/new-reissues-for-hong-kong-169083/).

Predaking - thought about collecting seperately, but now not sure either.I have both (they're the 'ones I always wanted as a kid' from original G1 and BW respectively) and despite Predaking's notable brickiness they're great. If I had to I could give up most of my other TFs but I don't think I could ever quite bring myself to let go of either of these 2.

Hmmm, high praise indeed.

I read the TFW2005 threat about possible reissue. My problem is, when I decide I want something, I want it now! I sometime don't have much patience like that. If I can't get it straight away I will check websites daily until I get it. Its a character flaw, I know.

I think that's the reason why most of us are here :D It's a form of therapy... AAA for Transformerholics.

I just snapped up the Encore seekers as they're an absolute steal in the current HLJ sale. They're probably the safest bet as they're cheap and you get two great toys.

I'm obviously biased towards Doubledealer as I love the fact that, like TFA Lockdown, he's a powerful gun-for-hire who also happens to be one of the more unique triplechangers with 2 excellent alt modes and an imposing robot mode. He looks fantastic, has great colours and will surely not disappoint if you can get one in good nic for around AU$100-120.

Abominus is one of the larger gestalts and while the individual bots are a bit disappointing, the combined mode is magnificent! Like you say, he can be expensive but he will really add to the overall look of your Decepticon army.

I don't have him but I think you're other suggestion of 'Octopunch' is another really good one that won't disappoint. I'm generally not a fan of the Pretenders (Beast ones are cool though!) but this guy just looks really fun!

I know I go on about them but do you own the 3 smaller Decepticon Headmasters (Horribull, Fangry and Squeezeplay) and the 3 Autobot monsterbots (Grotusque, Doublecross and Repugnus). If not, buy them as they are all ridiculously brilliant!

Really? Are they that good? I never really considered them much. Maybe I'll have a look into them.

One day I will get a Doubledealer, and yes I'm very tempted by the HLJ sale price of the seekers. But unfortunately now I think all my funds now are going towards Sixshot.

Klystron, at the risk of appearing extremely self-serving (actually I am :D), I include links to my recently posted Decepticon Headmasters and Monsterbots for your viewing:

Horri-Bull, Fangry and Squeezeplay (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/03/hey-junior-junior-decepticon.html)

Grotusque (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/03/monsterbot-grotusque-mib.html)

Doublecross (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/03/monsterbot-doublecross-mib.html)

Repugnus (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/03/monsterbot-repugnus-mib.html)

I agree with doubledealer on Octopunch too. I like him and think that there is a lot of mystery behind that diving helmet of his. Incidentally, because I bidded on multiple auctions at the same time, I'm going to have a spare Octopunch to sell quite shortly (another self-serving comment :D)

***

My suggestions are:

+ Roadbuster (lots of parts, solid 'Transformer', hours of fun);
+ Punch/Counterpunch (in some ways, unique like Doubledealer).

Forgive me Primus, for I have sinned...
Last night I bought a KO Sixshot. Yes, yes, I know. But in my defence I was a little bit drunk. It really did seem like a good idea at the time. Such a good idea in fact, that I got a Doubledealer as well. :(
In the cold harsh reality of the morning, I managed to justify it to myself like this --
I can now buy one of the cheap(ish) Sixshot figures off ebay that are missing the 2 guns, clean him up, add some reprolabels and the ko guns, and wholla! :o
And my 10yo has expressed some interest in the doubledealer.

The lesson from this is not to shop online under the influence.

Thanks for those links too, HD! Quite like the look of Doublecross and Horri-Bull
