Is it just me or has all the excitement and expectation gone from the up and coming third movie. I was so bitterly dissappointed with the last lot of tripe that was called Revenge of the Fallen that my expectations are for a complete lemon to complete the downward spiral of my favourite sentinent mechanincal beings:(

Probably because there isn't really alot of talk about it right now. It may pick up towards the end of the year I reckon. Me, I still look forward to it in any case.

So as soon as we start seeing trailers etc that's when the hype begins

I love the first movie so despite RotF being a disappointment (to put it mildly) I'm still excited and hopeful about Transformers 3. And if it is crap, at least we'll have a buncha new toys again to soften the blow. :p

haha, so tru so tru, I totally agree with u, even if it was crap, at least we get more toys, that's wat I'm reli in it for, but if u dont expect much from movie... u may enjoy it more (if u expect too much, u're more likely to be disappointed as it doesnt live up to ur expectations), I just like watching the movies to see the robots, all I hope for is a more coherent plot (at least da first movie's plot wasnt all ova da place)

I don't get excited till we get to the home stretch, which is usually about 4-2 months before release. It was the same for ROTF. ROTF might lower my expectations a little, but hey it's Michael Bay I never had great expectations going into the previous TF movies, Just seeing TF's on the big (or really big) screen got me excited. If the third movies crap and we get to a fourth movie, then hey by then the novelty might be gone, but it's not gone yet.

Besides generally speaking IMO TF fiction has been declining all across the spectrum these days.

Given how the 1st movie was a success, Bay probably got over confident and went too much his own way in the 2nd one. Hopefully he learnt something from the reactions to the 2nd one, and the 3rd won't be as bad.

That's something I am skeptical of. Bay learning anything.

I started this thread because there was a lot more HOOHA this far out from the first movie, not so much with the second, it just seems to me it's getting less talked about by the Fans in general. I was utterly disgusted in the way Prime was turned into hunt them down and kill them type of leader, if they wanted that sort of thing they should have brought in Grimlock as he has the violent tendancey towards that sort of thing and making Jetfire a gerriatric was another dissappointment for me in the second movie.

The problem is TF3 doesn't need to be a good movie because alot of people will go to see it no matter if it reviews well or not. ROTF sold outrageously well in spite of the movies flaws so the studio has no reason to change the quality of the franchise.

It's a bit hard to be excited about a film that is so far off, but I'm sure there'll be new excitement as the time draws nearer.

The first and second movies I took days off to see them, it's not happening for the third one unless some miracle happens like Michael Bay gets sucked into a Black hole and needs to be replaced:D

zOMG... if Warpath were a movie director he'd be POW Michael Bay, BLAM!

Oh wait... minus all the smut and needless drug references.

Considering that the second movie was a bigger success than the first, if the 3rd one is 'as bad', the people invested in it (Paramount, Hasbro, Bay) will be more than happy with that same winning formual. Box office takings is all that matter to those people, which also determines the future direction of the franchise.

Even if Michael Bay felt there were things wrong with the movie, he (and the other interested parties) won't risk messing with what worked in drawing in the record crowds.
It's just a necessary evil that we end up benefiting from, due to the greater funding now allocated to the toyline, giving us a greater range of toys and a better chance of finding figures that interest us.

I agree with those that are excitedly and optimistically looking forward to the next chapter, when it starts leaking info and teaser trailers. The movies have still been a bit of fun, and entertaining, and I just don't over-estimate my expectations of them.
After all, I love the 1986 movie, but critics and patrons passed on it at the time - and how would fans have reacted to it if the internet existed back then?

GoktimusPrime
19th March 2010, 08:47 PM
Yup... money talks and BS walks. As griffin said, while TFTM has become a cult classic with fans, it tanked at the box office. The live action movies made truckloads of money with ticket sales -- time will tell if fans will continue to think of it fondly in years to come.

and how would fans have reacted to it if the internet existed back then?
George Lucas made a similar point when the prequel trilogy came out (especially Phantom Menace) which copped heaps of flak from fans. Lucas said that when Episode IV first came out in 1977 a lot of fans were already complaining about See Threepio whom they criticised as a rather needless robot who just walked around all the time whinging and complaining (or as MAD Magazine called him, a "<camp> robot")... but most people didn't hear about these complaints because the internet didn't exist back then (at least not for public use). Lucas said that the crucial difference between fan reactions towards See Threepio and Jar Jar Binks is that Jar Jar Binks came out at a time where fans had the internet that they could use as a massive soapbox. Sometimes when I talk to younger people who were kids when Episode I came out, they often remember Jar Jar Binks fondly as a fun comedic character. Quite different to those of us who were adults at the time and just found him irritatingly annoying.

But to Lucas' credit he did take fan opinion on board and significantly reduced the role and screen time for Jar Jar Binks in Episodes II and III... so perhaps Michael Bay could take a similar cue and try to alter some of the less popular decisions from the first two movies for the third one?

Yes, I'm an optimist. :) (cos the realist in me is reminding me that the amount of crude humour was significantly higher in the second movie compared to the first)

After RotF and how it's taken over the franchise, I don't think I'll be particularly hyped for TF3. We had different stuff between the first film and RotF, but now it's MovieMovieMovie everywhere.

Also RotF was kind of lame.

Despite this, I'll probably think the teaser trailer is pretty cool.

To be qualified as good move by my standard, the following must be "true":

1, The heads of robots look handsome.
2, Robots talk more than humans.
3, No skids anymore.
4, US army cannot kill transformers.
5, Combiners' arms and legs can transform too.
6, No duplicate robots, one long haul combining here, another long haul hanging around there.
7, All robots must transform in the scene.

I am very confident none of these will be true.

Although G1 the combiner limbs could transform and 99% of the episodes also did not contain any trace of Skids.

And what - you don't think G1 Sunstreaker, Powerglide and Tracks are handsome? :p

Oh great so the TF movie will be even more Hollywood and only cast handsome Transfomers. I can see it now all the Autobots will have strong jaw lines and cleft chins, and unwrinkleable forheads. No doubt Prime's exterior chassis will be ripped inn the course of battle exposing his robo abs for all to see. And I don't even want to know what Michael Bay will have planned for the new look Arcee.:D

Revenge of the Fallen was great!

Packed so much new and improved cannon into the Transformers. In comparison the first movie was nothing but a prequel for this epic story. Okay, some of the comedy and human interest parts were dis-jointed, not really as cool as they could have been... but Optimus Prime finally grew a pair.

This movie finally made sense of the power struggle between Autobots and Decepticons, it finally investigated the the power struggle between humans (americans) and Autobots. It had everything in epic quantities and I don't know if it will ever be topped.

And if the next GI Joe movie can drop it's 'romantic comedy dressed up as an 80's cartoon w/ special effects' style as brilliantly as Revenge of the Fallen did, then it will be awsome.

I can't believe that we got so many classic characters. Fast pace, complex storylines that aren't over explained or dumbed down... and people still complain.

Sardonic? I wouldn't have a clue what this means. My first guess was Sarcastic/ Moronic... but then why the 'd' in the middle?

Either way I saw ROTF when it came out and I really enjoyed it. I think that it is miles ahead of what I expected as a sequal. The first movie was great (and I was one of those people who pretty much got dragged back into my childhood when watching it) but ROTF was it's superior in every way.

Different people have different opinions nothing more nothing less, I'm sure there are movies I like that people will go "Your kidding you like that trash". I got out where the wild things are last night to watch, I enjoyed the movie but remember the book as something different when I was a kid. From my point of view it was very heavy going, I'm not sure what demographic this was aimed at, it was to heavy for young kids from what I could tell. I'm sure some people on here will have a difference of opinion on this movie from me but it has nothing to do with nitpicking;):)

You can't argue with the media, especially MTV. ROTF has been nominated for 6 awards (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/298172-voting-open-mtv-movie-awards-2010-a.html) -

Best Movie -Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
Best WTF Moment - Isabel Lucas, We've been decepticoned.
Best Ass Kicking Star - Shia LaBeouf
Best Female Breakout Star - Isabel Lucas
Best Female Performance - Megan Fox
Best Male Performance - Shia LaBeouf

Forget the Razzies and Oscars, this is where it's at :D
