Hmmmm.... not too sure what to think of this development, I am sure with the right script and team he should do well. I remember LMAO when Heath was cast as The Joker!
The First Avenger: Captain America released 22nd July, 2010

Knew he was in talks, I will be a bit skepitcal until I see footage. I think he could pull it off though. I look forward to Weaving as Red Skull though. Marvels movies of late have turned out to be wicked, lets hope it continues.

I shudder at the thought of a Capt America movie (even as a little boy, I thought this was a character so lame, it should be discontinued; now that I'm (much) older, I think even less of the character).

You mean the thought of a 'new' movie, there was a straight to video and limited theater release one done in 1992, though I have not seen it.

When was the last time you read a Captain America comic?
I was very sceptical of the character at a younger age, 'blah blah captain america stupid patriotic crap!!' until I decided to read Avengers: Disasembled, he then began growing on me, then came Civil War, my love for Steve Rogers really came out during that, who the character truly is, what he stands for etc.

I never had much time for Captain America but Ed Brubaker's run on the comic has been excellent.
The only downside to this casting I can see is that it makes a cameo from the Fantastic Four movie cast in the Avengers movie a bit less likely. (Although I think I heard a rumour about a F4 movie reboot too).
Also thumbs up to shirtless pictures of Chris Evans ;)

Yeah was going for a 'has the body of Cap' look, glad you like it!
and on the fantastic 4 cameo, it cant happen as Fox own the rights to create and distribute F4 movies, sucks i know :(

I heard about the reboot as well, they wanted to go a more darker style that made Sin City, Batman, and Watchmen brilliant.
gantz
23rd March 2010, 04:25 PM
The reboot was only announced essentially to keep the rights to the F4 movies, because if they hadnt announced it or had a press release regarding them, the rights would have gone straight back to Marvel.
and on the topic of a darker F4, wouldnt that basically defeat the purpose of the F4??? I mean, its not exactly grrity like Bats or Wolverine, its about a fantastic family with awesome super powers, what're they gonna do? have the baxter building replaced with some run down residintial apartment block in the Bronx?!?!

Who knows what goes through their minds. I think they want more dark overtones, not so much the environment they are in.

Yeah thats for sure! sorry, What I meant was with the 'Bronx' setting would come the darker overtones.
Also I believe thats why the reboot of Spiderman is on the fast track and was announced immediatley. so the rights wouldnt revert back.
Now back to Cap, its going to be interesting to see how they make Evans look before the Super Soldier Serum.

Well he is only just cast, but I want to see him in the suit. But we will have to wait a while I reckon, they want to keep the hype on Iron Man 2 (even though it has more hype than ever before)
Little off topic, but I want to see what Thor will look like as well dammit lol.

if you wanna see a little sneak peek at perhaps what Thor may look like, check out the movie 'The Getaway Plan' Hemsworth sports a rough beard and is REAL buff in it, the whole movie I was just thinking THOR!
Hopefully the suit for Cap will be more like the Ultimates costume.

I have read Avengers: Disassembled, Death of Captain America, Civil War, and most of the (rather) forgettable Marvel mega-crossovers of late. To the extent that Capt America is featured or focused on, he's no more remarkable a character than I remember (I did also read all the early Capt America stories especially almost the entire regular series, including crossovers, from the mid 80s to the late 90s).
So, no, I'm not taking pot-shots in the dark.
It saddens me to say this since I grew up with Marvel (and Capt America too), but to truely understand how mediocre Marvel really is nowadays, one can only compare its title with its competitors.
I offer the following DC titles/series to compare against (recognising that a one for one, like for like comparison is not possible): Identify Crisis, Blackest Night, the Green Lantern Saga (including Rebirth, Secret Origin and so on), All-Star Superman, All Star Batman & Robin, Batman: Hush, Superman: For Tomorrow, Superman/Batman: Supergirl, The Search for Kryptonite (and the entire Jeph Loeb run), Justice League of America: The Tornado's Path and The Lightning Saga; Y the Last Man, Fables, Air, The Sandman.
Who knows, lightning may strike and the Capt America movie may become as runaway sucessful as Iron Man, but I'm certainly not holding my breath for this one.

Captain America is one of my favourite comic charaters. I hope this will be decent. :)

Heh, I'd like to see what happens if they ever make an Avengers x Fantastic Four movie (improbable I know).
But surely nothing can ever beat the original Captain America movie! The new Captain America needs to keep all the classic features from the first movie such as...
http://content.internetvideoarchive.com/content/photos/089/00376735_.jpg Fashionable motorcycle helmet!
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x270/servewithchips/cap2_1970s.jpg Irrepressible plastic shield!
Sexy American motorcycle (w/ pr0n music!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da7MRzF8pJ0)
I hope that in the WWII epilogue they show Captain America wearing his Ultimate WWII costume (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2532/4030368156_f2e6216566.jpg). :)

Well Ryan Reynolds is both Deadpool and Green Lantern. Can't see why this one wouldn't work if he play Captain America. Besides, I doubt Chris would be Human Torch if the remake goes ahead.

Meh, recycling the same actor to play different roles in the same franchise/continuity does happen. Like Freema Agyeman who played both Adeola Oshodi (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Adeola_Oshodi) and Martha Jones (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Martha_Jones) in Doctor Who. But in this case it wasn't too much of a problem as Addy was an expendable character who died within the story she appeared in (whereas Martha Jones was a recurring character as the Doctor's companion and later as a member of Torchwood). Doctor Who continuity does state that Addy and Martha are cousins who happen to bear a strong visual resemblance (bloody strong resemblance! Never met cousins who looked like identical twins! :p But still, at least it's an attempted explanation rather than just dismissing it).
So erm... maybe in the Marvel movie universe Johnny and Sue Storm are descendants of Steve Rogers (like grand-nephew and niece perhaps?).
I also hope they put in a few jokes from the Ultimates, like the culture clash between Steve and the other Avengers.
e.g.:
+ during a discussion about who would play who in an Avengers movie someone recommended Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (who laughs and approves of this suggestion) and afterwards suggests that Bruce Lee could play Janet Pym (Wasp), who takes offence and goes off on a "you think Asians all look the same" rantage -- Captain America then interjects with, "Who's Bruce Lee?" :D
+ Steve Rogers, unable to work a CD player, has to go to extra trouble to track down a vintage record player and re-purchase his entire music collection on vinyl. He is later devastated when his home is burgled and his record collection is stolen!
+ When Captain America first reawakes he freaks out at seeing Nick Fury - a black man in uniform - and immediately believes he's been captured by enemies (he later apologises and states that while he's not a racist, it's simply not the America he knew :))
...ya know, all the crazy crap that happens when you jump from 1945 to 2010 without any knowledge of what's happened in between. :D
Well Ryan Reynolds is both Deadpool and Green Lantern. Can't see why this one wouldn't work if he play Captain America.
Deadpool is Marvel while Green Lantern is DC, so it's highly unlikely that the two characters will come in contact with each other in the movie universe. Whereas Captain America and the Human Torch are both Marvel, and with Marvel now actively tying in their movies within the same continuity there is a possibility that they could come in contact with each other. Even if they don't it could be argued that they exist in the same universe yet look identical.
This was the same case with Addy and Martha in Doctor Who -- the two characters were never seen in contact with each other, but writers still felt the need to explain why two women in the same continuity would look identical^very similar. :)
