It's full of new footage and highlights a few characters who barely appear in the original show.

Maybe TFA Japan will not be a straight dub. Perhaps it will be more like Headmasters? The thought is very exciting.

Oh and I think Japan's getting that Ironhide toy for sure now.

That is one cool beginning. It makes me want to watch that show! Even... though... I've already seen it. I wonder how much they will change it in order to make it fit into the Movie Universe - that doesn't sound like an easy task. Paulbot's right - it would be great if they even used new animation for the series. Interestingly, there's a lot of Ironhide in the opening credits considering he's never on Earth in the US version and that - rumour has it - Bulkhead is actually Ironhide in the Japanese version. (Ironhide will probably be called Armorhide.)

But yes - awesome intro.

The quality of the clip on my phone is poor but am I right in saying there's no sign of Sari. Is she with the Autobots at the end?

No Sari, you're right. And who's the weird black caped ghost thing at the beginning?

SilverDragon

Okay, so on one hand it spoils basically the entire series except for Sari and shows character interaction between a bunch of ones who don't ever meet in the series.

On the other hand, the animation is kickarse and the song is epic.

don't care for it much, typical anime intro. WTF is with cape dude?

Wow, that is a really good opening ... that has almost no relevance to the actual on screen events at all.

That was AWESOME!(even if half of it had no relevance to the Animated we saw.)

I agree with Gutsman Heavy. It is a very typical anime intro which I am not a fan of.

The first 25 seconds or so is just confusing.

The rest of the intro is actually done quite well, and I would even say it's better than the US opening.

Good to see that Arcee features heavily in the intro as well.

What's with the 'Transformers Animated' title at the end? It's like they just wanted to come up with a crazy new font... weird.

Paulbot

It occurs to me that the reason we see so much of Arcee and Ironhide is to sell their toys: since they don't appear in many episodes they need the extra screentime.

I'm still hoping to learn Animated Japan is new stories in Animated style (fingers crossed). Afterall how can the opening credits leave out Sari given her importance. Fanzone, Sumdac, the villains... Sure leave them out but Sari and her AllSpark Key is an interesting exclusion. Has she been seen in any other Japanese promotions for the show or have the promotions just shown the Japanese versions of the toys?

Where are our Japanese speakers to tell us what they say at the start?

Tober

That was cool. :)

I also noted the lack of Sari and the weirdish inclusion of Omega, but the Japanese have a very different attitude towards 'spoilers' (eg The Japanese trailer for the '86 movie showed Unicron transforming).

Sari didn't feature in the US version of the opening either.

I think it's funny that during the actual animated sequences, it looked like they went to the effort of subtly only showing Omega Supreme coming up from the bottom of the screen as if he's merely the Autobots' ship... and then they went and put him in the big group robot-mode shot at the end. <shakes head>

Wow! That was a mighty impressive intro! Interesting to see that they show parts of Earth _other_ than Detroit -- anyone else notice Sydney Harbour at 1:06? ;)

It was funny seeing that last split second of that TF Animated toy commercial at the very start. :p

Masticating.

Anyway, here's what the opening dialogue epilogue intro beginning thingie:
「や!良い子の皆!元気かな?私はオートボットのリーダー、オプティマスプライムだ。へっ、覚えられない? じゃ、もう一回言うぞ;私はオートボットのリーダー、オプティマスプライムだ。皆よろしくな。さあ、トラン スフォーマーアニメイテッドの始まりだ。トランスフォーム!」

Which means:
"Hey, all you good children! Feeling good? I am Autobot Leader Optimus Prime. Huh, can't remember that? Well, I'll say it again; I am Autobot Leader Optimus Prime. Nice you to meet you all. Right, now Transformers Animated will begin. TRANSFORM!"

Interesting... it's the first time a Japanese TF cartoon has ever used Anglophone Transformer names. Not too surprising considering that they used the Anglophone names for the Japanese translations for the live action movies and subsequent toys and merchandise - so Japanese kids would be familiar with them now. But I think they added this spiel in to help further acclimatise kids to the name "Optimus Prime," which doesn't roll off the Japanese pallette as well as "Convoy." I must admit it's really weird to hear Anglophone names being said in the middle of Japanese dialogue! (it would be equally strange hearing Japanese names being said during English language dialogue (like "Joe Convoy" - although that name was intentionally created as tongue in cheek ;)).

agrees with PB that this might actually be a different dub compared to US released

The intro matches the theme of the overall 'less kiddy' Japanese advertisement for Animated. The Japanese appear to be trying to promote Animated as a more mature (as in wider audience) and cooler show than something just for small kids.

It will be interesting to see what changes they do for the dub or if there will be a Japanese Season 4 in which they take the series where they want to go like in Headmasters.

I think that was wishful thinking. Now that I've actually read up what's been said about the show it does seem to be just a dub. :(

The opening also shows battles in Paris, Osaka, Moscow, Giza, and Washington DC. Not exactly show accurate. ;)

Maybe the intro shows what the Japanese wanted Animated to be :)

It is very doubtful but one could always hope for a Japanese Exclusive 4th season depicting the scenes seen in the intro.

Hell with that intro, its how I wanted Animated to be! Awesome sauce!

It absolutely s**ts on the US opening IMO :p :D

Too bad it looks like its gonna be a dub. Heard rumours that it was going to pick up where s3 left off, but thats highly doubtful considering what i've read.

I personally don't like how every US Transformers opening theme is some variation of the G1 "More Than Meets The Eye" song. (-_-) Lack of originality much? :/

Well they do need to start from the beginning considering that the Japanese audience hasn't been exposed to Animated yet.

*shrug* Remember that back in G1 the Japanese did continue well after the US cartoon was cancelled. Powermasters (Godmasters), Seacons, Firecons, Pretenders, Micromasters etc. all appeared in the JP cartoon. I guess it depends on how successful Animated is and whether or not it will justify the Japanese to commission sequels.

But even if the Japanese only stick with dubbing the US series -- how awesome would it be if TakaraTOMY started making toys for characters that Hasbro have given up on?
e.g.: Omega Supreme, the Constructicons, Wasp (with retooled head), Perceptor... and I'd personally like to see toys for some of the human characters. A Sari action figure would rock (even if it's just a retooled/repainted Microman figure; hey, they did it for Kicker and Gamede!). Even if they just released some non-poseable PVC figurines of Sari, Isaac, Fanzone etc., I'd totally get them. :) Hell, I'd even consider getting Professor Princess (if it were cheap enough :p)

Yeah, it's not completely implausible that they could continue Animated beyond season 3. They did it for Beast Wars as well. And obviously they've found a studio that can capture Animated's style.

I'm curious to see if they chop out any of the human villains, or change the tone of the show like Beast Wars did. :o

I wouldn't mind that at all. For me, the low point of TFA was the human villain storylines. I guess that's why I liked season 3 so much - there weren't any.

The Sydney Opera House, then the battle underwater.

I could be wrong, but right near the very end was there a bit on an air battle (Megatron I think) with Centrepoint Tower in the background, or was it another cities skyline?

Might not match up to anything in the series, but that was a nice anime intro.

I love this song... I absolutely love Kageyama Hironobu and Mizuki Ichiro's work (and I also enjoyed Kitadani Hiroshi's opening for Super Link, but I'm not familiar with his work outside of Transformers).

For those who may not know, Kageyama Hironobu also performed the opening and ending themes for The Headmasters:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYA3FCDCvyE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYbVXRvz-Eo
And Dragonball Z fans would know that he also did a lot of themes for DBZ such as:
Cha La Head Cha La (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG3NXDWm3uE)
We Gotta Power (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgKcnKkr3lo)

Most of you would know that Mizuki Ichiro did the themes for Transformers Zone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS5KQj87tNk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDOiQSrTjto

Gatchaman fans would know that he also did the theme for Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (aka Battle of the Planets/Eagle Riders/G-Force):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjuN5Bn-RCo&feature=related
As well as the 1995 OVA remix:

I wanna get the Japanese Animated album! :D

It was crazy, typical of giant robot anime intros. Very impressed. They had female Starscream in it too, so I'm praying she finally gets a toy made by Takara down the track. That's all I want, the other unmade characters I could care less!

That is what i thought, i saw as well.... The "Centrepoint Tower" though it could just representation of Sudamac Tower

and for a moment i also thought that i saw the "Sydney Harbour Bridge" there to... but, after examining that bit more it looks like, it could be just a roof on a building .:o:D ( that sign on the front of it is really confusing me.:D)

Actually that's Tsuutenkaku Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ts%C5%ABtenkaku) in Osaka. :)

I tried identifying the locations in the TFA opening, here's what I think they are:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/tfa_opening_locations.jpg
A: Looks like Sydney CBD (near Ultimo), but I think there's a building in New York City that looks like that too. It's probably meant to be NYC.
B: London
C: Paris
D: Osaka
E: ?????
F: Great Wall of China
G: Giza
H: Sydney
I: Atlantis
J: Washington D.C.

Paulbot

E is Moscow as far as I can tell. You can see more of the background in other frames.
