Seibertron is reporting on what is to be remold of Armada Unicron to make him more G1 for Tak-Tom's Transformers: 2010 line. I suspect that we may get something similar (but not as nice) to what we have seen from RumbleFrenzy and other customizers.

There is also unconfirmed speculation/rumor of the possibility of an MP Rodimus to be released as celebration for Transformers: 2010

If this Unicron is anywhere near close to his G1 incarnation, he will be minez.

A new Masterpiece mold is always a good thing and I haven't got a Unicron yet  (mostly due to eBay prices ) so this looks like the perfect excuse to get one. :D

I'm very curious as to an MP Rodimus but a repaint of Armada Unicron with a Remolded head? that's just unfair to those who've spent upwards of $100AUD in acquiring the Armada Unicron but then I suppose at some point every collector will be hit with something like that, It's my first time and I hate it!!! :p

What's the difference between G1 unicron and Armada one?

They are both very similar but there are differences although reasonably subtle. The main difference is in the chest detailing and small paint apps throughout. Naturally the toy has extra kibble that the G1 character model does not have but that can be forgiven as its not unusual for there to be differences between a toy and character model. The toy needs to physically transform while the other has the freedom to defy physics.

Due to the close similarities between Armada Unicron and the G1 character model, the former is still an excellent standin for G1 Unircron.

I will need to see what they pull of with this remold/repaint of Unicron before I consider buying it.

Yes, every fan who has been collecting for a while is bound to have something they bought for a premium, be re-released or reissued for less. Even something recent like MP or Henkei re-releases this last year, would probably bug some who payed heaps last year, but feel for those who paid big bucks for Gen1 or JP Gen1 toys, only to have cheap reissues this decade.

There has been further confirmation of the Unicron redeco and MP Rodimus on TFW.

S250 has also posted an interesting comment on his Twitter account. In it, he confirms the earlier information we reported about a redeco of Armada Unicron being released in September, and suggests it is a part of the Takara-Tomy Transformers Celebration 2010 initiative, alongside Masterpiece Convoy Sleep Mode and the Transformers Animated Optimus Prime / Rodimus two pack.

He goes on to suggest that of the four spaces on the Takara-Tomy Transformers celebration 2010 website, the first is known to be Masterpiece Convoy Sleep mode. The second is the aforementioned Animated two pack. The third he says is this Unicron redeco. The fourth, he speculates, is another Masterpiece - Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime.

Given the central role of Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime in Generation 1 Season 3, released as Transformers 2010 in Japan, this makes sense, and doubly so, given that the Takara-Tomy Transformers 2010 logo prominently features the arm of Hot Rod in the background.

Hmmm... I'll see how this (Unicron) pans out first before I decide to sell my Energon one.

Considering many of us spent about that much just to buy Armada Unicron on retail shelves seven years ago, I don't think it's that big a deal, Hursticon - it's not like you paid inflated prices, and you got an awesome toy. At this point we don't even know if the new head will be better or worse.

And nothing's 'unfair' in toys and war. ;)

Hmmm, if they make MP Rodimus they better make Galvtron too soon after.

The worth of any toy is pretty much a personal thing anyway, some people will pay a premium for a much loved figures others wont, but might for something else. I wont say how much I paid for my Unicron. :p

I recently paid $100 for a MISB Unicron (the Universe-repackaged Armada release) a couple of months ago and thought that the price was quite reasonable due to the size of it (most Leader class toys are around that price).

I'd be interested in seeing what the new one looks like and may be tempted to cop up to $150 for it if it's a significant improvement in appearance.

MP Rodimus sounds very interesting - would this be with trailer integrated i wonder?
Or will it be just the Hot Rod component?

Any version of Unicron is good, it gives others the chance to get him. He's an almost essential character every fan should have, from G1 to modern Universe/Classics era - he's still relevant!

Unless they make that Unicron as big as Fort Max Im not buying. Im content with my Energon "Dark god" Unicron version. Wish he could be bigger though, same goes to Primus.... prolly as big as that Radio headed Prime:D then I can stand em side by side in front of the TF room posing like them Kings in LOTR statues:D:D

Not to mention pink breasted.... The Dark god version makes him more sinister and aptly so since he is the "dark Lord" of the Tf universessss, so he should look "evil":) Just wish they were able to make a more rounded fiugre and not an eggnog biscuit like altmode - you know, round above , flat below:D, but its a small gripe. The toy is awesome enough... except for the kilos of twist ties I had to take it off from for an hour:mad:

I remember TakTom saying 2010 was going to be a huge year for them. We're 5 months in and we're only now hearing some news, though granted it's all speculation at this stage.

I don't care who the next MP is just so long as he isn't shrimpy and overpriced... Yes I mean you Grimmy old pal. I may love you but you're still too expensive considering how small you are in comparison to Prime and Megs.

I agree the scaling is an issue but I think Grimlock's design engineering was worth every dollar. (though i would have liked both arms to light up weapons)

Hopefully its Rodimus Prime with a cool trailer to play with.

It's a repaint with a remoulded head... erm... yeah, I'm gonna wait until I see piccies before deciding, and even then it'd have to be local. If I decide that I want one (cos it'd be nice to have a 2nd Unicron so I can display each in robot and planet modes :D) and Hasbro AU decides not to distribute it, I wouldn't import it.

Meh... I paid $145 for Unicron on the first day he came out -- I remember rushing to David Jones and grabbing him, then rushing to the food court to open him (I couldn't wait!). Any regrets? Hell no. If the repaint/retool devalues my Armada Unicron -- so what? I have no intention of selling this toy, so it makes no lick of difference if the toy goes up or down in value to me. I don't buy toys for investment purposes. ;)

I don't agree. I had a fiddle with gamblor916's MP Grimlock and I found it to be the most simplistically engineered MP toy. It's like half the toy is engineered like an MP, but the other half is like an oversized G1 toy. The scale doesn't bother me, but for that price coupled with price of importing... no thanks.

So... the rumours about MP Rodimus... is it Hot Rodimus or Rodimus Convoy?? Or maybe both -- i.e. the car mode can slot inside a trailer, and the robot mode can slightly transform and have a changeable face to switch between Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime! Oooohhh! :D :)

I would prefer Hot Rod rather than space wagon, but I can see the appeal of a base playset attachment. Let's just hope it's a decent size and price point.

This I can remember too - it was THE TOY long-time fans had been waiting 15 years for. And despite it not having a completely spherical planet form, it did the job in both modes to finally give us a properly converting Unicron toy for Gen1, not just for Armada. (we just had to spend half an hour getting it out of the packaging and twist ties first...)

You make a good point about the "value" of toys, particularly when most collectors on this board are not exactly planning to keep there toys mint and resell them later. While I understand there's some frustration when Hasbro re-release an old toy that was hard to get, or in limited release I wonder if that means people are just buying things because they are limited or rare. If you truly wanted a toy in the first place you shouldn't be to unhappy when it gets re-released or sold cheaper. Hasbro and TakTommy are a businesses there always going to be re-releasing old classics if they think there's money in it, or refining their toys or giving them more G1 paint jobs.

Of course it's all intensely personal what is worth what to who, on the two you mention above I'm of the complete reverse opinion, I wanted MP Grimlock and thought he was totally worth importing so I did, where as Unicrom I thought wasn't worth his $145 price tag, so I waited months till Armada died down and got him for less than half the original price. Now Grimlock has been announced as being releases by Hasbro, hopefully locally for those who didn't import him. Does that bother me? Not really I bought him then and there because I wanted him then and there and thought he looked awesome.

Hah you(we) wish!:D

I wonder what scale he will be too, I now prefer the Gimlock/Seeker scale as those releases have more detail and display better in my mind, however I do admit big MP's like Prime have a certain appeal too.

From TFSource (http://www.tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/1420/)

We have put up a preorder for the upcoming Unicron Reissue from Takara/Tomy. Not much is known about this piece, but it will be an online exclusive, limited edition figure, and is rumored to have a new head sculpt and possibly new colors. We'll update the site more as more information becomes available, pictures for now are for reference only.

Bummer if it is an exclusive, but if it is, I want it somehow.

Having new colors is expected really... but I didn't see this being an online exclusive.

It shouldn't really matter anyway as it would never see retail here in Oz meaning if anyone wanted one, online would be the only way. The only downer would be a limited production run which would jack prices up considerably.
