Hey guys i was looking at buying something from overseas very shortly which would be more than 1000aud and was wandering how the tax works on it does customs hold the item until youve paid the import tax?, how do you know how much it is?, do they send you a invoice with the item?, i wasn't very sure on how its dealt with so i thought someone here might be able to shed some light on the subject.
thanks in advance

They sent me an invoice once, which needed to be paid (by phone I think, or post office), before it would be released.
But I've only ever had the one package held for duty payment though, in all my years of importing toys.
