Which Transformers series did you grow up with during your childhood? Are you:

+ Generation Zero: Grew up in the mid to late 1970s and/or early 80s with precursory Transformer toys like Microman (Micronauts)... maybe even DIA-KLONNN!

+ Generation One: Grew up in the 1980s and early 90s with the original generation of Transformers.

+ Generation Two: Grew up in the early to mid 90s with G2.

+ Generation Beast: Grew up in the mid to late 90s with Beast Wars and Beast Machines.

+ Neo Generation: Grew up in the early to mid 00s with Robots In Disguise and Unicron Trilogy.

+ Protoform Generation: Still growing up with Classics, the live action movie franchise and Animated!

I'm kind of in between in that in the mid to late nineties I was watching the dubs of headmasters through to victory AND also not too long later, watching beast wars

Most of the toys I had were g1 toys (mainly rebirth era toys) and my bro was the one who got a g2 prime and beast wars toys...

Mind you this was in Malaysia...

G1 was released 2 years after i was born.
Then went on to BW. When i first saw BW toys on the shelves i thought that someone was trying to rip off the transformers good name and was quite disgusted. Then i saw the show and was hooked.

Not sure if I am Gen 0 or 1... I was 9 yrs old when Transformers came out in '84 however because I grew up in Oz, I had no knowledge of Microman until the internet

I was born in '86 so technically I'm a G2. I had a few Tfs but only became a real fan with the Beast Era.

Same here except I was born in 88.
While I have mild recollections of G2 stuff and I owned a Rotorstorm from the end of Euro G1, Beast Wars is what I have strongest memories of and what I really grew up with.

Now this was confronting, Ive always considered me self a Gen1 fan , but looking at the listing description... Im Gen 0:p Although I have seen Microman on the toy shelves back in Philippines, its TFs that really got me drooling and always wanting to be left in the toy section while my mom and brother are about the whole department store.:D:D Works out fine for them I guess, keeps the annoying youngster (then:rolleyes:) from getting into trouble and acts like a pacifier by keeping me in that section ( I wouldve stayed all day heheheh) and picking me up AFTER theyre finished with their boring shopping, since there are loose samples displayed which you can fiddle with and dioramas in glass of all the more popular toys at that time... I couldnt buy em and I understood that, we don't have the spare cash so I like fiddling with the samples so I can later make my Craft Paper TF versions a bit more accurate ( well for me heheh) with the detailing I remember from the originals .....ah gone are the days of toy dioramas/spare sample displays in stores..... dag nabbit young ones stealing toys nowadays, cant trust em....:mad:

I'd like to consider myself as Gen 1 since that's what I first remember, BUT I'm probably more Gen 2 as most of my original childhood TFs are from this era. I fully got into transformers properly between the time when the Euro G1s where finishing off and G2 relaunched the line. Although I can remember the last lines of G1 - micromasters, late pretenders and action masters. I only like the micromasters from these and only the G2 figures got me hooked properly

Plus G2 cartoons/comics are what brought me up :p

I miss the $2.50 price for the G2 comics at the local newsagent!

whoa, comics are that expensive here always?!?:p;) Comics back then were 30 pesos full price, less than a dollar ( back in Phils) ... now that price would be when they're getting rid of old stock, and I mean really old stuff hehehe, other wise sale comics prices are 50-60 pesos now which is about $1.10 or $1.20

G2 comics got me in the nostalgic mood when I first saw that Prime face with lotsa bullets, sigh.

I was still in school during both G1 and BW (I was 16 in 1996). Does that still count as growing up?

With G1 I was old enough for be conscious of them in 1986 (season 3) but reruns of Seasons 1-2 were continuously happening and toys back then had a much longer shelf life so I still had several of the 1984-1985 toys still available to me as well as the TV series.

Surely if anyone on this forum had ever grown up, they wouldn't still be here.

(I was seven in 1984, so I'm well and truly Generation 1.)

Generation Beast represent! :D

I say I "grew up" with Beast Wars and remember it with great fondness as one of the BEST shows on TV after school. In reality, I only caught about half of season 1, and owned one beast wars toy, before my family moved to the UK for three years. But I still loved Beast Wars!

One of the most enduring images from the show was the season finale cliffhanger.

yeah.

Optimus Primal, trapped in a stasis pod, exploding in space. Credits roll.
No one ever died in Insektors! That was a pretty terrifying way to go too. I spent the next 10 years wondering if he ever survived, or at least if his death was quick because he really was a swell guy.

The best thing about missing seasons 2 and 3 as a kid? Watching them now as though my favourite 90s show just got new episodes.
I'm half way through season 3, so no more spoilers please!

Like 1AZRAEL1 I was born in '85, albeit 36hrs before 1AZRAEL1 :p so I'd like to say G1 as that apparently was the first cartoon I responded to in my protoform years (1-5) - at least that is what my mother tells me...

But I'd have to also say that I watched G1-G2-Beastwars in succession so would that make a difference?

Was that when they were engraved onto tablets? I was born 2 months into the 80's so I classify myself as Gen1

Although my wife would say that I haven't grown up yet so would be classified as Gen Protoform:p

I grew up around the time BW was on, but it wasn't a part of my childhood at all. Transformers only really came into my life around 2007.

So I picked protoform, because that's the most applicable thing.

Interesting to see that the Beast Wars generation is currently the second most dominant behind G1. I think it comes as little surprise to anyone that most of us here grew up with G1. :) But Beast Wars is my second favourite TF era (although I was a uni student at the time, so I can't say I grew up with it :p) - so I'm glad to see it coming second. :D

Generation 1 for me (although it was late 80s/early 90s reruns and not the original screenings - the 'enhanced' G2 cartoon would not come until a bit later).

I'm an '87 child, so I was able to get into TFs through friends of mine whose brothers had quite a few Transformers, and I got a few of the G1 Classic releases (I think they were a Euro thing around 1990) plus a bit of Gen 1.5 and a bit of G2.

If going by pure number of toys, it would probably have to be G1.5 that is my Generation, so probably G1, but only just...

G1.

I was there when TFs were released on 1984/5 (cos they came to Singapore later). My first experience with TFs (quoted from my blog (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2004/09/menace-of-megatron.html)) is:

"I remember vividly the first time I saw Megatron as a kid. It was evening. Mummy, my brother and I were at OG People’s Park walking through the toys section as usual. We walked by the Transformers section and there being screened on a little TV was an episode of the G1 cartoon episode I would know as Transport to Oblivion years later. It was playing the scene where Megatron and Soundwave (or was it Starscream?) were outside a cave of closed in Autobots; Megatron transformed, Soundwave (or Starscream) held him and blasted the cave roof down to trap the Autobots with finality."

Like many kids back then, I watched G1 and the other 80s 'toons like [insert 80s cartoon names, too many to name]. In 1990, I completely stopped having any contact with Transformers in favour of things like Marvel Comics, basketball, dancing (eek!), hockey, snooker, long distance cycling, roller blading, chalets, clubs, parties and girls (I was still pretty young then, but hey, man's gotta do what a man's gotta do :p).

I effectively didn't see any TFs that came after the Star TV Victory series in 1989 and I guess that's what shapes my collecting habits today.

I tried to get back into the later year TFs with the TF: Armada cartoon. It sucked. I didn't try again, just don't have the time. So, I'm sticking to getting back what I know and love - G1.

Yeah, in 1990-91 we had lots of early G1 toys reissued as part of the Classic series. :) They were a great way to catch up on previously missed figures. The Earthforce Saga was written to market the Classic reissues - which only came out in Europe and Australasia, so events in the US series conflicted with it. Hence it's since been retconned as being an out-of-continuity event. But having said that, Earthforce references still appeared in the later US stories written by Furman (e.g.: during #75's battle against Unicron the Autobots aboard the Ark were members of Earthforce, taking orders from Earthforce Commander Grimlock! :D)

Most of them were (but Blaster wasn't, was he?) They also all happened to be previously dead Transformers reactivated with Nucleon by Grimlock, which is probably why more than half the robots we see on the Ark were characters who were also Action Master toys.

yeah, the poll isn't asking when you were born, but which series you predominantly grew up with during your childhood. Just cast your mind back to Primary School, and whatever TF series you played with -- that's your "TF Generation." =)

I grew up playing with G1, so that's my TF:G. :)

UGH, Sorry I messed up the poll then:o, I should be in Gen 1 then , ooopsy!Born in 73 but Im around year 5 in school (1985) already when TF hit Phils - TV show and toys.....BUt before that I was always watching the great robots series til Pres Marcos banned all the Great robot toons (claiming its too violent for kids) - Voltez V, Danguard Ace, Jig Robot, Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger, Combatra, etc and even the Rangers were canned (Star rangers). There was a few years of robotic toons vacuum, til TF came and I guess that's why it became a hit immediately. I certainly latched to it from the beginning!:D
