Well, I don't really collect them, but I did pick up the Ghostbusters' Ecto-1 Hotwheels (http://www.toycollector.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=173&func=view&catid=83&id=9059) version the other week. It's fantabulous!! :cool:

Ive started collecting hotwheels/matchbox 1:64 cars. i keep an eye out for certain vehicles when shopping for transformers:).
My preferences are that they are mosc, and vw based buggies.
i only have 2 so far. a blue manx buggy, and a red vw baja buggy.

Noticed that Toyworld Greensbrough (Melbourne) had some Hot Wheels from early 2000 and one of the first I saw was a first edition from 1999!

Picked up my first Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt and saw (and picked up) my first Super Treasure Hunt. If I see a T-Hunt I normally leave them for someone else, but this actually looked ok.

Is there any method to the release schedule for Hot Wheels?

In theory, one case per month, but this year there are 15 cases so its a bit faster this year. As a result, New Zealand has skipped a few case asssortments.

I can't seem to find any info.

Been trying to find the same info myself.

There are 15 mixes this year, each given a letter of the alphabet (ie A Mix, B Mix, C Mix etc) and then each case also has two more letters (ie AA, AB, AC), so a case code would be something like AFY or DDV.

In each mix you are going to find at least two of the new cars per mix, maybe a treasure hunt (or super treasure hunt) and the rest of the assortment is made up of any number of random cars from the current year (or in the case of A and B cases, maybe cars from the previous year)

Nothing I can find anywhere that tells me what a case has in it exactly (ie a breakdown of each car in the 72 car case)

Saw that Toyworld had got in a couple of 'P' Cases yesterday but because they hadn't been processed I couldn't raid.
Today I could.

And they even pricematched Kmarts and Warehouse prices, so I got more than I planned to orginally.

The Diecast Model Expo was held last weekend for which I was a volunteer.

A special 1:64 Hot Wheels, - in an Australian firstwas an exclusive Mattel Hot Wheels event model. This brutish muscle car looks fantastic being lime green in colour and flamed detail. On the roof is the official 2011 Diecast Model Expo logo and is a model that is sure to get Australian Hot Wheels collectors anxious to secure theirs, if not Hot Wheels collectors around the world. This model will be available to every registered attendee of the 2011 Diecast Model Expo.

3000 of these cars were made and they are individually numbered.

RRP at the event was $25

However limits applied. If you would like one, check local hobby shops that attended the expo or EBAY. However, prices from hobby shops that attended will be more than $25.

Ok fellas, normal XB Hotwheel Falcons are rare as hens teeth..... (yellow and blue ones) From my knowledge, most of these good ones have been stripped from shops from inside jobs.

I would suggest you go on EBAY. It might cost you $8 including delivery.

There are 2 more variants

1. Hotwheels Garage - red XB. It's specoa; wheels. This one is only from USA. I bought one for $30 recently.

2. Hotwheels 2001 Diecast Model Expo - this one is $35 at the moment. It is based upon the Hotwheels Garage series with a wicked paint job and special wheels. Only 3,000 worldwide. This could be sought after by series overseas HW collectors. The model shop owner that I am good friends with advised me that the convention convenors exported a box of 48 cars to Japan at $28.25 each excluding GST.

I remember Zippo said he was at Hotel Grand Chancellor when the expo was on but passed on this car.

About 95% of that lot came from ebay. Which era of HW packaging are you referring to? Oh & if you're trying to find 2013 stuff, I'd definitely check out stores like Go-Lo, The Reject Shop, Crazy Clark's etc. For some reason, they get tonnes of HW's...

I don't think it's a Hot Wheels. It's a Matchbox. As I a have seen these floating around at Woolies in the toy section. Should be $2.29 if you can find it as its over a year old I think.

I believe it is a white repaint from very late 1990s. I have it somewhere and suprised they would be using the same mold for all these years!!!!:eek:

^ Actually, 4 of those 6 cars came from ebay. About a month ago, I was in an Uncle Pete's & I stumbled across an Enterprise. I decided to leave it & when I checked Uncle Pete's a day later, it was gone. Only then did I decide that I wanted one (& I'm not even a Star Trek fan... lol).

I ended up getting that black XB as part of that ebay lot too - only for me to find 3 of them a few days later at a local Kmart... :rolleyes:

Oh & I've noticed that Big W & Target both have "Flying Customs" at double the price of normal HWs - What the hell?! I have a thing for Z28's so that one came from the US as well. & I just can't resist a kick-ass Group B rally car! :D

I'd never had a close-up look at a Johnny Lightning before but I'm really impressed. The detailed paintjobs on them are superb (driving lights are actually painted on, lettering on the tyres, and unlike HW's & Matchbox - the rear lights are painted & not just slathered in body-colour). Mattel could definitely learn a thing or 2 from the extra details that Johnny Lightning goes to - I'll definitely be picking up another Johnny Lightning or 2 in the future.

The R34's definitely the better of the two; painted lights, rear badge, grill & decal. The GT's prety plain with just the decal.& little highlights like door handles, small hot wheels detail & atripes down the sides

About 10 years ago, I played the hell out of Sega GT 2002 & one of the cars I luved driving from that game was the Toyota 2000GT. Anyway, the years pass by & a couple of weeks ago low & behold Sinnertwin hunts down 2 Toyota 2000GT's (the burgundy one is actually a treasure hunt - & I've never even seen a treasure hunt in a store before... lol). I never even knew that HW's had acquired the licence for this car - Nevertheless I knew I had to track one down. So last Sunday I checked out my local Kmart/Big W/Target/Supermarkets = None of them had one. Being that I'm currently on holidays, I thought I'd check out my nearest TRU. They actually had one! :O & I took home a stock-car as well.

Finding THUNTs are the luck of the draw.

Prior to 2013 releases, the cars had a green stripe which denoted THUNTs. However Super THUNTs had real rider wheels and special paint jobs. You had to search for them.

THUNTS are limited to one per box.

Good luck finding them. Scores of people go hunting HW cars.

More often than not, THunts are packed one per box, i have however seen boxes with two regulars, one regular & a super & sometimes none. I recall a day when one of my friends from Target received 14 boxes one day & only managed to find one regular and one super.

^ The only Aussie Ford muscle car ever released by HW (that I can recall) has been the XB coupe. We may eventually see the Phase I/II/III/IV (as well as some of Holden's & Valiant's classic designs) sometime down the track but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well here today, I didn't realize how "cheap" these cars are nowadays, prolly coz I didn't really gave it any attention until I had to buy some for a friend.

But the new colors/variants of HotWheels - I saw them at the Reject Shop. Saw a red Nissan GT-R, and most others in all new variant colors. So you might want to check that shop.

According to the wiki...:D:p HW has eliminated the logo on the packaging itself so you just have to look for the flame logo on the vehicle itself... I guess they really want to make the "hunt" more exciting so it'd feel like a real "treasure" if you found one.

This is a result of the lack of TFs on offer Sinnertwin heheheh. :p. Funny that I'm back to collecting to the first type of toys I've collected and played with when I was a wee lad - but I had mostly Matchbox then. :p:D
