View Full Version : More G1 Seacons?

As reported on TFW (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/mystery-g1-seacons-surface-169845/), the G1 Seacons (well 5 of them anyway) have surfaced again leading to speculation that they may be released as part of Takara's Encore line, or a US store exclusive, or even a convention exclusive with Botcon and Comic Con around the corner.

Having no interest in these toys whatsoever, if I had bought the Transformers Collectors' Club exclusives back in 2008, I would be pretty ticked. I guess this is all too familiar with MP Grimlock (now a TRU exclusive) and Generations Thrust around the corner.

This is very good news for people who don't have a set.

There would be no justifiable reason to be, though. All Collectors Club exclusives are normally released toys in special colours. These appear to be normally released toys in normal colours. (Except Gay Pride/Breast Cancer Prevention Overkill. Who is awesome.) Being pissed off at this would be like buying Botcon Glyph and then being mad that they keep rereleasing G1 Bumblebee in G1 colours. And to be mad at that would be retarded.

If this is the next Encore/equivalent, it's a great move as long as they fix up the problems with the bits that didn't fit together on the previous use of the moulds.

I think that some people bought the clowncons because they felt they were the only choice - They would have preferred them in the original colors but that option wasn't available at the time aside from buying the expensive G1 originals.

If it does get released again - in original colors no less, that would be awesome. I already have completed these guys but its always a welcome thing to have those expensive Seacons shot down a peg or two in price. Also erm Snaptrap isn't among them so if they skip out on him they wouldnt be able to combine to Piranahcon....well all is speculation for now anyways

Could get messy for G1 collectors to identify them from the originals:rolleyes:

Which is exactly the point I was trying to make.

For example, I bought Universe Ruination thinking that this would be the last chance to own the Combaticons (because I had heard that apparently the mold had degraded beyond reuse). Then of course, Bruticus came out in the Encore line and I was unable to justify buying another set of the same mold.

But it is good for those, like myself, who could never dream of being able to afford such an expensive G1 figure. I am close, but still so far away from completing mine, and the ones I need are too damn expensive for me to buy. Plus the sword, a fist, and everything else I am missing from mine are too expensive on their own.

I can't see how people can get upset with it though, I mean, look at all the other repaints that have come out. The seekers are pretty much the same, yet I bought them all. If I was interested in buying other lines, I'm sure I would buy all the different Bruticus' out there.

To me, comparing Ruination and Bruticus to TakTom Grimlock and Hasbro Grimlock is like apples and oranges. Sure Ruination and Bruticus are the same mold, but they are essentially 2 different characters. In Grimlocks case, Hasbro's is just a cheaper alternative to TakTom's and comes with different stuff. JMO.

Not a financially viable option for some; myself included.

In the absence of a reissue / encore toy, I normally go after a repaint if available. I don't look at them as being separate characters e.g. Ruination / Bruticus (however we all know they are), but the same mold.

Myself included as well, but if I was determined to have all the seekers. Was a matter of patience with them though. If only I was more patient, I would have waited for Generations Thrust. But that's life I suppose.

The only time anyone has a right to be pissed off about this sort of situation is if they have bought an explicitly limited-number exclusive toy, and then HasTakTom releases the exact same toy in the same colours. Anything else is fair game, and it's ridiculous to not expect that Tomy will continue to make use of whatever moulds it has. As of now, a Seacon rerelease hasn't even been confirmed yet. And until someone actually does have a cry about buying OTFCC Piranacon this is just hearsay. But if someone does, they're being a twat.

Great news (if it's true) for those who want a the G1 Seacons!

I'm still happy with my TFCC Seacons, I'm not worried about the colours of them, at least they are unique versions of the mold. Plus they make great Shattered Universe Seacons (ignoring the purple insignias of course) :p

Everyone has the right to be 'pissed off' at anything they want whether they are deemed a 'twat' by someone else or not. To suggest otherwise is just plain ignorant and considering that Kup and I seem to share the same opinion on this topic (even though it might not be our own way of thinking) validates what I was saying.

Sure, Tomy will continue to make use of whatever moulds it has, and why wouldn't they. They're running a business. Is everyone going to be happy about it; probably not.

The Clowncons as Shattered Glass Seacons do work. Nice one! :)

start buying loose, complete Snap Traps and then make a killing when the other 5 are released.

This statement is fair enough.

This one isn't. It's ignorant to assume that any release of a mould will be its last, and buying a mould because one thinks it's going to be the last chance demonstrates a complete ignorance of the past decade of Transformers.

I own the TFCC Clown-cons and have no problem with a G1 reissue. In fact I demand it! I WANT ONE!

I don't want to contradict anyone but since my name has been brought up as sharing an opinion which I actually do not, I wish to clarify:

I don't personally think that the Clowncons are a good economic alternative for G1 Seacons. I actually hate the repaint (Why I nicknamed them Clowncons) and didn't get the set for that very reason despite myself not owning a G1 set back then when the exclusive came out.

My post acknowledges the reason why people went out and bought the Club Exclusive set but does not mean that I share it.

I don't think it's a case of being ignorant to assume that any release of a mould will be its last but rather 'playing it safe' because moulds do have a lifecycle which comes to an end.

Some that do play it safe get it wrong on occasion. It's a risk we all take when collecting - do you hold off buying a particular toy and run the risk of paying inflated prices on the second-hand market, or do you buy what's available now and hopefully be satisfied with what you have.

I see the point you are making and while I don't necessarily agree, this doesn't make your point in any way invalid because it's what you believe and who am I to tell you you're wrong :)

I believe that you're referring to my comment Kup. Sorry if I took yours out of context. I was trying to be careful by adding "even though it might not be our own way of thinking" just in case.

As of now, a Seacon rerelease hasn't even been confirmed yet.

I'm not entirely convinced that Hasbro WOULD release a large and expensive g1 combiner set like this anyway. They tried to shop around the seacons several years ago and there were no takers. I think its far more likely to be a Takara release, since they didn't get access to the reissue like US transfans.

I've bought the seacons reissue, but honestly nothing would make me happier to see a G1 coloured reissue.

Now if they were to add the extra seacon (can never remember his name) that would be the cherry on top.

I gotta agree with Sky Shadow. I bought Gentei Thrust thinking it would be the only way for me to get a "Classics" Thrust. Now we have Generations Thrust which is cheaper and in some ways, better looking. Am I miffed about it? Not really. It's great news for people who missed out on BotCon and Gentei Thrust - both of which were limited exclusives.

I would absolutely pounce on an Encore King Poseidon reissue... while I have all the G1 Seacons, I'm missing most of Piranacon's gestalt parts. And buying a reissue is just easier and cheaper than chasing down the originals! It was the main reason that I bought Encore Bruticus (that and I wanted to support/encourage TakaraTOMY to reissue more gestalts). :)

Nautilator. :) He's my favourite of the Seacons (and not just because he and Skalor were my first! :p)

In this case, the missing Seacon is actually Snaptrap. And it would be very strange for them to reissue the others without him.

Unless there's a backstory of them tired of him and left their "leader"...... mutiny!!:D:p Im hoping they do reissue this! Im still hoping for a Liokaizer reissue or a US mass release,:o

Excellent! I'd be happy to get these guys. G1 gets way too expensive is you want all the parts. I hope Overbite ends up in more accurate colours though.

And I have absolutely zero doubt that Snaptrap will be released. We know they have the mould.
