To air next year. Has a teaser poster for it, quite like the artwork for it.
I was not much of a fan, but I'd be keen to watch it.

I'd be keen to watch this. Although I never collected any of the toys, I consider myself a fan.
I think the original series came out in '86 which by that point, I was 11 yrs of age... a little late to get into the toys without my parents thinking there was somthing wrong with me.
If I had the money and the inclination to collect another toy line, Thundercats would be it.

I will be watching this. I also look forward to see who gets the toy license. If this is a 2011 series then I wouldn't be suprised to see the first few figures at SDCC.
I am hoping it is Mattel who has the license

Oh my god, this is the best news I've heard all week!
Plus there's a strong chance they'll do a toyline too. I want another Lion-O figure to replace mine which has lost his sword and is all sticky-melted plastic thanks to our weather.

Excellent. So much about Thundercats never quite lived up to its potential. I hope a new series will take all those great aspects of the Thundercat mythos that one step beyond.

I knew about the talked-about CG movie, but this is news to me. Thundercats was one of my childhood favourites (even though I never had any of the toys), so I'll be paying close attention to this one.
I find that I'm already wondering about the music - Bernard Hoffer's original score is magnificent.

So they'll be engineered just enough so that they both have at least one point of play value and make you feel distinctly ripped off.

are they 3 3/4" sized figures?
Robzy
29th January 2011, 09:22 PM
More info...
Bandai will be releasing figures in 3 different scales, (4", 6", 8") plus a 8" Classics line which will start off with a Classic version of Lion-O. The articulation for these figures feature ball hips, shoulders and head as well as hinge joints on the elbows and knees. On display was 4" figures of Tigra, Lion O, Cheetara and Panthro. Slithe though not present was listed on the year planner.
Dark Horse also gives us some details on the Thundertank vehicle which is being made for the 4" scale figures. He describes the Thundertank as having a neat design though somewhat small looking. The claws lift up and there's removable bikes underneath. The 4" figures will contain a magnet action feature that activates features on the vehicles and playsets. He also says that Snarf will be a pack-in with the Thundertank.
Interesting about the 3 (maybe 4) different size scales, as well as Snarf as a pack-in.

You may get a Thundercats/Machine Robo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCIx9iiQjMA) Crossover, but you won't get Gobots crossover cos good ol' Hasbro owns the rights for Go-Bots. They would've acquired the rights when they took over Tonka in 1991, hence why Transformers has been using Gobot names/characters/likenesses since 1993.

Snarf is your typical sidekick character, like a combination of Orko, Cringer and Wheelie. and that wierd thing from Jettsons.
I was never that big a Thundercats fan, not quite sure why, something about the show didn't work for me, always prefered the Silverhawks myself.
Not sure about this new series or toys, though that Thunder Tank does look nice, but I don't trust modern toy companies making vehicles they always make them to simple with lame sound gimmicks.

I have just watched this. First two episodes were released yesterday.
I went in with a neutral mindset just to see if it was any good. Although the 'anime' animation felt a bit odd at first (specially with Snarf, Kit and Kat), the story was incredibly good. It was certainly much much better than I would have imagined it to be.
The animation in general was pretty good with the exception of the character models I mentioned and the story wasn't just uninspired cliche 'meh' like it is with TF:Prime. It was actually pretty damn good with a lot of character depth and some bold but positive changes to the Thundercats lore.
What I liked:
- The whole 'classical age' inspired world in which technology is but a myth.
- Thunderans are not just 'good cat people' but were also arrogant and imperialistic oppressing or intimidating other races in 3rd Earth.
- Thunderan society is portrayed as very human with both the bad and good.
- Well thought out story line that establishes the premise of the series very well.
- Writers are putting some seeds, they appear willing to do some world building in their writing unlike in TF Prime.
- The Lizards are not just a typical cartoon 'evil race'. They have some gray areas with hints that some may even be good or at least have good conscience.
- Previously 'plain' characters have been totally re-written such as Tigra.
- Awesome animation with the mechs.
- Snarf doesn't talk!
- I can go on.
What I didn't like:
- Cutesy character animation such as Wily-Kity and Wily-Kat.
- Don't care much about Snarf's cutesy design either but I am so glad he doesn't talk and is just a pet.
- Weird anime moments like when Jaga and his clerics were running like the flash.
- Mum-Ra was a little too odd. Not really scary, just funny looking.
The positives considerably outweigh the negatives and I really enjoyed this show. I can't wait to watch the next episode - When is it out?

Justv watched ep 4 yesterday. I quite enjoyed it. There are some fairly mature themes coming up here.
I was even a little moved by the plant dude in ep 4.:o
I think I could continue watching this, but yeh, definitely need to see a bit more on the bad guys, especially considering how they all look fairly similar, compared to the cats which are all very distinct from one another. toy wise, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a really small amount of bad guys (Mumm-Ra, tooth guy and a couple of lizards which look the same).
Be cool to see some awesome mechs for the cats later on as well :D

It's a little early for me to conclusively judge but yeah it isn't as good as TMNT 2002. However it may be on par with He-Man 2002 as that show also had it's odd episodes like the last Thundercat one which was a little odd.

Just watched Ep 5 last night. Found it to be a bit weaker than the last episode which I really enjoyed, but hey they all can't be totally awesome philosophical epics can they?:p
Wasn't bad, although I find it irritating that Lion-O is wanting to be a leader and order others around, even when he makes stupid decisions. I thought he would have learnt that in episode 3...
Is Panthro the same voice guy as Prime's Bulkhead?
Will probably keep watching because I am not really watching anything else episodic at the moment. And I like cats.

I thought ep 5 was awesome!! some action finally! Nah isn't the old series about Lion-o learning and growing up to be king? I'm guessing this is the same. He is still young and is going to make bad decisions and im guessing as the series goes on he'll become wiser and grow and make better decisions.
its not like he wanted to be king it was thrown at him after his dad passed away.
Previews for episode 6 is up and it looks good too! IMO i think this series is fantastic can't get enough of it, can't say the same for TF:prime :p

@ Tet's: from the sound of it , yes I think it's the same voice actor.... the guy who does the voice of the Shark bounty hunter in Lilo and Stitch heheehhe:D. Whenever I hear that voice I can't help but smile even though he is portraying a whole different character, I just can't help but see past that Shark guy. Same when I hear Kree summers voice - she does Number 5 in Kids Next Door and Foxxy Love on Drawn together - the voice isn't so versatile (sounds the same no matter what character you slap it on), so easily identifiable, yet so in demand.:D:D

Cheers, The flashbacks in the Mumm-Ra episode were interesting...
Have been watching a bit of the original thunderctas as I never watched it before. I thought I was growing out of cartoons at the time it was out, but it was made in 1985 apparently.
So, I am about 6 episodes in, and now I see why I never watched it. I must have seen an episode or two and thought the show was crap, because it's awful! Odd though, as I liked the design of the figures enough to have owned a MUmm-Ra somewhere along the lines (I think I still have his awesome sword around somewhere).
I keep watchign thinking, maybe it will get better, but it doesn't. lol. Sorry, I've tried... I still like the design of the classic characters (and bought the 8inch Lion-o!) but I can't handle anymore of Lion-o raoming around the planet until one of his friends gets in trouble, then he uses the sword to d=find them and blah blah blah...
Might just stick with the new show for watching and play with the classic figures!:D

A couple of years ago I watched the whole thing. It was more of an endurance test than anything else. Although the characters and world are awesome, the episode to episode stories are horrible, specially those by this guy called William Overgard. He introduces all these wacky characters and has no concept of the vaguest sense realism (even by 80s cartoon standards) so nothing makes any sense whatsoever like a trippy dream.
There are however several good episodes and 'Lion-O's test' miniseries is pretty good (although often shown in disorder with crap episodes in between). However the good episodes are no where near enough to balance out the bad ones.
It's certainly a series where it's best to watch the odd episode rather than the whole thing or you will kill brain cells.

hmmm so prolly the Silverhawks and Tigersharks will indeed be humanoid animals then in this new TC universe, instead of the (if you really think deep and hard about it)creepy , macabre, freaky origin they were presented in the first version. That would be acceptable for me.
That would be better than the original versions from the 80s. I mean basically Tigersharks are mutations - I dunno about you but if something went awry in the mutating pool theyve got they may end up looking like Injector and being stuck in it - I think they had an episode of being stuck i fishmode- it would be quite disastrous. ... and Ben 10 is again following this Mutation trend- albeit it's different - temporary genetic manipulation... it's all fun and games until your stuck in UGLY,freak mode.:p.. think The Fly..eew
As for the Silverhawks - I would not for the life of me trade my flesh and blood to become something like Robocop - I mean that's just ... inhuman ( robocop I view as well - inhuman) would you like to have your head mounted on a robotic body sans nuts and all the good bits;):p... seriously they have - copper kid- it's a kid he has a whole life ahead of him and they mutilated the child!!! Someone should've censored these toons way back. It would've been more better if it was armor, heck no it's your body now you eunuch! SO after Monstaarrs defeat, what then... you cant go back to what you were...

I loved the last episode, this series gets better and better. I like origin stories and this sort of sets up the background but I wish they could have stretched it to 2 episodes at least. They could have gone more in depth into the forging of the sword too but it’s like ok here’s some random smith and now here’s your sword. Don’t worry about the hole, the square stone will fit just fine.

I know in the future world the Sliverhawks come from they clone the team new bodys after they win the battle with Monstar :D Copper kid was not human so they dont really care about him. They just leave him to rot back at base when they leave.:D

I loved the last episode, this series gets better and better. I like origin stories and this sort of sets up the background but I wish they could have stretched it to 2 episodes at least. They could have gone more in depth into the forging of the sword too but it’s like ok here’s some random smith and now here’s your sword. Don’t worry about the hole, the square stone will fit just fine.
well stretching it could have ruined the story - the writing for this show is on a fine line of greatness/mediocrity.
so he was a nameless smith that was smuggled into a hidden area - its not like they used him to make more weapons - they just needed someting to defeat mumm-ra. though they could have explained where they got the same metal as mumm-ra's weapon. just chuck the smithy a name like masamune.
the stones if you recall changed shapes/sizes - basically whatever was best for the wielder. its a magical stone of red lazer beams and lightning summoning... there's not much feasability there.

Really enjoyed ep8. I wanted a story about swords and they dedicate a whole episode to it!

I watch until epi7, and felt that the makers must really like Starwars :D

Just watched episode 8, the Drifter and the Duelist. I really enjoyed it! I quite liked the character of the Drifter, especially the way he would float around and get stuck on things, really adds to his drifter theme. It kind of adds to the 'magic' of the world in the character development for him
*Spoilers*
In that he had the ability to stabilise himself once he regained his purpose and was no longer floating on the wind*end of spoiler*
A nice low-key episode showing that not all episodes have to be about action and excietment. You can also see the little lessons that Lion-O is learning to make him a better leader.
Yep, enjoying the series quite a bit.

I think it was episode 10 that I just finished. Magi forest or something. Looks like the writers may have been playing Okami, with the paper magic theme in this one, which I really liked. Wasn't a bad ep either, with an interesting morale.
So as for good guys we have Liono Tygra, Panthro, Wilykat/kat, Cheetara and Snarf. Any more regular goodies? Also interesting to note that they have managed to avoid using Mumm-Ra and his underlings for a pretty big batch of episodes now. Hopefully when he shows up again he will kick all sorts of bottom!

i just don't think the new Lionle has the same effect. His a bit non leader material and doesn't have that strong presence, well for the episode i saw (pirate ship, desert) Also i though the chick was hit and miss. i have not caught the episodes on tv after that. dunno where it went.

try viewing it at www.animeflavor.com they have alternate video sources as well if one of the video links don't work. Which is good coz some of the viideo links either freeze up in the middle or just wouldn't play so at least I get the options and don't miss out on the episodes. He gets a bit better in the leadership thing later on... only a bit ;P They're well away from what is being shown in TV episodes wise but oon hiatus at the moment - cliffhanger end of season episode with a twist - didnt see that coming kinda thing ;). It gets better...
Ive finished all the season episodes there as well of Green Lantern, Ben 10, Generator Rex, Avatar: Legend of Korra and most importantly TF Prime.:D

I stopped watching this with about 3 episodes to go. I just lost interest.

I think the show went a bit too all Anime trippy instead of proper Thundercats. There were a lot of great ideas in there but not enough action and a lot of surrealism. Eventually I got bored and it seems that so did the audience.
